I have a dual fuel system, electric heat pump combined with a propane gas furnace. My home is located in Michigan where we have a wide range of temperatures (sub zero to mid 90's). Heat pump heats house down to 30 degrees then furnace takes over. Over the last two years this system (system is two years old) has saved me close to 400 gallons of gas each year. The heat pump does a wonderful job of cooling my house during the warmer times of the year. I'm very happy with the performance of this system and the savings it has given me. My home is always at a comfortable temperature without any noticeable noise or drafts.
I live in NC. I understand the Fed tax savings on a new heat pump in '23 will be 30%. When will they determine when our state tax heat pump rebate will be available and is there a chance it will be discounted off of the sales price?
Do dual full systems commonly require two separate thermostat for an existing gas furnace? Will the gas heat turn on automatically when temperatures are too cold for the heat pump?
So would it be cost prohibitive to replace an all electric heat pump with one of these? I just bought a house with a wood stove and chimney that aren’t safe to use. I’m wondering if the money would be better spent putting in an outdoor propane tank than replacing the wood stove and chimney.

Thank you. Great explanation and some new perspectives on heat pumps. God bless you.
Thanks for watching
Do you have a video on how to wire dual fuel Tstat?
No we do not
I just bought a house and I think both my heat pump and my furnace are electric. Is that normal?
Absolutely, there are many different ways to heat and cool a home. Many factors go into what type of system a house will need!

No idea when your state will do anything.

One stat. Yes

That’s a personal choice
My dual unit is soooo loud and annoying and had blanket wrapped around compressor. Distressing!
Sorry your unit is so loud😢
