we need a video of the truck like the 3-6-12 fairmont street drive one. would watch the shit outta that ! keep up the great work Matt and thanks once again
Hi Matt. im really enjoying following you down the 4.8 rabbit hole, looking for uncle Rodney! (haha) Ive watched alot of your videos, but I dont recall seeing anything much about what type of oil do you use, your thoughts on oil, and how low can you go b4 problems, and what is good pressure and temps etc? a rambletron would be great. Thanks for your generous sharing of information.
knock might be a head gasket just starting let some coolant into a cylinder check the plugs water in a cylinder could cause detention....... could be wrong just some arm chair diag lol
great video matt! I posted about turbo blankets a little while ago. after some reading it seems that it will help spool sooner making boost earlier in the RPM range but wont make more power. So if someone has spooling issues that could help.
correct, also will help with underhood temps if they are a problem, not really helpful with a log manifold like this IMO as it doesnt have alot of heat loss
I love the new format of showing us what your actually doing any why, Damn those injectors are bad ass. You don’t cover any thing up you just show the raw truth, if you fuck up and blow the motor you will accept it instead of blaming the motor. This is More than just showing what an LS can do, I’m sure with any engine you could make amazing numbers as you are biased towards bull shit like “needing” Arp studs forged pitons yada yada, it’s so exciting to see that power doesn’t break engines, when some thing goes wrong it breaks ( detonation from running out of fuel etc) and I get to watch and learn from your journey. You may have not invented the term “ Fucking send it” But you live it. I’m keen to see what happens next, ild like to see you exceed the physical strength of the engine (:
I seen an article the other day about high up lock up convertes, out was pretty cool it was about how they are trying to get them allowed back in nmra bc they were banned back in the 90s and they handled all the way up to like 5khp
There`s a great cheap and easy method to tell if you really have a knock. You need cheap ass ear muffs, some hose and Y-fitting. Make a ghetto stethoscope of that parts, run a hose thru the firewall and put the end on any stud on the engine. Such contraption lets you hear every bit of knocking even in loudest cars.
I really appreciate the format of this video Matt. Well done. If I were to request anything, it would be nice to see RPM instead of MPH on the dyno chart. In any case, thank you for doing what you do.
Sometimes this isnt possible, it depends if the inductive pickup is able to read through a plug wire or not. Usually when it shows MPH, it means it wasnt picked up. Since Matt runs stock shit though I bet it does pick it up lol
From tuning some gm vehicles myself. I have run into random knock before which can sometimes be the torque spark management. But I'm not sure if your pcm has that.
looks knock sensor might be shorting. could have water in the chamber that holds the sensor. they rust out all the time maybe take an air wond and blow it out
Its hard to know if its real knock or sensor being sensitive and picking up engine noise.. See TPIC8101 Knock Sensor Interface (Rev. C) - Texas Instruments. My link g1 ecu manual has a rising threshold vs rpm for knock control
I’m in the process of my first turbo LS build and will have exactly this setup except for an LJMS turbo 4.8 stage 2 cam and two of the AEM external fuel pumps. If I took this tune from your cabinet it would have to be a rather good starting point right?
Sloppy Mechanics would’ve been cool to see if the 1218s would’ve worked at the boost level I already have 1218s while being N/A but I’m gonna do the VS billet 80 soon
Matt, have you ever considered installing back pressure sensors? I know you're not pushing crazy boost, but it would be interesting to compare exhaust manifold pressure against intake pressure & see how well the turbo is flowing. I know once you get higher boost levels, you can get exhaust reversion, & that can cause knock, regardless of fuel.
Sloppy Mechanics i welded a -4an fitting into a drilled 02 plug i had. I just swap it out for a pre turbo 02 sensor and i have it hooked to a old mechanical fuel pressure gauge just zip tied or hanging in the car thru the window. Actually works mint just to check quickly to see if its crazy or ok, and it will go into any car.
Matt, I recently purchased an 07 suburban with alum 5.3. Did dod delete, ls6 springs, btr stage 1 truck cam. Has a lot of valvetrain noise. You ever have get a lot of valvetrain noise? Know a good fix for it? Thicker oil maybe??
How long is that hurt white silverado gonna sit up there? I kinda wish that intake injector mod woulda worked. Kinda gave me hope for an easy/cheap way to add fuel to these new DI motors.
Would it be possible to normalize the audio levels? I find myself having to turn it up and down a lot. On a different note, the truck sounds freaking awesome!
Yep I actually do a little the audio is all over the place It’s hard to balance haha I’ll just make all the car stuff way quieter next time thanks for the input
Lean spots and o2 sensor adding and subtracting fuel too quickly if I turn off o2 sensors it goes away still trying to make them work with this setup and I have only a few flashes into this entire tuneup
Looking to boost my 4.8. But don't know whether to get a 76mm turbo or an 83mm turbo. Eventually plan on swapping in a 6.0. Don't really know if the 83mm would be too big of a turbo for the 4.8 tho. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Fixing to order the sloppy stage 2 camshaft notice that one has computer controlled capable and the other is not does this matter don’t want to order the wrong one
Matt, did you figure out a ballpark of what the single pump and 210s were worth? I think you said you had enough fuel for 17psi, so that should be around 570??
How much fuel pressure do you run because you have some crazy injectors for such little hp , although the gen 3 are predicable don’t push over 28 psi they go pop pop BOOMM
Well it’s explained in Early videos as they’re 370$ and the last ones you’ll ever need and they work great, if you buy 1000$ middle of the road injectors then need another set that’s not very cost effective, meanwhile this is and it’s funny to laugh at 40% idc at 60% alc at 650whp
Sloppy Mechanics thank I had seen one of your videos for the injectors and fuel pressure and you have around 58 psi and are running that constant but with the research and prior knowledge what don’t you run a nice set of 160s and higher fuel pressure around 80 with a nice set of eBay rails and regulator
Someone sent me double-sided tape I’m waiting for it to come in to my PO Box otherwise I think I’m going to put it where the airbag cover is cause I have no airbags
hey man sorry about that , that comment was supposed to go to another video (Crypto Daily today's video). Turn down your volume if you watch that. Not sure why my comment ended up on here. But the dyno pulls were screamin' nonetheless. lol Maybe you should have the injectors flow tested for the possibility of one leaning out on you, causing some random pings
Sloppy Mechanics So you're tuning in closed loop? Or putting it back in closed loop for pulls? I thought with the older ecm's you could only tune and run open loop because the maf was too slow to respond? Maybe I've listened to too many forum know-it-alls but I've heard so many different things that learning how to tune has been kicking my ass
Giving Hot Rodding back to the people ! Braking it down so us slow guys can understand . Thanks bruh
Uncle Rodney is in Mexico right now, but he'll be back around the 800 range.
lmao
"Uncle Rodney" fuck i lost it at that point.
25psi. goddamn that 78 is a beast on this motor.
the intro is too nice for the boost controller mount
I love the boost controler jammed in the dash hole!!! Epic
Love the constant updates and information!!
me too
This is all sorts of awesome. Thanks for taking us along on the journey. Here’s hoping that Uncle Rodney spends an extra few weeks in Mexico....
thanks heaps for showing the logs, I learn so much more from seeing hptuner logs than just a dyno graph!
we need a video of the truck like the 3-6-12 fairmont street drive one. would watch the shit outta that ! keep up the great work Matt and thanks once again
What a great pull, oncoming traffic must be looking at you like WTF!! Those dyno runs sound badass!!
These intros put me in stitches 😂 great shit as always
650 whp is no joke. Great video Matt.
LOL.. Uncle Rodney comes to visit.. Nice..
i dont always brake my ls, but when i do, i send the rod through the fucking block
I don't care what I'm watching. When I get a notification from sloppy I always watch it
This increased my edit time by approximately 17 minutes.
Home Depot Industrial strength Velcro :)
My dume ass just now noticed the turn signal lights are above the head lights...lol
I'd call that a success, no visit from Mr. Rodman... Keep up the good work my friend.
The little 4.8 that could, is still chooching! My guess is Converter man, time to put the other one back in.
This music. Making me feel like I haz emotion
Don't ever change.
:01
I’ll have you know I just sat thru a ford commercial 😂
fuckn unkle rodney
How many times (if any) have you needed a tow home from the dyno?
Haha surprisingly not that many for how many times I have pushed it! But a few a year
Killed on the intro...
Lol, Uncle Rodney killed me...
That ASMR though...tingles galore.
Moonlight as an ASMR channel.
love the correction factor :) :)
Is it bad I was hoping it was gunna blow up what a show .:)nice job Matt

Whatever is cheapest at autozone when I go
knock might be a head gasket just starting let some coolant into a cylinder check the plugs water in a cylinder could cause detention.......
could be wrong just some arm chair diag lol
controlled water in all cylinders prevents detonation
Ellenor Malik leaking from a head gasket wouldnt be very controlled
LOL I need to fix the decel in my truck too it maxes out the wideband as well. What numbers do you usually shoot for? Like 17:1 ish?
great video matt! I posted about turbo blankets a little while ago. after some reading it seems that it will help spool sooner making boost earlier in the RPM range but wont make more power. So if someone has spooling issues that could help.

As you are not biased*
Killer Correction Factor on that dyno graph!
You like that it’s custom
Uncle Rodney, hahahahhaa lolololololollol. That shit made my day!
Thanks for all the explanation. Are there any reasonably priced options out there for the converter limitation?
Ehhh not at this HP level 900+
I seen an article the other day about high up lock up convertes, out was pretty cool it was about how they are trying to get them allowed back in nmra bc they were banned back in the 90s and they handled all the way up to like 5khp
Uncle Rodney... LOL
That truck sounds so fricken GOOD!!!!
yep sounds lively eh
Yea Buddy!!!!:)

Yes detcans
Sick! I gotta do an LS build someday
I really appreciate the format of this video Matt. Well done. If I were to request anything, it would be nice to see RPM instead of MPH on the dyno chart. In any case, thank you for doing what you do.
I can show you why big stallled auto rpm chart sucks to look at in the next video
Hahaha. Nice. I look forward to it.
Sometimes this isnt possible, it depends if the inductive pickup is able to read through a plug wire or not. Usually when it shows MPH, it means it wasnt picked up. Since Matt runs stock shit though I bet it does pick it up lol
I love the intro!
Maybe cos I’m binging Bob Ross episodes.
That format is hilarious!!!
I see you still have inspection stickers, I'm doing glad that my state got rid of them
shieeet all that with the silly 30$ fpr
From tuning some gm vehicles myself. I have run into random knock before which can sometimes be the torque spark management. But I'm not sure if your pcm has that.
You are a smart guy .I want you to tune my motor .
looks knock sensor might be shorting. could have water in the chamber that holds the sensor. they rust out all the time maybe take an air wond and blow it out

Sounds pretty damn great !
Is uncle rod’s last name “knockenstien”?
hahaha
Possibly crank wobble from the drivetrain load of the dyno? Seeing how it doesn't really do it on the street
I’m in the process of my first turbo LS build and will have exactly this setup except for an LJMS turbo 4.8 stage 2 cam and two of the AEM external fuel pumps. If I took this tune from your cabinet it would have to be a rather good starting point right?
Yes
Do you still have the pac 1218 springs or did you switch to dual valve springs I don’t remember
Duals with the ported heads, wish they were still singles lol
Sloppy Mechanics why do you wish they were singles?
I second this, why wishing for singles? For street cred or what lol
Westtwoooodd simplicity and cheapness I'm sure
Sloppy Mechanics would’ve been cool to see if the 1218s would’ve worked at the boost level I already have 1218s while being N/A but I’m gonna do the VS billet 80 soon
Uncle Rodney. 😹😹😹

I know once you get higher boost levels, you can get exhaust reversion, & that can cause knock, regardless of fuel.
We do on the racecars I should setup a rig they I can move from car to car with peak and hold gauges and 1 way valves and check after pulls
Awesome ride
Matt great video. I would be very curious if it the limit of the convertor or hotside.... Would help me decide what to buy next
Hotside is the same one that made 1000+ or do you mean turbine hotside
Sloppy Mechanics I mean turbine. Sorry for confusion lol
Just ignore it best you can, hear this truck lol double springs soooooo loud
Charles Layne check pushrod length mine did the same needed short pushrods went with a tsp stage 2 truck cam
Brandon Moody you mean it needed longer pushrods? Just ordered a length checker
Charles Layne do a burnout on the limiter until it stops squeaking
How long is that hurt white silverado gonna sit up there? I kinda wish that intake injector mod woulda worked. Kinda gave me hope for an easy/cheap way to add fuel to these new DI motors.
Would it be possible to normalize the audio levels? I find myself having to turn it up and down a lot. On a different note, the truck sounds freaking awesome!
Yep I actually do a little the audio is all over the place It’s hard to balance haha I’ll just make all the car stuff way quieter next time thanks for the input
dont change a thing!badass audio and video!RAW
Nice man. hey. what can you tell me about the kindha missfire the engine had? it wasn't addling smooth or with a constant throttle.
Lean spots and o2 sensor adding and subtracting fuel too quickly if I turn off o2 sensors it goes away still trying to make them work with this setup and I have only a few flashes into this entire tuneup
The detonatin could be from oil getting into the cylinders at high rpm
Certified ripper there.
I sent you a box of Rodney’s a couple weeks back. Hope you got them. I found out after the fact, the P.O. box number didn’t make it to the label.
I’m gunna stop there tomorrow
What are you running for head gaskets and bolts/studs or is that stock too
Stock stock all re used
Looking to boost my 4.8. But don't know whether to get a 76mm turbo or an 83mm turbo. Eventually plan on swapping in a 6.0. Don't really know if the 83mm would be too big of a turbo for the 4.8 tho. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
You ever figure this out?
Whats that little part throttle bobble about as the RPMs are coming up? Ridiculous truck, I love it lol.. :)
Scroll down a bit I answered it a few times
Cool, thanks Matt.
Converter.... If turbo next up billit... Eventually we will get to the billit, just a matter of how long
It has a billet turbo
Maybe the converter makes noise the knock sensor picks up
Would u come fly down to Florida nd tune cars?
You should try adding some fuel where your seeing the knock
When will Uncle Rodney visit? I'm like WTF? Then I got it.
I dig the intro!
Does your ankle twitch at wot making over 600 whp on a gen 3? Haha 😆 thanks for videos
Nope lol
Deff need to jam a 4.8 and a snail in my colorado!!!
Can you add that tune to your tune cabinet ?
I did yesterday, to get ahead of this question, and look where it got me lol
Sloppy Mechanics my bad man. Thanks tho you the man.
Fixing to order the sloppy stage 2 camshaft notice that one has computer controlled capable and the other is not does this matter don’t want to order the wrong one
Running a vega on a megasquirt gold box
Matt, did you figure out a ballpark of what the single pump and 210s were worth? I think you said you had enough fuel for 17psi, so that should be around 570??
Yeah high 5’s max out of the single pump
Sloppy Mechanics Thanks Matt!
Are you willing to push the limits of the 4.8 with regular non ethanol pump gas? Some of us dont have e85 anywhere close.
Well at this Power and boost you’re gunna need some good fuel either way, I don’t wanna knock this motor apart pushing on pump fuel
Any guesses on the limits of gasoline?
Till us more about the 4.8 bottom end what's up with theam...?
How much fuel pressure do you run because you have some crazy injectors for such little hp , although the gen 3 are predicable don’t push over 28 psi they go pop pop BOOMM
Well it’s explained in Early videos as they’re 370$ and the last ones you’ll ever need and they work great, if you buy 1000$ middle of the road injectors then need another set that’s not very cost effective, meanwhile this is and it’s funny to laugh at 40% idc at 60% alc at 650whp

Can't you lock the converter on the dyno? I thought the 4L80 has lockup.
It does but mine does not support that much HP and lockup as the lockup portion is small
Sloppy Mechanics Oh okay that makes sense. Cheers.
Would need a fancy triple disk converter to lock up at full load
bungee and duct tape for that boost controller would be proper
Someone sent me double-sided tape I’m waiting for it to come in to my PO Box otherwise I think I’m going to put it where the airbag cover is cause I have no airbags
Ah yes, I recall seeing a comment about that. Still, in the interim... Lol
why arent you using the front tie downs???
I think when your adding boost you need to be pulling timing bc your blowing the spark out that's why your not gaining when you add timing
on your last pull you say it was at 10.8 air fuel but the log is 12.8 could you tell me which is correct and why its different.
im not logging it, so it says 12.88 all the time, the gauge is correct,
Is it bad my jibbletts are tingling
holy shit the girl screaming killed my eardrums... use autogain on that bit
Where is that lol
hey man sorry about that , that comment was supposed to go to another video (Crypto Daily today's video). Turn down your volume if you watch that. Not sure why my comment ended up on here. But the dyno pulls were screamin' nonetheless. lol Maybe you should have the injectors flow tested for the possibility of one leaning out on you, causing some random pings
Thank you
Voiceover isnt loud enough to hear on my laptop speakers man can you bump it up a tad?
How do you lock it in 3rd gear?
In scanner utilities
What do you think the fuel mileage is with this setup?
Like 16’s average when I’m not thrashing it, much less while thrashing it
Yasssssss will this tune be posted to the tune cabinet?
its in there already...
Missed it man sorry! Thanks for the quick response.
Which converter are you running?
Nice Nike's I have the same pair!
how far off is hp tuners hp log or read out from the dyno,, i'm running a 5.3 on 5 pounds boost and it's telling me i'm 448hp
king size86 I'm curious how accurate the hp tuners "horsepower" value is as well
What's with the stuttering in the low rpm range?
Fuel table out of whack (not many flashes on these injectors and barrow band 02’s over correcting
Sloppy Mechanics So you're tuning in closed loop? Or putting it back in closed loop for pulls?
