Even though this is an older video, classic car insurance is a MUST just as you stated. For both of my classic beauties, I pay a TOTAL of $228/yr for full coverage. I love it. I'm using American Collectors. I'll check into Hagerty in the future
It’s great and all but I’m not someone who would spend $5,000-50,000 on a classic car and not drive it when I feel like, as much as I feel like, as long as it’s mechanically sound. Classic car insurance is a certain no-go for me. But I do see the value for someone who views the car as a “toy”, “collectible”, etc Or like if it’s $80,000 But for me, they are meant to be driven.. any time.
Hagerty insurance sucks. They dropped me because I had 1 claim on my daily driver which wasn't even insured by them. Now I insure my classic car with State Farm, bundled it with my home insurance. They even gave me collision which hagerty didn't.
I looked into this and tried Hagerty which was recommended. I have a 55 Chevy truck with a 350 (~300 hp). In this video at the end he put how much he pays, it was like $278. The video is 6 months old. When I got my quote it was $498. This is close to double what he had and more that 3 times what I am paying now. I called Hagerty to discuss. It really wasn't a discussion of negotiating the cost or reducing it. It was like a take it or leave it conversation. What I am saying is, it seems his numbers are off.
That would actually work, they will give you a set amount of money for what they think the repair will cost, then you take that money to gas monkey and they will repair it. Of course they would charge way more than Hagerty would pay but in theory that would work. And this is the tough part of classic car insurance, their estimator determines the cost of the repair. But its all negotiable.
Question: I have a 89 Turbo dodge caravan classic van that i need to be a daily driver... (its not perfect, yet but have put a lot of $ into it). Whats a main stream Ins Co that will insure for stated value? I have Geico which only insures classic cars older than 1979.
Do any of these companies have a limit on how old the driver has to be? I am currently trying to get a Classic Car (87' Pontiac Fiero) but I'm not sure if companies will let me have that form of insurance since I'm 19.
BIG UPDATE: I have Hagerty as well after American Collector (avoid them at all costs, they REFUSE to repair any classic that is not a 100 point number 1, long story...but ripoff artists). Hagerty is great, BUT... I had three claims in a year, none collision, all comprehensive claims. One was a shop that backed into another car (I farmed out the job since I was swamped and itwas a simple in an out bearing job). Another was a battery thief that didnt get the batteries but tore off an entre panel, and the third was Hagerty themselves that sent a moron to jumpstart the vehicle, and shorted out the batteries.... So because of that, I can't add another car to my police. Now, this weird restriction only applies to the under 30 year cars, i.e. specialty cars. This is one of them, an ultra rare, Ford. So there's that. Grundy doesnt even accept ANY specialty cars at all...so its daily insurance for that car, which is a shame, as well as frustrating. Update: Hagerty is a lost cause. They will screw you over big, ever since their whole EV, ESG push. So, its Grundy (still privately owned, and now owned by Black Rock) but requires a garage. So daily car insurance is it, and just putting money aside for repairs. Hagerty is just disgusting now, hate based, racist anti car people now. I also added a video, piggy backing on Uncle Tony's Garage on the fake Black Ghost car, as well as the National Car Registry hoaxes.
Regular daily driver insurance with collision is what I have on my classic car after Hagerty refused to give me collision and then dropped me because I had 1 claim on my daily driver which wasn't even insured by them.

Hagerty seems to be getting more pricey compared to other classic insurers
Hagerty was 3x what Grundy cost me.
@@mrman880Yeah. You pay and find out you're not even covered.
Insurance company: oh sorry you crashed your car. What shop would you....
Me: Gas monkey garage
