    I agree with what you’re doing. I’m 70, and used to be a spinner with my body, now I call that a “sinner”. Keeping the shoulders closed alleviates so many problems… Over the top, slices, pull hooks, fat and thin shots…

    Good day Andrew,
    The biggest challenge for many of us is how to stop the clubhead from hitting the ground too early (the dreaded fat shot). You have mentioned this problem a few times, I am wondering if you could create a specific drill to deal with this. Even if your body, arms and shaft are in perfect position, the club head often connects with the ground a split second and a couple of centimetres too soon. Many thanks indeed!

    I am 66, only 3 months out from major Knee surgery. Have been hitchhiking sitting on a stool and watching your videos while healing. I have reprogrammed my swing, path, delivery snd mostly the release, to now be hitting it better than ever in my life. Andrew, I have made great improvements just watching your videos. But a drive down from Spartanburg for a hands on lesson that could verify I am on the right path.

    Andrew,
    Years ago I watched a video where they showed swinging with two clubs held in the left hand to build up strength. For whatever reason, swinging the two clubs resulted in this motion that you are demonstrating here and I went out and shot under par that day. Eventually I lost the feeling and have struggled ever since. Finding this video and the reference to Henry Cotton's tire drill has shown me that I was always out in front of the swing and just could not get decent contact or compression. I took this simple swing tip to the range and it has completely transformed my ball striking. Thank you Sir!!!! I am once again flushing everything and taking divots. Hope to look you up for a lesson when I get up your way. Great channel and instruction

      I'm kind of in the same place. I've had a long layoff from golf, had lumbar fusion about 2-years ago, and now trying to return to golf. At some point along the way I've also had two compression fractures in the thoracic spine. I Walk a lot and have been attending a pilates class twice a week, trying to add stretching and mobility. But my body is never really going to support a violent swing that puts a lot of torque on the back. Ran across Andrew's channel searching for swings for seniors or something like that. I think there's a lot here that will help me play well enough to really enjoy golf again. Take care!

    I kind of had that swing 20 years ago. But didn’t know how I did it. I think I saw a Jim flick video and he talked about caulking and re-cocky.
    Anyway, I have not been able to hit a seven iron more than 125 one to130 and when I went to the range today to try out your teaching. I was easily hitting my 7 iron one 140 to 145 with comfort. I’m impressed I’m wondering where you are located. Maybe I could come take a lesson from you. The best part about it is I hit a large bucket and I didn’t have to come home and ice my back. I just can’t turn like they were teaching me. Never could.

    A trove of good basic advice. Keeping the shoulders back into the downswing as you show is really important. I find it helps to at address turn my shoulders just a tiny bit to the right, maybe an inch or less. It helps you get the right amount of tilt and the right elbow in closer to the belt so right arm is below left arm. And as you clearly show, left (lead) wrist slightly bowed (in flexion) and right wrist bent back (in extension).

    Coach A, I have enjoyed and learned alot since I became a subscriber to your channel. I have put into practice many of the drills that you have shown. Since my open heart surgery of about a year ago, I have been working on refining "my swing". We have a PGA teaching pro at one of the courses that I play that holds Saturday morning teaching sessions for the cost of range balls. That pro told me I have a nice swing and that I need to work on making clean contact. I also had another pro tell me that he would not advise anyone to take lessons unless they commit to practicing. So, I took both of those two pieces of advice and have purchased a season pass to my local courses practice range. My goal is to hit 75-80 balls five to six times a week. I am going to sprinkle in lessons to make sure I am not engraining bad habits. The teaching pro has viewed your videos and his approach to a good swing is very close to your -philosophy. The other nice benefit about the season pass for the range is that it has the Top Tracer system. I am presently working on being able to video my swing so that I can have you give me feedback with your online lesson.
    Going to turn 71 in a few days and feel tremendous by walking a round of 9 and 18 holes every week. No issues with the heart. Plus cardiologist (who is golfer) said that walking the course is the best exercise for me. Now, I just need to get my swing refined to make the game more enjoyable for me.
    I would appreciate any feedback on my practice strategy for the next 5 months {golf season is hit and miss in Minnesota after October 15th}. Again, Andrew much appreciative of the excellent videos
    Cheers!

    Hello Andrew,
    First of all, I want to say a big thank you for your videos which are a great help to me and make things much easier .
    I have a question: why do you position your hands so low on your club shaft?

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t play like that! It’s just a habit to be honest. The closer I grip towards the club head the more I feel it. So I do a lot of practice swinging choking down.

  • @mattgordon3437
    @mattgordon3437 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thank you very much! I’m finding your videos really helpful. I have a question for you related to the grip. I understand the importance of holding the club in the fingers and under the pad of the left hand. However, I have tremendous trouble drawing the ball and recently I watched a video of Moe Norman explaining how he holds the club in the lifeline of his right hand. I went out yesterday to try that and found it extremely helpful. For some reason it enables me to turn my body more naturally and to return the club to the ground and the ball in the position and manner you are demonstrating in this video. It seemed to work well with all of my clubs, including my wedge, short irons, longer irons, and even my driver. In fact, I actually managed to hit a draw with my driver for the first time in my life. I know it’s unconventional, but as long as I’m holding the club in the fingers of my left hand so I can turn the club face over as you demonstrate so well, is there any reason you can think of why I shouldn’t just do what seems to be working for me in terms of holding the club a little more in the palm of my right hand? Anyway, complicated question that doesn’t on its face necessarily relate directly to this video; however, I’d appreciate iyour thoughts. Thanks again. I’m finding your instructions really helpful. They are so practical. And I can relate to all of the things you describe that people do wrong. I’m not giving up, though. Like you say, I’m getting at it! Thanks again. Matt Gordon

      Matt, thanks for your comment! If I’ve learned anything over the years the biggest thing is that the golf ball is the best instructor in the world! You should always do what works best for you - I believe in meeting all my students where “they are!” The idea that golfers should all buy in to ONE way of gripping or swinging a golf club is nonsense! We’re all so different! Thanks for watching and get after it! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    I have a question about twisting the club. Using a strong left hand grip and adding a twist, my clubface is over-closed at impact.
    Perhaps I’m over twisting.
    Can you clarify please.
    Thank you for your great teaching!

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Closed club face golfers require less rotation! Excessive supination will likely cause a hook! I would keep a close eye on your trail hand. I’ve found very often that a stronger lead hand isn’t an issue - it’s the trail hand being too far under that is the culprit. Try getting your trail ‘V’ a little more on top or towards your chin to neutralize the grip! Best, A ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    I am 64 and I have definitely lost a lot of distance. My seven iron only goes 150- 155 yards. My driver total is only 240-250 yards. I hit a lot of irons in my yard, and every once in a while, I will hit one 10 plus yards further than my normal distance. That telss me I was missing something. I use to slice but do not struggle with that any more but I still coming over the top with some pulled shots often. Good compression is rare. After working on some of your drills, things are turning around. After this lesson on release,
    I came home tonight and hit about 20 - 25 balls with my wedge. It felt like I was swinging with half the effort as my normal swing. I can tell the club is much faster now. I had great compression on every ball but one fat shot. All the balls were within 12 yards of each other. I am not trying to muscle the shots as I am trying to drop the arms and not spin my upper body. This is very exciting. Too bad our season is almost over 😢 Thanks for all your instructions!

    Thanks for your patience an persistence in this Andrew (multiple videos on this), It is really totally alien to me. Its also very logical and clearly explained, and I'm convinced its the way to go. I think the main difficulty is my brain is grappling to fit it into my old swing and somewhere along the path it wont fit (especially that twist). I need to identify the conflict and throw something out first (or change a key part), which is proving very difficult . Great video as always. Thanks.

      Hi Jerry, thanks for the comment! This is going to sound too simple but if you have them maintain that release pattern but aim the club face further right at address you’re going to see some high push draws!! As long as the path has shifted further right aiming the club face in that direction should improve the start line!! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Andrew; I just finished watching this video & must thank you for such a clear, concise & easy to follow example of the most important part of the physical part of the swing. I did notice that you didn't include the release of the angle of the wrists thru impact which is what really gives me problems. I usually mis-time it & hit it fat much too often. I don't normally have a problem with squaring the face when I don't hit it fat. I'm not hanging back which causes a fat shot but I still hit it fat. You obviously can't see my swing so I know it's impossible to diagnose but if you could advise me on releasing the wrist angle, it would be such a great help. Thanks!

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Mike! To your point I’m a ship without a rudder without seeing your swing. It could be caused by a poor set up. A swing that’s too steep, or too flat! A transition spin which throws the club out. Excessive lateral motion with the pelvis and on and on!
      What I can see is that focusing 100% of the time on brushing the grass ahead of the ball can only help! Most golfers aren’t trying to do that when they’re in the middle of the fairway on an approach shot!
      I would say that most golfers are also obsessed with hitting down in the ball when hitting g the side of the ball and sweeping it would work very well.
      Maybe a change of concept would do the trick! Sorry I can’t be more helpful. You know how to reach me if you would like a lesson. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

I tried so hard to "fire" my hips for many years but made it impossible for me to hit a draw. I think it’s highly likely that you have some excessive early extension which raises the VSP Vertical Swing Plane (The angle of shaft at impact raises excessively!).
      There are multiple reasons for this happening and it’s very hard to advise you blind folded! But rather than trying to fix a swing I can’t see. Start with the drill in the video below! Your hands and eyes should be able to help you out!

    Coach A. I can absolutely relate to your instruction. It is so much needed for us amateurs. I have flipped my entire life. After watching a few of your videos I am swinging my arms again and for the first time believe I am releasing the club closer to correct. With my strong grip I struggle to take the club straighter back and not too much inside. When I turn my knuckles down and throw the clubhead out I have compressed the ball for first times in my life. I am hitting the ball strong this way but am drawing and hooking more than I should. I know I can weaken grip and maybe some other things but before I do I want to be sure I am not rolling my arms through but actually releasing correctly. Any thoughts on how I can be relatively sure release is correct? Again, thank you so much for the great instruction!

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s the trail hand that’s is often the problem! If it’s too strong (under the handle) in particular when you have less loft then it’s harder to control the rate of closure. You need permission to release! Make sure the “V” on your trail hand isn’t outside your trail arm pit! Ideally closer to your chin! Best, A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    It’s amazing how this works. I try to keep my shoulders and hips closed while I swing down to the ball. It keeps everything on plane and from the inside. But as I hit, I get plenty of rotation and my hips open up. But I’m trying not to do it. It seems to happen as a reaction to my swinging arms and wrists, not the other way around.

    Nice job, Andrew, you know I played a round last week with family, and both of them are decent golfers,both single digit HC and great athletes all around, so a topic came up, about how speed and power are produced by the body, and I myself almost fell into the trap , they insisted that spinning your hips , now they actually said spinning your hips gives the golf swing 75% of the swing speed and or power, my head was just about to explode and lash out at what I know to be incorrect,but I caught myself to just listen and be amazed at what some golfer think from bad information and to be honest just wrong analogy and terrible terminology that have been ingrained into some golfers minds.Andrew , I know the way you teach is the correct way for 90% of golfers out there, and of course we're not tour pros and your videos are as simple and easy to understand as they come, and I know you can debate a golf swing with any mad scientist out there or go as deep as they want with golf terminology, but keeping it simple and understanding so.we the regular club golfer can play better, and understand why and what for when bad or good shots happen. I was just about to take my alignment stick out of my bad and hand it to my brother and let him show me how much swing speed he gets from spinning his hips, HaHaHa but I couldn't, just let them say this is what Rory does, I knew that name was coming out sooner or later, I just listen and couldn't believe this is what some pretty good golfers are thinking,.oh man bad terminology out on social media and on TV, really bad.
