    Grew up learning to ride on a 1971 Puma with the Hirth 634cc engine. Special memories with them. The 440 Sachs was actually rated almost the same as the bigger engine at 35hp @ 6500rpm while the 634 made 36hp @ 5500rpm as I recall. I know the 634 made an excellent tow sled because of the Salisbury clutch. Engaged at about 1800rpm and it was super smooth, but those clutches unfortunately wear out fast. The 634 made tons of torque for the weight of the sled so it didn't have to work hard as a tow vehicle. In the mountains, I can't imagine it'd make a good choice, though. The Puma's had a really short contact patch of track so they didn't do well in deeper snow. The 440 would likely give the 634 a run for it's money top end as it was a higher rpm motor. 60mph any day. 70mph on a good day.

    Great buy...by all means, keep it. I still have an R90S that I've had since the 1980s, and it gets ridden every week. Original dampers for that bike were Boges, the Konis were upgrades. DEFINITELY clean the carbs; those things will never run properly unless you do. Look on the bright side: if you blow the engine, the tank (after cleaning and creaming) is worth about $300!

Thank you for your help

    Starting a BMW by kickstart: Both feet left and right on the footrest. While standing on your footrests you put your left heel on the kickstarter. Press the kickstarter down until you feel comprssion, relase the kickstarter and then kick it. Why this way: If the engine backfires, the kickstarter will shoot out from under your heel. The way you do it here, you can't apply force and you run the risk, in case of a kickback, that the kickstarter will hit you right under the middle of your foot.

    I grew up in San Jose n we would go to hicks rd. All the time. Never saw albino folks but we did run into some fuct up shit. Half naked tweaked chick running on the side of the road with a big knife. Dude pointing a shotgun at us… weird messages on trees n power poles.. never a dull moment.

    Want to share an eerie experience I had at night in the Santa Cruz mountains, years before I learned about the Hicks Rd lore. My bf and I were driving late at night (probably around midnight) and we kept going up and up in the Santa Cruz mountains (admittedly we were smoking a blunt). The roads are very windy and there is no sidewalk - would be super dangerous to walk on even in broad daylight, but especially in the pitch black night. It was also foggy. Suddenly our headlights light up a woman walking in front of us on the side of the road. She was all white-her skin, hair, even her clothes looked white. She had long white dreadlocks down to her butt and she was walking a pack of about 5 dogs who also looked like they were all white. We both saw it and started freaking out. My bf was running low on gas and our phones had no service up in the mountains. We sped home.. but we both had never seen anything like it. To this day I wonder if we imagined it or if we were both just really high… but like 15 years later he and I both have the same memory. I know it wasn’t a figment of both our imaginations. Anyway.. now and then I would remember that night and wonder what we saw.. and then recently I learned about the supposed albino people of hicks rd. Normally I wouldn’t believe the albino story because it sounds too commercial-horror, but what I saw 15 years ago in the Santa Cruz mountains feels like something more than a coincidental similarity.

    Congratulations on completing the Front Brake Master Cylinder rebuild. Very nice motorcycle, I watched the first video that you posted. I own a 1976 BMW R90/6 26,000 easy miles on it. As I understand the motorcycle originally is from Nevada and wasn’t ridden much until the 1990’s. The four speed transmission is covered in the repair manual but don’t know how many came with four speed gear boxes. Mine has a five speed gearbox. I do know there are 3 different final gear ratios for that motorcycle. One for Touring/ Highway, the middle ratio came on the R90S as an all around performance ratio and the third is a ratio for quick acceleration. I’ve been on the freeway and cruising 75mph with ease. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Remember for next time, you put the valves in first and than the valve stam seals. The seals come with a special sleeve so the don’t get damaged while gliding over the sharp ridges on the valve stam. The head is indeed a good and affordable choice for a turbo build. Also the e21 2.0 head is quite good for this purpose but way more rare. Good luck! 👍🏿

    • @samhulk318i
      @samhulk318i หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have an early e21 2.0 head, 3 1983 1.8i heads, and 1 1984 e30 1.8i head. I’d prefer to use one of the 3 1983 e21 heads but could you tell me exactly why it’s best to go with one of the other two options?

    • @mrt7152
      @mrt7152 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samhulk318i they are identical but the e21 1.8i head has holes in the inlet for injectors. With the e30 head they are closed. If you use the e21 head with carbs or itb’s than you have to close those holes. Or make the injectors in it.
