And just think they didn’t like the final product after all the production, and the record executives said are you effin kidding me? This is a hit, and they were right.

My mother-in-law used to have a cabin up on a hill in the Catskills one night my husband I was sitting outside in lounge chairs drinking all diet Pepsi's and all of a sudden we heard Michael McDonald's voice coming over the valley it turned out they were playing down in the town but listening point was so spectacular and every Saturday we went there and heard somebody great but I will always remember Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers
I think everyone on earth knew this great memorable Michael McDonald number would be a instant huge chart busting hit when it came out. For me it was my favorite of his hits with the Doobies and the one that most defines and underlines his fabulous unique and impossible to copy - voice. Amazing how his voice held up over the years....Thanks for the great music, Michael!

This song is hard to END in a compositional perspective, the music characteristically can just go on and on forever. Its either you fade it out or end it in a Cheesy way like they always do on Live performances.

Me too! Mum told me that about 37 years ago I always loved this song while being in the car as a 3-4 yr old.. Now, at 41, only just properly 'discovered' this song again, realising how amazing this musical masterpiece really is with its sad lyrics but happy feel good tune..
