      La línea 10 y 11, son A y B porque iban a ser otro tipo de trenes mas pequeños, ahora les dejaron letras porque van al estado de México, aunque el origen de la linea «A» se iba a llamar Alimentadora...!¡

    Hello yourself in Mixcoac Station I recommend you visit the Museo del Metro. It's small but it's very interesting because you learn quite a bit about its planning, history, technical details etc. As a cherry on the top there's also a fun souvenir shop with quirky things like underwear with the subway map on it lol

  • @spookyryu

    Lines A and B, go outside of Mexico City to the suburbs in Mexico State, thats why have letters instead numbers, also overall its safe I might say even its more safe than the one in New York, lol

      Yeap, NY its awful, lol, also the subway its a huge museum, there are so many stations with something interesting, excluding A and B lines, all the lines has at least 4 or 5 stations with cultural stuff, even one has a mammoth skelleton, but the majority of users just ignore them, but you can tell the government put effort in making the subway a good experience

      ok I ll recommend you some stations with things in it, Talisman has the mammoth, in the red line you can dine in tezozomoc and azcapotzalco replicas of aztec and mayan statues, in the orange line you can find a huge stair piano in polanco, in auditorio you will fine some subway maps from other countries, in the yellow line la raza station has the science tunnel, you will find things like astronomy and biology, in line 3 station copilco has paintings, in the blue line Revolucion has pictures of the mexican revolution and zocalo station you can find diferent stages of the Zocalo, in the pink one Insurgentes station has some pop art also in San Lazaro, also you can find concerts randomly in there and gold line in Mixcoac you can find a subway musuem and you sometimes there are chess competitions, this are the ones that I recall now, lol

      amazing, thanks for the info! I'm going to have to have a subway day! I filmed a video in Polanco last week and I noticed on the stairs was a pyramid from Chichen Itza. I think i'll plan in this video for next Tuesday. I saw the models of the Zocalo in Zocalo station, i mention it in the historical center video but I forgot to get any footage of it!

    i lived in Russia a few months and Moscow subway is just amazing, too much pretty, and even have free wifi but despite i speak a little russian it's quite stressful to know in which station you are hahaha the names are just in the middle of the track and it's not easy to check it. BTW the font of the Mexico City's subway was designed by Lance Wyman, who also designed the graphics for the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games.

      Lol I think I said that in so many videos! Defo use the metr. A lot of TH-camrs make out it's unsafe and even lie that they were mugged or pickpocketed just to get views and play on gullible viewers. But in reality the CDMX Metro is no different from any other in the world. I got pickpocketed on a bus in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago but never had such issues in Mexico City. It's streets aheads of somewhere like London.

    I've gotten the metro numerous times. I use the metro card. What I noticed about the subway is that it's clean and doesn't smell like urine😁
    What cracks me up are people that complain about being pickpocketed and carry crap in their pockets. If it's in your pocket easily accessible to you, then it's easily accessible to others.
    Pickpocketers are in every major city around the world. People should just use some common sense, but they don't unfortunately.

    • @TheDJ42
      @TheDJ42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't *usually* smell like urine. I lived in Mexico City and the Metropolitan Area and certain stations especially in Line B (Buenavista - Cd. Azteca) smell like urine. But overall you're right.

    • @elsuloniano9541
      @elsuloniano9541 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t smell like urine you say? I can assure that you only visited central zones… in the extremes of the metro lines far away from the turistical zones (for example the Pantitlán station) the stations and bus stations smells like urine all time

    • @GlobalAdventurer
      @GlobalAdventurer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elsuloniano9541 I've taken just about all the metro routes. None of the "metro cars" smell like urine. There may be a particular part of a metro where homeless sleep at night that I haven't seen that smell like urine. I haven't been inside all the stations. But, in other major cities like NYC it all smells like urine more or less.

    Overall, a good metro guide.
    When there I just plunged in. Even though I speak enough Spanish to help and to hinder I decided I was going to master the monster. Armed only w/a metro produced map, I could get around.
    Not intimidating but overwhelmingly interesting. I learned when to put the backpack in front of me or on the floor. I learned that the train might stop in mid-route unannounced. PDA occurred only a couple of centimeters from me on my right or left-at the same time once! I now know what sardines might experience were they alive. My son said the metro in Tokyo was as packed, only there
    was ac.Yes, it was fascinating to see the chicle vendors work the trains. As far as experience is concerned, these metro bus and subway rides made my journey (not a trip or vaca ) all the richer. If only people could open their horizons and realize that one can miss the stop (especially if one doesn’t know phrases like, “excusame” or “con permiso”) whether their fault or not and it’s not the end of the earth.
    I like your vids. Had I known about travel vlogs when I first travelled to CDMX, I’d have made better use of them. I’m getting ready to go again and am watching yours and others to get a game plan together. After the Corona has been resolved, I hope you go back to CDMX!

    Great video David as always. I know its not new but just saw it now. I have been to CDMX three times now and love it. To get around I either walk or subway. I have taken the subway from the airport, Terminal Aerea station. Also of note, many station platforms have a separate area for women and children so men cannot walk into this area which usually has a transit enforcement officer there. Lastly, some platforms have markings to line up. Overall, while mostly simple stations, the CDMX subway is clean, fast, safe and easy to use. I would avoid rush hour if you can as its super busy/crowded. Hasta luego!

Wifey and I got back Saturday morning after 9 days in CDMX (I know that's small potatoes for you}, but we are a bit more hampered by work and family connections here in Southern California. We DID make it to both Cuernavaca and Puebla, but they were just day trips. My wife is already talking about visiting next summer (probably early September)! Do you have any recommendations? We could fly into CDMX and then take a bus somewhere . . . maybe Oaxaca? Points north? (We've already spent a lot of time in Zacatecas, so we wouldn't go THAT far north.) Thanks. Hope all is well with you!

    This one time I hoped on the Indios Verdes - Universidad line and a homeless tried running inside the train while the doors were closing. His tips of his fingers only made it inside of the train, and the rest of his body was on the other side of the doors. People started to freak out because the train started to move a few seconds after, and the man kept moving with the train. Luckily someone pulled the emergency handle in time, but this guy was literally a few feet away from getting smashed into the wall. It was crazzzyy.

    There is a big plan for the metro that started in the 60s, they contemplated to build I think 15 lines.
    At this moment there are no 10 and 11 lines because those are already covered by another transports as buses or “metrobús”. Taxis and a new cableway.
    Maybe If the city continues growing in people and distances, government will build those lines, but I don’t really now

    This lives up to the billing - it is one of the best CDMX Metro guides! I would rather speed across town in a train than suffer in traffic in an uber or taxi. It is safe - but it pays to be smart. My safety tips: don't stand on the platform and play on your fancy phone. You are advertising what you have and you are not paying attention to your surroundings. The highest risk time for pickpockets is when folks are squeezing into a car. Phones and wallets in pockets are a bad idea. If you cannot button the pocket or zip it up - keep your hand on the phone in the pocket at all times. I also carry a dummy wallet - with a photocopy of my ID, 1 credit card and just the cash I need for my outing. If I do get my wallet picked - the loss and aggravation are minimal.

      @davidostrowski679  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Great tips, I'm the same, I got an uber last week and instantly regretted it half an hour later still sitting in traffic! I had my wallet pick pocketed when getting on a bus in Kuala Lumpur so I'm extra careful these days!

    6:46 If you don't speak, no one is gonna notice if you're not mexican. In Mexico, we have all the type of skin colours, even if it's true that full blonde, redhair, asian or black people are hard to find, it doesn't suprise us when we see a mexican like that. When we say "don't look like a tourist", we don't say "change your look", but to change your actions (although it might help in some specific cases, for example if you're wearing something that yelss "I'M A TOURIST" like a flag of your country).
    Even if it is not thaaat bad if you look like a tourist at most of the cases, if you want to go unnoticed, I recommend:
    -Don't speak too loud in your language. Here we love to gossip, and people love to hear others conversation, for better or worse, so if we hear you speaking "weird", you're going to be noticed immediatly.
    -Don't take a lot of photos. You may find a lot of people, mexican and not mexican, taking photos on interesting things, like buildings, monuments, even in the subway, but if you're trying to go undercover, don't take photos of everything you see.
    -Act natural. Move like you use to walk in your homeland (just a little bit quick, especially in the subway and crowded streets, most mexicans always are in a hurry), if you walk like lost, or looking everything like a kid in Disneyland, scamers and pickpockets are going to notice it.
    -At last, be aware of where you are. If you feel you're in a safe place, a few people around, see a lot of tourist, you may down your guard a little bit, but in the subway or crowded places, always act defensively, CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
    With that, a very few people are going to notice if you're a tourist.

    A mistaken belief that foreigners have and that Holywood has instilled in them is that all Mexicans look in a specific way, so much so that the guy in the video says that it is obvious that he does not look like a Mexican! Well, being a Mexican I tell him that in Mexico there are many people who look like him, in fact his appearance is quite common and ordinary to see him on the street in Mexico, he could only identify himself as a foreigner when listening to him speak, Mexico is very diverse speaking of race , being Mexican is a nationality not a race, affirming that all Mexicans are equal is equivalent to saying that being American (USA) is a race when we know that this country is also racially very diverse, in Mexico there are blond people with blue eyes, people of African descent, indigenous people or native-americans, mestizos, and neither is more Mexican than the other.

    Please explain why British don’t pronounce the letter T???

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Herman Gallegos hi Herman, great question! I'm actually an English Teacher. Not pronouncing the t (usually in the middle of end of words) is called a glottal stop which is a common attribute of particularly London accents (where I'm from) such as Cockney or Estuary English. Received Pronunciation (which the Queen uses) generally doesn't include glottal stops.
      I hope that helps!

    I recommend you go to FuturaCDMX in el Centro Historico goo.gl/maps/yKYNCDipoh52 It recently opened and it's an interactive museum showcasing Mexico City's history since the Aztecs. It has an impressive scale model of the entire city that has amazing accuracy. They also have all kinds of maps and photos from centuries ago and they compare the city with other great metropolis form around the world. I’m sure you’ll come out very satisfied and learn a ton. I'm not sure if they have the information in English so you might want to check on that. You can also visit Calle Regina which is a very quaint pedestrian street one block away.

      nacho jimenez I'm not sure how this is relevant as I put this at the bottom of the screen in text if I remember correctly as I said the wrong word when filming.
      It's great that after spending hours filming and editing you feel the need to single out one minor, irrelevant mistake

    • @nachojimenez2420
      @nachojimenez2420 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeez dude, calm down. I thought it would be helpful to people learning Spanish. I didn't see the text.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      nacho jimenez it's not defensive, as I said I acknowledged I made a mistake when filming so put the text on the screen, I'm merely stating it's frustrating when viewers don't pay attention

    • @nachojimenez2420
      @nachojimenez2420 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, pal. Have it your way. "it's not defensive" I know you are but what am I? lulz

    Just an FYI - Persons 60 and older, with the INAPAM card (available to citizens and residents), ride free. You just show the turnstyle guard your card and they let you in. I believe students have the same arrangement, but with their student ID. The INAPAM card gets you into most INAH museums (including the castle in Chapultapec park) free as well.
