Great video Sid. Wise words indeed... I've been using a Lotus Exige cup 240 for a year or so on track and it's magnificent BUT it's worth way too much money. While tyres are cheap, it costs too much to insure for track and you just don't need that hassle. I do skid it about because it's brilliant, but if I get it wrong I'll have a horrible day. Not worth it.
I've got myself a 200 cup in white and it never fails to put a smile on my face. I've only had it round the 8 or 9 months mark I paid over £5.5k for mine. it was going for £6k but knocked some money off it. Good service history the last owner was a car enthusiast and the other owners that had it looked after it to a high standard. Only thing done on it at the time was an exhaust not sure on the make but it sounds well. the only change I've done is that I've changed the car stereo for a USB/bluetooth one as I don't use cd's anymore only for home use anyway. For what it is it's not a shy little motor and the petrol on it isn't that bad if you don't floor it. Also when I got it the last owner put brand new tires on all round which was a good touch as well. My last car was a 206 GTI 180 in blue had that for nearly 10 years last year it died on me and on the clock it did 90k miles. Great video and very true points made.
These are fantastic for track use and especially with brake and suspension set up.. can’t beat them for the money. I’d say more fun than modern super hatches on track
I took my daily Fiesta ST to brands last year to do the GP track day, which was amazing by the way, but at the back of your mind is always, do not bin it. The Clio is a fun car to drive, and if it a track day car then some weight loss can make allot of difference. I would also go for a Civic R but it almost impossible to find a good one now due to age.
So I had a Clio 200 cup and loved it. There's one major issue with them though! The gearboxes... I bought mine on 35k in 2013 and it had just had the gear box replaced under warranty. By the time I sold it at 75k the gear box needed to be replaced again! it was crunching into 2nd and 3rd. Common issue with them unfortunately - same with the 197.
I took my Ford Puma 1.7 round Brands a few years back and it showed up some much faster kit. You’re right you don’t need outright power, especially around a short circuit like that, I think it’s more about the feel and balance with the power, chassis, good brakes and nice gearbox...hmm might need to get another Puma!
Sid, a decent Westfield can be had for 8-9k and you will be quick too. Plus rwd. Buttons to insure cheap to run as so light. Only thing is they are not your only car and you need somewhere to put it.

I had a Megane RS 265 and 275, most fun car i've ever driven. the way everything felt was perfect for me. Then I had a Clio RS Trophy 220, didn't really like it that much. The lack of power and manual transmission bothered me too much. Seating position was also too high and the chassis didn't feel as fun. Now I'm waiting for a new Fk8 Type R, i'm curious if it will beat the Megane in terms of driving enjoyment.
Did 35k in a Clio 200 (The Mk3 with Cup Chassis) and they're a great little car but...get a Megane 250 for similar money and the chassis is just as good, it also has a locker and it's in another league as far as performance goes...+ you can map it (and actually get more (a lot) power unlike the Clio)
How would you compare it to Fiesta ST? I daily drive a Clio 3 RS now and I absolutely love it. Will be moving to the US for work, so looking for a replacement. Had a chance to test out the Fiesta ST briefly and it felt much less raw and direct and felt less fun.
Prefer the extra 80bhp from my mapped R26 meg, plus the all important lsd, not to mention the recaro;s as std for less than £5000 these days , nice vid tho Sid , oh and mine has never missed a beat in 5 yrs …….Sid trust me you need to test one.....
I had one of these a couple of years back in alien green there good little cars but you really have to keep them rite up there in the rev range to get the best out of them .
If you ever get to Italy, maybe on the Andria International racetrack I'll happily lend you my corsa e OPC. Comes with a lsd from. Factory. Would love to hear your opinion on it on the track xD
I would guess the fiesta st is a better all a rounder, Clio is more track focused. Very hard suspension. Both great cars, can’t really go wrong! What’s Sid say?

Depends what your priorities are tbh mate as already said the st is a better all rounder economy,comfort, build quality etc but the Clio is simply a better handling car with its excellent chassis and in my opinion the sound of it is far better than the fiesta All I would say is make sure you get the 200 cup or cup pack not the 197 or standard 200 as they are very different cars to the cup
I currently own an RS200 and had a fiesta ST180 before I bought the Clio. The fiesta is definitely the better all rounder but the Clio is definitely more fun and involving to drive. Depends what matters more to you really.
Mr Studio try go skippy, best prices insurer for me at 20 now in a clio 197 (had 2 other Renaultsport clios and 2 Renaultsport meganes since I was 18 and they’ve always insured me)
@@sammysev16 insurance it's so strange there really isn't any rhyme or reason with it I find. Some insurers are great for some and terrible for others. I'm 19 so I struggle anyway but I've never been quoted 10k!
This any day I’ve owned both and my Clio rs200 cup is better than my old fiesta st mk7.5. Better handling, more rare to see on the roads than a fiesta st. The Clio’s will spank an fiesta st on track and on a B road especially for corners
This myth of French cars is utter tosh. For example, I've had a Citroen C2 VTS, Clio 172 Cup, Clio 200 and an Mégane RS250, I thrashed the pants off of all these cars and absolutely nothing went wrong. They were perfect to own and used no oil. My friends who have had CTRs at the same time as I had these cars, all had niggles of some sorts. The cars that people should bash are actually German. They always claim to be reliable and efficient, but every German whip that I've had has always needed new parts etc. I personally don't rate German cars IMHO

The Clio is definitely quicker round a track when standard or mildly modified but the EP3 is a lot easier to get big performance out of.
