I wish I could have gone to art school, it was just too expensive, but now that I am older I have tried to pick it up again. There is so much info available to learn from now. Thank you Mary, you have greatly inspired me.

Beautiful! Again, I adore that you do dinosaurs. And interesting topic also. Yes. Reference is massively useful! I really need to use it more in my own work.
YES! Dino models. I have SO many and use them all the time. Have you looked into the Beasts of the Mesozoic toyline? He only has raptors so far but they are SUPER posable and he has done his best to be as accurate as possible in the sculpting. I absolutely recommend them for reference of the raptor body type.

Nice one, I would maybe look at dromaeosaur wings again, the primaries seem to be not really connected to the second finger, making it look like the they are mostly coming out of the wrist.

I really love the topic you've chosen to discuss during your painting! (And the process of watching you paint in monochrome was really great, too!) It's nice to hear positive things about using references, and different ways to use them, too.

Mary, I'm completely in love with everything about this video! I LOVE dinosaurs for one, so that drew me in, but your discussion on improving upon reference was just wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing this!

hi ! nice to see you for the first time. In my work as an illustrator I don't make realistic illustrations but very stylised ones. So I don't have this problem of references, But i need it anyway to understand the reality before "stylising" it, and a good source is also the documentaries that you can watch on the internet and make some sceen shots. it's often more dynamic than the regular google pictures. Bye and thank you for your amazing drawings !

Yes, I agree! It's always important to base your abstractions in reality. Documentaries are awesome for movement! All the best xoxo

Never seen a colour that changes like that, very interesting. About the Halzkaraptor is kind of in a boring position I still think it came out very pretty. I like that you're very carefull with your refrences. :)
When it comes to refrences it's often something you need. Like if you'ee stuck on a project and have no ideas lift then refrences is a lifesaves - but when people just copy someone elses drawing it ends up being the person copying who losses on this part, not the creator. Of course if the person claims the drawing as it's own then it's bad, but if the person just uses it for personal use then they just wont improove at all. They just show they can copy a drawing.
By the way if you'll ever dab into paleoart again perhaps some pterosaurs or gorgonopsids would be interesting?
