It's great to watch all these old videos again, with the planes who have been by our side for so long now. That makes me pretty nostalgic :)
Love the dog, back in the 70s my dog often flew with me, barked & barked during take offs & landing... we finally figured out he was barking at cows around the airport. Got to have that if for no other reason than the dog.

In VR this one is so crazy good! Never had this before, the first time a plane really gave me the sensation of height in my stomach. Not sure what causes this, either the stunning view or the weaving of the plane, but this is by far the best plane for sightseeing in VR.
It sure is. I've had a few hours in it flying VR and it really is impressive - but the stalls are downright dangerous, if not deadly!

Nice. The option to have a dog and/or cat on the right side seat is enough to make me want to buy it! I sure wouldn't want to bring my cat onto an airplane with me in real life though. He'd be walking all over everything and sitting in the way of the panel, just like he does when I'm on my flightsim 😀
Always find your reviews very helpful.the length of the videos isn't a problem in fact your quick kick the tires and light the fires is the main reason. I want to know if the aircraft/scenery is worth the money. The rest like what all the switches do I can find out in my own time and have fun doing it. If like this one you take longer that's fine. It's still the same helpful unscripted interesting video. Don't let time constraints worry you Av, it was a very unbiased interesting post
OrbX version is payware now apparently - I just checked. Maybe that's why the GotFriends model is now payware? In any case, if you're invested in the PMS50 GTN750, the logical choice would be the GotFriends version as it is supported in-cockpit and in-cockpit WTT mode.
Orbx one always was, jonx made the freeware then joined gotfriends and they revamped it totally

That bug in the Orbx one still hasn't been fixed since SU5, I still can't, from cold and dark turn on the transponder, it just doesn't work and they have never fixed it as far as I am aware of! I might buy this one instead so I can get ATC to stop screaming at me to input my transponder code. I never expected Orbx to leave something like that to just sit and not rework the aircraft for paying customers. Good thing I bought it on the cheap!
The view from the cockpit in the Orbx version is quite restricted compared to the Gotfriends version which is important as the aeroplane is supposed to be an observation platform. I totally agree with having an autopilot too, the ability to get an in flight coffee is imperative.

I bought the GotFriends version. I love it. I can't think of a better sight-seeing plane. Realistic or not, I'm glad it has a decent top speed of 130kts on the level and she'll happily chug along at 90-100 on 50%. Great machine 👍

yoooo I know this airport! I learned to fly out of there in real life! Due to the noise ordinance on Orcas left traffic patters for runway 34 are not allowed btw ;) great vid!
This aircraft looks like a spaceship you’d see in No Man’s Sky.
It remembers me more to the one shown in the movie Oblivion.
I think mine is from the market place and has a nice golden retriever doggy in the footwell of the co-pilot seat..................

Knowing GotGravels tuning of aircrafts alone very well... The choice is here is easy, plus their version looks to be just better quality over all, not that the Orbex one is terrible, it looks alright but GotFriends clearly went a step or even two above, and thats what we have come to expect from them. I do have some slight dealings with GotGravel on other projects so take it for what it is... But I think this video summed it up without doing so directly. :) Slight because I have not been as involved as I would have liked... all on me.
Will probably pick this one up at some point. Right now MSFS is being unstable for me but it will probably sort it self out somehow...

My Version shows only Orcas Island....is there an newer version on the market...?

Nice to see the Optica getting some more love. I thought Orbx is supposed to be a good developer. How can you mess up the performance numbers when it's one of your main objectives as a serious developer?

Would you have to shout clear prop on a shrouded prop? I have the Orbx version but I am going to buy this one. In VR the Orbx one is mind blowing.

I keep losing track of how many Opticas there are...
Due to the number of liveries available on these and the freeware version, I'd say there are more of these than the original aircraft (only three, I believe, due to a factory fire that halted production). I really enjoy the freeware version. Not sure either of these are worth the extra but willing to be proved otherwise.
I would just like to point out that I was the original developer of the Freeware version. Now that I'm part of Got Friends and we have remastered this version off of the Freeware base, the Freeware one will be discontinued, and no further updates will come in the future. As this remastered edition is Payware, it allows us to provide steady updates, Xbox support, and more. Thank you for your support on the Freeware throughout the last year! 🙏
