Nanortalik is the tenth biggest town of Greenland and is located on a small island (also called Nanortalik) roughly 60 miles north of Uummannarsuaq, the southern tip of Greenland. The town has 1564 inhabitants. The name Nanortalik means "place of polar bears". Because of its location, this area was one of the first parts of Greenland settled, both by Inuit and by the Norse. Nanortalik was founded in 1770.
The video begins as we sail into Nanortalik's harbour on the Sea Princess. Next I brave the gale force winds which almost aborted our call here and walk around the small village. I visited the well-preserved old historic quarter around the colonial harbor where the Nanortalik Museum is located. Here I captured the local citizens demonstrating life in Greenland. I also visit the Nanortalik Church which is a Danish Lutheran church. The video concludes as I sail away from Greenland during a beautiful sunset.
Background music for the video was by the local Nanortalik choir.

We have hot springs, where we can swim! And I grew up there, not boring at ALL! I live en Europe now, and sure you have a lot of capitalistic amusement available to you, but NOTHING rivals raw pure untouched Nature, full of animal life!

What a nice experience. You really have enjoyed and captured the moment of Greenland: Silent and vast. One of my best friend is from Nanortalik (im from Aasiaat, north), but i never been in this town. I heard so many stories and now finally i can get a piece of the it. Thanks.
    Did you also went north?

It´s really really a quaint place. Just a few scattered houses surrounded by rocks, no pavements or concrete. In spite of the harsh weather, it was worth the effort.

I always wondered why the houses in Greenland were painted in bright colors. They look like toys.

In colonial times, the red color meant something about school or church business. The yellow was hospital, midwife´s and doctor´s house, the green was the teacher´s place, and the blue were workmen´s houses, I think..But it is not that law anymore, so now you see even purple and pink or orange houses..

Didn't like that at all. Can't tollerate music on any video. I would have loved to hear the wind and the ocean. Glad your other video's aren't like that. The island from the outside looks like someplace King Kong would live. Freaky looking.
