Great job guys! This was an important video to make - to show the importance of checking traps daily. I am glad you stressed that point so much, Andrew. After all, trapping isn't about torturing the animal. It actually brought a tear to my eye, not because the deer had been trapped, but because you guys cared enough to do what's right and release it with as little harm to it as possible. A lot of people would have seen it as an opportunity to fill the freezer. Deer can die very easily from stress and often do when they are handled by humans. It's called Capture Myopathy and one of the ways to help prevent the animal dying is to be as quiet as possible and as quick as possible in their release once you approach it (and cover its eyes if possible). You guys did everything right and it has got to feel so good to know that such a freak, unintentional occurrence ended well. Well done boys! Heather🇨🇦

It's called an accident. And that is really awesome how y'all were able to release her. One of my geese got wrapped around one of my duck decoys trotline. She was scared till I picked her up and put her in the boat then she calmed way down and let me work to free her.

My grandpa actually jump on to a dear from a river bank died from a heart attack(he was hunting an spot at the deer swimming across the river) so it is totally possible to do it so it’s amazing to see some calming a deer and getting it free. At the beginning I had my volume all the way up and the SHEEWW was so loud and my parents were like what the h$ll and they searched through my hole phone🤣🤣😭😭
A lot of the newer traps have that feature. We used to have to modify them to do that with a file. Duke is one of the brands that I know makes them. It's called night latching so you can set them in the dark basically.
Cover your traps with cattails. The ones growing around ponds and in ditches. just break them up they our light and fluffy . A old friend of mine was a trapper in the Yukon where I grew up. He did this for lynx and wolves over top of leg hold traps. And it will not freeze over top of the trap the say light and fluffy.
In the spring time, you should have a nice dock built on your pond and you should get a nice outdoor fish cleaning station built on the dock. So that way you can clean fish that you catch at ur pool or anywhere else. Love the vids. Keep up the good work.
lmao. The deer went unconscious. It was pulling and tightening the cord around its neck and cut the circulation off. that's why I didn't get up and run right away. kind of the same way in MMA.
man i use to run 175 snares on my coyote line, caught 109 coyotes one winter here in ND. I have snared alot of deer and let them go it happens alot more then you think man,, i use to put a coat over there head then they always stay calm to let them go. you just wait till you get a big buck lol also use s hook snares then they can break away easier.
You need to use a jump stick to prevent them from nocking your cable down or catching them. Just a stick above your loop, a coyote snare should be 10x10 so a deer would rather jump it then duck. Also they make break aways for the cable, that way if anything bigger than a yote gets in there they can pull out of the cable.Tight chains!
