In today's video we will discuss the worst retcon in Dragon Ball History. To be specific, this is the fact that Yajirobe survived the androids in the timeline of Future Trunks. Dragon Ball Super introduced this retcon and it breaks so many rules. This even includes the C-Word. Canon. This anime and manga related video gives a full explanation

I like to think that Yajirobe survived because 18 didn’t put enough power into the blast because she thought he was a normal human so their was no need to put as much effort into it like she did with the Z fighters. Similar to how Cell knocked Mr. Satan out of the ring, an attack that would’ve killed most people and yet he survived.
I agree. My headcanon for how Yajirobe survived is Korin and Yajirobe went down to Earth to help the Z fighters because the situation gets desperate, and they need senzu beans. Yajirobe manages to stay alive, but because he assumes everyone is dead, he learns ki control to stay alive out of desperation.

This would be a nice theory if 18 didn't have infinite energy, there's no reason to not go full power but then again, knowing 18 she would hold back on weaker beings.

Except Mr. Satan has maxed out his Luck stat, think about it. He is the only Human on earth who hasn't been killed on screen, in a way that would make it very obvious he died and excluding the whole planets erasure by Beerus/Frieza. He tanked hits from Cell and was not only Spared by Super Buu he was also able to dodge Kid Buu AND tank a single hit. Yajirobe has similar Luck always seeming to dodge/tank hits that should have killed but managed not to, while also being able to be the pivotal change in a fight.
luckily for yajirobe, they missed all his vital organs.

I still think the worst retcons is getting rid of the saiyan tails and changing bardock's story and goku's origin to resemble superman. These 2 retcons along with some others have kinda turned me off from dragonball over the years. I cant stand when writers establish something in their lore then turn around and take a dump on it.

@QaamansLand past the saiyan arc, tails stopped showing up in the series and I know toriyama came out with the s cells explanation but it just looks like to me lazy writing for forgetting they existed.

@superdragon123 nah he said he forgot, toriyama has a history of forgetting things he introduced into his stories. He forgot launch was a character, he forgot about the tails, he forgot some other things I can't remember at the top of my head.

AT: It’s true. (laughs) Goku was originally an actual monkey in the initial sketches, after all. My editor told me, “Without a tail, he has no distinguishing traits,” so I added a tail. That tail I added was such a nuisance when I was drawing, I couldn’t stand it… so I immediately thought up an episode where his tail gets cut off. (laughs)

Why are we pretending that filler and specials that were never part of the manga are retcons?
It's more just showing different canons which do cover what happened to Yajirobe - which the manga mostly ignores his existance in the Future Trunks timeline.
The main issue is somehow Yajirobe and Korin were able to take blasts from the Androids and not die *instantly.* Somehow they clinged to life long enough for Korin to give Yajirobe the last Senzu Bean.
That's what I'm wondering, filler should never be acknowledged as canon. Just because something that was shown in a filler was "retconned" doesn't mean squat.
The thing is that it is canon to the anime continuity, and in Super they retcon what they established in the past filler episodes by explaining how Future Yajirobe survived.
If the anime didn't count filler, then why did they have to go out of their way to explain why and how Future Yajirobe survived. It would have been easier to say that Future Yajirobe never battle the Future Androids, then explaining how he survived.
To top it off, (as far as I remember) Future Yajirobe wasn't in the Super Manga, which means the anime writers brought back Future Yajirobe themselves. So not only do they acknowledge the filler of Future Yajirobe fighting the Future Androids, they also retcon his death and explained how he survived for an ultimately pointless reason besides that they wanted to bring him back.

@mexicandruglord Filler episodes are not canon to the Super anime. In the same way the Z movies aren't canon. They simply explained Yajirobe's survival because it would've been weird if they had just had him show up without explaining how he would've lasted as long as he did. Also because I believe it was stated somewhere that they didn't have Senzu Beans anymore in the Future, which means something had obviously happened to Korin.
Honestly i think its just a dumb retcon, not the worst. The guy (who is largely just....there) just happened to survive a hole in the tummy tum.
Honestly the retcon or continuity error of Zamasu knowing about Beerus hanging out with mortals and not knowing about Beerus hanging about mortals all in one Arc is a worse Retcon just for that Arc in general... especially since that was the base of his motivations.

I didn't mind it, since it made more sense than buu's mystical properties being responsible for the split.
@ThatYellowSpiderGuyIt is a retcon, since Potara Fusion having a time limit for mortals was never brought up until years after the Buu Saga.
But personally, it's not a bad retcon, because there was literally no explanation for why Vegito defused inside Buu besides a vague guess by Goku, who knows very little about how Majin Buu functions. Not even Old Kai knew why that happened.
After they separated in buu this retcon doesn’t really bother me as much .

Nowhere in any piece of Dragon Ball media before Super ever stated or even implied that being a mortal was the reason why Vegito didn't stay fused inside Buu, and Vegito was pretty much the only reference for a mortal potara fusion until that point. Toriyama has a bad habit of forgetting things, so it wouldn't surprise me if he forgot that potara fusion is supposed to be permanent, Supreme Kai or not.
Yanjorbe's wound looks more like a stomach wound than a chest wound to me. It could be possible he simply lasted long enough for the senzu bean to save his life while the androids moved on to attack other people that were more pressing than this one guy they mortally wounded.

The worst retcon is bardock’s wish
His wish combined with the massive coincidence that Goku was shipped to earth right before the planet was destroyed, and raddits also not dying on the planet just means the wish was granted then and there and the rest of Goku and raddits future was it their own hands. This wish did not effect everything after that moment

This isn’t really a retcon, it was never even stated in z what happened to yajirobe in the future to begin with.the only evidence that yajirobe potentially died was the filler episode and you could just say that the writers chose the tv special to follow instead. In that tv special we have no idea what happened to yajirobe.A much worse retcon is gokus history and tights and jacos entire existence (also beerus telling frieza to destroy planet vegeta).
you're just contradicting yourself, it is shown in the filler episode in question (like qaaman shows and talks about in the video) that Yajirobee gets blasted in the chest by 18 and we can assume that since it happens in a montage of all the Z fighters being killed he did not survive the blast. Just because it happened in a filler episode doesn't make it less canon to the anime (unless it directly contradicts something in the manga/anime later which seeing as it's never shown in the manga whether he lives or dies and the anime doesn't contradict it later either so that doesn't apply here). Now whether or not it's the worst retcon is highly debatable and subjective but it's still a retcon there's no debating that

Even if filler doesn’t explicitly contradict from the manga, it’s STILL not canon/it still didn’t happen, and assuming otherwise is a weird trend that fans have gotten into over the last few years. The whole “head canon” nonsense really has convinced fans that THEY get to pick and choose what happened and what didn’t happen lol
My main question is why do people say goku's history was retconned just because bardock said something he'd wish for. We don't even see or hear about the wish being granted so why assume the worst?

It's called filler because it fills in the gaps. It doesn't happen in the manga still but it happens in the anime and thus it happens and is canon to the anime until something changes that

I always thought that Super's future Trunks was from a slightly different timeline than the future Trunks from the Android Saga.
Proof: There was another Trunks, from another future timeline, who went to his past but got killed by Cell, as evidenced by a second time machine next to "our" future Trunks's that was trashed; the future Trunks we saw was probably the second one (assuming there were no other undocumented "change the past" attempts before him).
Who's to say that this future Trunks never even visited that *specific* timeline, and if he did travel to the past, how can we prove it wasn't a very similar or identical timeline to the main one we were watching back then?
(In fact, with the whole "Zamasu" thing and the two Zenos, how can we even prove *which* timeline is which anymore? Or that this main timeline is actually the same one we saw in the Android Saga?)
They should have at least saved Roshi, Puar, Turtle, and Oolong.
they hung with Roshi who'd count as a Z fighter since he was the world's strongest when the red ribbon army was at its peak, so they'd get wiped out too
Dragonball z kakarot was supervised by toriyama and includes explanations behind who survived and why. Roshi and co hid in his submarine. Trunks regularly delivered supplies to them so they wouldnt starve and visited chichi and the ox king regularly as well.

not really a retcon as there wasn't anything in canon saying yajirobe dies during the androids attack(considering there were already a lot of plotholes like why didn't king kai just have the dead z fighters/goku talk to them,tell them about new namek's location or use the time chamber.) though man i felt so bad for korin.
if anything the thing i hated about that arc was the other alive history of trunks special characters being forgotten like roshi/puar/oolong in the submarine with only turtle being shown as a lookout,eighter appearing only to get erased never seeing goku(would at least like a story with him meeting 17 & 18.).
not doing anything with android 16 technically being in that timeline(would've liked instead of the ending we got after trunks sliced zamasu he tried to attack only for 16 to sacrifice himself to destroy him.) & especially future ox king/poor future chi-chi never knowing a version of good goku was around alongside being erased never knowing her child was dead.
I'm glad we can put an end to all this canon talk. It was a buzz kill. But if "Ghost of the Past" was supposed to be Trunks's memory and he was a baby when all the Z fighters died then maybe it's fair to say Yajorobe was only believed to be dead. If we're trying to make it make sense.🤔💬

I can see your perspective on this being the worst retcon and dragon ball history but I'm gone have to disagree with you In being the worst retconed in dragon ball history. Dragon ball super broly movie Is the worst retconed in dragon ball history and since the granolah arc shared similar elements of the dragon ball super broly movie they are under the same category as being bad retcons. Me personally I rather digest/ tolerate the retconed of yajirobe in the future timeline than dragon ball super broly movie and the granolah arc bad retcons any day! Dragon ball super broly movie retconed without a doubt almost made me get up out my seat in, Walk out the theater and go straight to my car and call it a day, if I would've done that I would've missed 97% of a high quality movie with only 3% bad aspects of the movie, and the 3% contains, bardock, the absence of tuffles being the pioneers of scouters, and goku and vegeta illogically being born on the same day.
Maybe they all survived the blasts from the androids but died later due to their wounds. Korin only had 1 senzu, which he gave to Yajirobe since he was the one to whom he was closest. So he is the only one who ultimately survived.
Yajirobes death was never recannoned it showed him getting blasted in his side but never actually dead yajirobe always carries a bag of sensu beans with him at all times he more likely got blasted and took a senzu Bean after they left saving himself easy explanation not a recannon. Just kinda Common Sense

Another thing I like to point out, things we’ve seen in flashbacks aren’t always canon events. The story may be true for the most part, but some details could easily be changed later along the lines. Even in history of trunks where it shows all the z fighters getting killed, the picture itself isn’t canon but the idea of it is.
Have you ever gave the theory of the history of trunks, yajirobe living or not was because its told in the rough perspective of different characters?
As for Yajirobe living or not because of corrin was because he was holding onto the last senzu at the time. Used it when the androids blasted him. Then went back to the tower to discover a mortally wounded corrin?

Other than Gohan & Krilin vs Racoom, I don't think we ever see a character hold on even after serious damage from a physical attack.

Nah I have to disagree. The worst retcon is the fact that Master Roshi is equally as powerful as Super Saiyan god Goku. They were matching fists and Goku had to imply that Roshi was holding back his true strength the entire time.
Bro, if that was true, where the fuck was Roshi during the Cell and Buu arc? And also how did 17 get as powerful as SSJ Blue Goku? He didn't train. I don't remember the explanation if there was one. Even if there is one, it's still stupid. That's like saying Chiaotzu is stronger than Super Cell during the Majin Buu time skip. That's like saying Yamcha was holding back the entire time is as strong as Goku Black but never trained but played Baseball.
If you ever look up the definition of R-tarded in the Webster Dictionary - it reads the idea created to make Master Roshi and 17 equal or slightly stronger than Goku in Super. It's honestly the reason why I stopped watching Super for a long time during the beginning of Tournament of Power arc. I just can not fathom.

This same arc retconned a scene from the Buu saga where Goku tried to bribe Elder Kai with a kiss from Bulma.

It was established early during the Android arc that Trunks altered and potentially fractured the timeline when he initially went back to warn the Z-Fighters about said androids. This is showcased by the appearance of Androids 19 & 20 and Cell since neither 19 & 20 weren't in his time and Cell himself said he was from an alternate timeline where he killed Trunks and took the time machine. Also the existance of Mai in the Zamasu future when she wasn't there before.
Who's to say the future that Zamasu attacks is the same timeline as the one previous Future Trunks came from? Maybe Yajirobe and Korrin were forced out of the Lookout during the attack. Or, taking a page from DBZA: maybe they were on their honeymoon when the androids attacked

There are two Yajirobes as seen on the manga spines. One died the other lived.

@@QaamansLand the spines on the manga volumes have art of the characters running. I think they were the "Tankobon" releases. Yajirobe is seen running alongside both Piccolo then later Dende.

@@QaamansLand For the Tankobons, there is a drawing on the spines of each volume. When you link the spines of all the volumes together, they form a scene, and Yajirobe appears twice. Toriyama probably forgot he had already drawn him.
Makes even less sense when you consider the scarcity of senzu beans in history of trunks
The answer is simple: Multiverse Theory. Anytime Trunks traveled into the past, it created a ripple effect that changed the parameters of HIS timeline.

I actually like Super’s retcon. It makes him just that more of a low tier badass.
Future Yajirobe may have been blown to bits by Zamasu and his atomized remains erased from existence, but I'm quite sure this isn't the last we'll be seeing him... He will return for inexplicable reasons.
We're talking about a TV special and a filler episode and even if Yajirobe got shot everyone dies different. He was shot in the stomach not the chest and if Yamcha can take a senzu bean for the same thing then I don't see what's the problem and that BTW was Canon Yamcha getting a hand thru him. Strength is not willpower when it comes to death/survival and much like Qaaman they didn't believe he was a threat so they just shot him and didn't finish him off which is the same thing they did with Future Timeline people who aren't worth a challenge. Gohan only dies cause he keeps fighting and getting closer so they decided to disintegrate him unlike everyone else who just was target practice. Also I'm sure multiple deaths before this point would've pushed him to train or Korin himself would've made him. Finally Yajirobe never died before this moment so dragon balls are still an option. Dende obviously still comes to Earth and creates them at some point cause Piccolo died. Oh I can't forget the most important part, Trunks was a baby. Why would he care about this random old guy who doesn't train him to defeat the androids to even mention him. Also nobody asked they just all assumed which is why he's never brought up. So for me when he says Korin sacrifices himself and gives Yajirobe the last senzu bean I believe the bean daddy cause we know that senzu works no matter what so long as you can swallow it. You may be missing a limb but full power is restored and everything else is healed immediately and faster than Dende healing. Please don't quote non Canon other timeline of another timeline TV specials that has a spin-off filler of that as Canon, it's so far removed anyway to really count but if it did this is how he did
To me the worst plot hole/ retcon is that Vegito unfuses if mortals do it instead of gods cuz it was so clear they only put that in so Goku & Vegeta could come back as easy as possible!!! & to make it worse Old Kai is fused WITH A WITCH!!!!

This could be explained because that flashback is from what Trunks assumed happened, he never saw him die cause I doubt he would have survived if he was at every single one of there deaths. All he knew is that all Z-Fighters were targeted and must have heard stories from Bulma and Yajirobe was mentioned as being there from time to time. And since he never met Yajirobe, just heard of, he wouldn't recognize him

Given that every instance of Trunks going back in time he was essentially a different Trunks, I always assumed that the blue Trunks that we got was a different Trunks from the one from Cell saga since the universe he came from essentially came into existence when Goku came into contact with Zamasu even though he appeared before that event occurred. Also, also, the androids that he thought were weaker were actually not weaker than the ones we know of. And it is clear that each new universe result from time travel is clearer somewhat different from the previous.
You are correct in that Future Trunks should have traveled to the point in which Goku, Goten, and Chi-Chi were dead because of Zamasu. It doesn't make sense that he appeared beforehand. However, I don't think it was meant to imply that it was a different Future Trunks. I think the writers of the anime just made a mistake. That mistake did not happen in the manga.

In all honesty, I can't stand it when people use the word retcon now. It now comes off more as a copout to excuse lazy writing, especially when it comes to modern Dragon Ball. This is why I look at continuity the way I do, because then nothing is a retcon and has always existed in the "new" version of events, without it contradicting the original source material.
But that's just me.

So it makes sense that he will not be able to detect him at all. If it was Gohan or any other of the main Fighters I would have agreed with the video.
Also this is Dragon Ball, they can take the head off and the guy still will have some time, in my mind 1 explanation is that Korin felt what happened and went of the tower to help Yajiroby and got killed in the process and thus no one could grow the Senzu Beans
And the funny thing is, Yajirobi was actually stronger than Chiaotzu in the saiyan saga. He may of even been comparable to Raditz or a Freeza soldier by the time of the Buu saga.
So he wasn't weak by any means.

Yajirobe is a joke character, so he can reappear whenever, like Arale which appears in DBS and easily bodies both Son and Vegeta.
He also doesn't have ki, so he is undetectable, regardless of his "strength."
This of course only makes sense in the context of a joke character.

Am I crazy for thinking this really isn't that big of a deal? Yajirobe died in a filler flashback and didn't linger on it. Super even gives an answer for how Yajirobe could've survived the flashback sequence even. Sure it's a bit convenient that he survived all of the bad future and no one ever mentioned him nor was he ever seen, but it's hardly an ass pull to say against all odds Yajirobe was one of the survivors. Roshi was one of the confirmed survivors of the future timeline, but it's not like he did anything for all of future Trunk's life either (and he's the one who trained goku, and knows the mafuba! The real biggest retcon in Dragon Ball is everyone forgetting the Mafuba existed until the Tournament of Power. Give Roshi a pickle jar and a distraction and he can solo any threat in the series!).
Listen, if you asked me 10 years ago if Yajirobe was still alive during History of Trunks, I would 100% say no he died. Not because I had that one off filler scene burned into my memory, but because when the show said all the Z Warriors died. I assumed that meant **all** of them. But it's really not an issue for me 20-30 years down the line that the writers decided actually one other guy who was never high on the DBZ character totem pole managed to coast through the bad future by being too weak and insignificant for the androids to bother with.
Yajirobe saved kid Goku and took him to Korin’s tower and helped them defeat Vegeta. I can’t believe people doubt him surviving.
Wait, if the manga is based off the anime, then why does the anime’s episodes go on for so long rather than being done quicker with what’s happening, and not including everyone talking between moments in the tournament of power since if it’s coming out first they’d not need to include characters talking for half the episode then.

I thought it was related to super sayian being legendary, having a pure heart or S cells....not fucking yajirobe "retcon" which was based on a static scene of a flashback inside filler episode.

Yajirobe is the single best Z Fighter. He was stronger than Goku and Krillin when he first meet. He cut off Vegeta's tail, essentially saving the world, because otherwise Vegeta would have Killed Goku. He Threw Android 16 head at Gohan during the Cell Saga, essentially saving the world, and Universe, because it gave Gohan the courage to defeat Cell. And he saves Goku And Trunks Lives in the future, essentially saving the world, universe, and all or time and reality, because Zamasu and Black would have never stopped. Him fighting the androids makes sence, because who else is going to fight when the main z fighters have died? Korin is also a fighter, and likely became earths guardian after Piccilo died, killing Kame, so why wouldn't he fight? The scene where Yajirobe dies is also likely artistic licence by the animators and wasn't likely intented to be a canon scene. Even if it is canon, the Andriods are sloppy. They would have likely now made sure that they killed their foes, or enjoyed "playing with their food." They likely would have just killed Gohan if they wanted to instead of just taking his arm if their wern't doing something for fun or because they are careless. Future Yajirobe is still alive in the second future timeline created when trunks went to his futures past.
It was Hercule/Satan who threw Android's 16 head at Gohan. HAHA!

I find it funny when people say he never was serious about training and this and that but he was an individual that was free as a bird and did what he wanted. Even tho he was weaker than the other z fighters, I always liked him for who he was. A man living his own life and just did what the fuck he wanted. Nuff said!! Haha!

This is why I believe dbs future trunk it not the same as dbz future trunks.
Both lived the exact same Android saga events, by with minor differences (hair colour etc) and the world Whis took him too at the end of the Zamasu Saga was the DBZ future trunks timeline.
That's like saying DBS is a different timelime from Z because of inconsistencies.

In my mind, the only true cannon in Dragon Ball is the original manga - in its entirety. Dragon Ball Super, both its manga and anime, had significant involvement from outside parties. Toriyama may have been involved in elements of the creative process, but the same can be said for Dragon Ball GT - which everyone universally considers as invalidated now.
Dragon Ball Super has effectively retconned the ending of the manga - so does that mean the original manga’s ending isn’t cannon anymore? That doesn’t make any sense at all.
Naw Dai Kaioshin and Boo having God ki is a worse retcon.
yajirobe was not considered a threat like the Z fighters as he was never categorized as one by the Red ribbon army so good chance 18 just blasted him figuring he would die like every other human and given how hes always hiding and sneaking around him slipping away and surviving are not even a stretch given he has never been noticed by any of the enemies that have sought out the power levels of the Z fighters
This isnt really a retcon let alone the worst dragonball retcon. It is pretty weak. The worst retcon is bardocks wish for the success of goku which would undo all of gokus work to be from a wish or some saiyans being relatively good making goku and vegetas characters arks weaker. Nobody cares if yajirobe lives or dies
