If Porsche were to build a front wheel hot hatch it would be incredible, finally that all aluminium engine with 230bhp+ NA, proper double wishbone suspension etc etc 🤤
I went from a Clio 182 Cup (7 years) to a Clio Trophy (6 Months) into a 197 (3 Years) and now in a 200 Cup. The first time I drove an R27 I forgot about the Mk2’s. Down a good road it just felt so accomplished. I know a lot of people like the Mk2 but I don’t see it myself. Once you get one with the Recaros it starts to feel special to boot.
The MK2 & MK3 are very different cars to drive, think it really comes down to a personal preference (as said in the video i really enjoy both and they both have there own good and bad points) Would certainly like to try a 200 on track 😎
With the gear shift. I found changing all of the engine mounts (particularly the lower dog-bone mount) to more firmer ones can have a real positive effect on the standard factory gear lever. It feels soo much more precise and direct. Slots in to gear a bit like loading a bolt action rifle!
Good review and a very good point about being able to rev the car out all the way up to 3rd without worrying about speed cameras, and unmarked cars, etc. it's still moving at that point but in something like a turbo Megane RS 275, 300 or any of the modern hot hatches you are at 100mph in 3rd. I recently bought an 200 RS and have an i30N after owning a Megane 265 cup and the 200 is a cracking little car. Is it a bit lardy? Yes but no more so than a F56 Cooper S and the 200 handles so much better than the mini then you have the rev happy motor over the MCS 2L turbo which isn't worth revving over 5k.
Thanks & glad you enjoyed it 😎 Always hearing good things about the 130N, must get round to trying one 😬 Reviewed a tuned mini 3 a few weeks back, rapid but very boring in terms of driver engagement
Stumbled across your review, best one on the 200 so far. I have a old 850 t5 manual and with a few mods its ballistic in a straight line. But I miss the light weight revy nature of a good hot hatch. I'm not sure if I want to spend money on making the volvo turn or give in and get the go cart lol
Thanks & glad you enjoyed the video, if you’ve seen the other videos on the channel I’m a sucker for a Renault hot hatch 😬 You can’t beat these cars for NA thrills, certainly and it will certainly feel light in comparison to the Volvo - have both if the budget allows 😎
The fuel economy is not horrific don’t get me wrong, I was more pointing out my 4 litre V8 M3 will deliver 28-30mpg on a run and she’s a tank at 1,700kg’s in comparison to the Clios weight 😅 Overall really enjoyed driving the Clio 200 and can certainly see the appeal 😎

You’ll have no issue with the fuel consumption when you make the switch in that case 👍 They are brilliant fun Harry & I’m sure it will be worth the wait when you get one 😎
The reason why it feels slow at low rpm is because of the change of the exhaust line for aftermarket, if you change it, you need a good tune on the dyno, also to get rid of the hesitation at ~2500rpm. My 197 has OE muffler with custom midsection with sportscat, pulls really strong in the midrange RPM, perfect for twisty country roads where you do not want to rev out all the time, Honda better suited for that 😁
Think that's maybe the first 200 I've seen with the bump strips sprayed black. I've got a 200 Cup and thought this was too from the thumbnail, until I spotted the colour coded handles, the soft dash, fatter wheel with the buttons, electric mirrors...
Still not great though considering the MK172/182 can manage 40+ mpg with a 5 speed gearbox 😅 Even more so as my 4 litre V8 M3 can manage 27+ MPG on a run
They are heavier but the composure is better. The biggest plus everyone forgets is a big crash in a 182 you won’t be coming home, but in a 200 the safety was massively improved. It’s got 5 star for occupant safety in tests. That is a genuinely important thing to consider.
I can’t recall where Matt said he purchased them from but if you search “Renault Clio recaro seat frames” a few come up (Matt advised they actually lower the seat 50mm over stock 👍)
Really excellent video. I've had two 182s... really like my current 182 and was considering getting a 200 Cup. Given that my 182 is a fun toy for blasting about the place, it may be better off that I leave that itch unscratched. What do you think ? BTW they did do a 'special version' and that was the LHD Cup racer with the Sadev box. They don't come up for sale very often but when they do they're £25K-£30K :(
