  • Every fall, many Alaskans are on the hunt for wild edible mushrooms. Jenn had an opportunity to go with our mushroom expert friend Asia. As always, it was another ALASKAN ADVENTURE!

Thanks for the educational video. We stayed at an RV camp in the Wasilla Palmer area and were fortunate to find King Boletes while there.

What part of the state are you ladies picking in? I live near Denali Park entrance and McKinley Village. Do you ever pick Cantwell?

Hey it's Katelyn! Tanya McDonalds daughter. What time does church start ? Also, I love this video im thinking about going mushroom hunting in the future. I don't really like mushrooms but I think it's so satisfying to find your own food.

You did a great job Jenn!! What color dye would that lichen make?

From Asia: With Lobaria Oregana you get a range of lovely browns. You can shift the color a bit by changing your mordants for mushrooms only. Learn more about dyeing with lichen and mushrooms in the book by reading Bessette’s book A Rainbow Beneath my Feet: A Mushroom Dyers Field Guide

Look where Forrest fires were the year before to find morels. There are false morels in AK but next to each other they are easy to tell apart.

Yes, the fall of smell. When the berries get pungent, the one smell of fall I don’t like. The wood structure might be a cubby set for catching lynx.

You can use the old blackened mushrooms for dyeing traps too. Use to use walnut husks for dyeing traps.
