A little over half a decade ago there were these earbuds I got for Christmas and I accidentally sent them through the washer and dryer TWICE and they still were perfectly fine. Those bad boys were indestructible and sounded and felt great and I miss them 😔

10:15 our local walmart has a phone recycling booth that gives you money for recycling your phone, but to keep people from just throwing in broken phones, you need to tap prompts on the screen, it's a really neat system. I think it also scans the phone's info so it can give you cash based on how much it's worth
That's cool, though most buyback or trade-in programs are gamestop tier garbage, unless you have a 1 or 2-year-old flagship they'll probably offer like $15, I get they have to make money, but even for $15-25 I can still get more value out of an old phone as an alarm/clock or a webcam or whatever.
@@vgamesx1 Yeah, it's not much, but at least you're getting money back, even if it's only a small bit. We own a small thrift shop and whenever we get phones we just throw them in a box and at the end of the month we go recycle all of them, usually 10-20 on a good month.

My first computer had a bad monitor. It was a problem I still have only seen the one time on that unit.
You see. It had no red... It was a color monitor, but the last owner warned me that it was cheep because they hit a bump on the way home with it, and the color red always turned out black.
Ironically the main thing I ended up using it for was playing solitaire. Ever play solitaire with all black cards? It's actually really easy when you know the suits.

I've cooked a microchip or two. They were from radio controlled cars that I was modifying. Most notably was when I modified one of them to have dual motors in a parallel circuit. heard a little sizzling sound before seeing a little puff of smoke.
Edit: it was because I wired it wrong. It worked a couple times but then I wired it up differently.

Speaking of things that hold other things together that don't usually, I learned that the reason spit is often thought of as having binding capabilities when it's more of a lubricant is when that phrase became common (Holding it together with spit and baling wire) so many people smoked that almost every persons spit chemically resembled pine tar glue. Hence, if you spit on it with your tar-laden spit and bound that thing together with baling wire till it dried, there was a reasonable chance it would stay that way.

The "Shearing chipset" in half thing is a goddamn nightmare. Okay, I don't think Lexi met that nightmare, and yes, NIGHTMARE.
See, not all PASTES are created equal or for computers, that should explain it all.
But imagine, someone using a "paste" that glues the chipset to it's radiator. Lift radiator, rip the top half of the chipset while the bottom stays snugly pinned...
thats a thermal pad normally, but apparently that onew had turned into glue. i had that exact mainboard once, it deserves to die tbh.

I've broken: a large, relatively flat-screen TV, a Thinkpad laptop, a Wii U Gamepad screen, an entire 3DS in HALF, a DS Lite in half, the upper screen of a nearly identical 3DS to the last, 3 or 4 IPads, and a New Nintendo 2DS XL that I got for Christmas from Amazon for $222 USD in half. *I've done MORE than just raged.*

2:19 Explainer: I had a desk like this. There was no such thing as a computer that would fit in that spot unless it was either a small form factor PC or a cheaper lower powered system. If you wanted a system with some kind of gaming chops, this was your only option if you didn't want your computer on the floor or on that teeny tiny desk (3 foot by 2 foot if I recall right).

I saw the thumbnail for this video, as well as the title, and I'm like: "Oh god no." From what I understand, Europeans, or at least most people from the UK, call what us Americans call French Fries, chips. I also know what a computer chip is supposed to look like, and that people have done a similar thing to this with what we call "Potato Chips," but people across the Atlantic call "crisps."
It hurts my brain looking at this image, even though I understand why that's the title. Plus, with my knowledge, it seems pretty clear to me that someone probably from the UK made that computer chips post.

That shattered disc. When I was younger the disc for diablo 2 expansion shattered in the disc drive like that while I was playing and no one believed me when I said I didn’t break it in a gamer rage moment then painstakingly place each piece in the right place to reconstruct the broken disc in the drive by hand. To prove them wrong I tried to break another disc and showed them they just bend. They still thought I was faking to prove innocence.
I have a hardware gore story… So, Mom’s laptop was in the pantry (we had our computer desk in there at the time), *right next* to the shelf where we have our fryer. One day, I go to get out said fryer… But, I wasn’t expecting there to still be a bunch of oil in the thing. It was heavier than I expected; I overbalanced a bit (because I’m short)… And spilled cooking oil on Mom’s laptop. Mom cleaned it off, but after a while, it just started… Crumbling. That’s when we learned that cooking oil is corrosive to electronics…

@@TantalumPolytope The plastic itself was warping and bending and crumbling, and the casing around the ports came off. I don’t remember what the metal bits looked like (it was a few years ago).
