Nice Poplar. You made it look so easy well done. I am about to start my 3rd one. The first wouldnt come back up the second snapped and the 3rd one will be using your method. Well done sir and greetings from New Zealand🙂
Thank you so much. Let me know if it works out. I wonder if the reason your first one didn't come back up was because the string wasn't wrapped tight enough around the dowel. Also, the distance between the 2 halves should be pretty close together to make it come back up easier.
Nice result. A couple items that you might consider - on your bandsaw, lower the blade guide (for safety) and adjust the guides (quite a bit of deflection in that blade as you put pressure on it when cutting), AND also when rounding over the edge of the blank try using the gouge to make a bead (turn from outside edge to inside) instead of scraping (cut “downhill” across the fibers). Keep on having fun!
I haven't made a yo-yo yet , but when I was a kid playing with one the string would slip apon the center spindle , and when watching I thought, someone could drill the dowel before gluing it in , then thread the string after
Have you tried making one of a single, thick piece of wood? Haven't tried it myself but can't imagine why using a parting tool for the middle wouldn't work.
That's how I used to make them, but I found that it took longer because I had to make a tenon, and I couldn't sand one side until it came off the lathe. But it's a suitable method if you don't have any thin boards.
I usually use a piece of wood 3 inches wide and .75 inches thick. I have made them in many dimensions, and as long as it’s symmetrical, it should work.

Nice polar, and I have never seen that method to make them before.
Mükemmel bir insansınız ve çok değerli eğimcisiniz çok teşekkür ediyorum.
Nice poplar. Not nearly as green as I typically see it. Well done! Might try this tonight!
Thanks for watching. It was unusually dark. Let me know how it goes if you try it out.

Excellent work and I like this method compared to what I've from before. Thanks for sharing 👌
Thank you, I find that this is the quickest method to make them, and with the least amount of wasted wood.
I like that
Nice poplar

❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Very good

Nice Poplar! I'm wanting to start making these, myself. What are the critical dimensions for a successful yoyo?

an accident waiting to happen !!!
It what aspect?? Not much to go wrong with a simple project like this.
