How much watt it draws during the tests and running a built in game test?

    • @modstek
      @modstek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

It's drawing alot of power I wish I had a way to measure it accurately. If I was to leave it the setup as it is it would probably need the 1100 watt upgraded power supply hp has for the system. Obviously not a Ryzen alternative system but more like if you had this z800 this is what you could do with it.

      300-350 with a 75w GPU.

    • @bill_clinton697

I used to have one of these systems as my main. With dual Xeon X5660, 176 GB DDR3, and a GTX 1080 8GB, the peak power draw I could get it up to was 600w. Idle was about 180-220w and normal gaming loads were about 300-400w. Though power consumption figures can vary greatly depending on your GPU(s), CPU(s), RAM, and drive configurations.
Take an example of a low power consumption figure. The Z800 in this scenario is powered by a single E5620 Xeon, 4 GB of RAM, Quadro FX 1800, and a single HDD. Idle was 90.4w and load was 157w.

I've have a Z820 for 5 years and love the old thing. I watched the video to see the paint job. Yours was in rough condition at the start. My case is still almost pristine so I don't need to paint it, but I love the way your 800 looks after painting. But man, you are an artist with a can of spray paint. No way I could do that, but I think I could find a local auto body shop to paint it for me.

They are great machines! I think the power supply rating might be a bit off mine was supposed to be 800watt but bogged down quite considerably. No shame in messing up a paint job I've resanded many because of runs or what not. Feels good looking back man I did that 😃 thanks for the comment

My dad gifted me one of these (used to work for Avid). The specific desktop was used to do some of the rendering for Toy Story 3 as well as edit all the 2010 mens olympic hockey footage. Instead of selling it for pennies on the dollar I’d love to upgrade it into a nice gaming PC. Wondering if it’s worth it.

❤ I have the following: HP Z400, Z600, Z620, Z800 (dual processors in the z6x0 & z800 models). These machines never stop working. Compatibility with new tech is the only issue, strong for most things but not NVME in the Z600 and Z800 (you can use clover or something like that to boot and use NVME). In reality, the real limiting issue is the SATA2 bus but there are ways around it ... and in most real world needs it isn't necessary ... a SSD drive does fine. That was a lot of work painting that unit. I like it! Yet I wouldn't do it just because I (try) to keep the covers the side. If you do an NVME adaptations please post a video. 😀

Like the work a lot, I've got the same Workstation as a second PC and it's running smoothly.
The only things I'm quite bummed about are the costs per upgrade:
    - You wanna upgrade/substitute the PSU? That's a bummer, an OLD / refurbished PSU goes from 245 - 345$ (from 880w to 1100w) - tho if you're into soldering / PSU hacking there are cheaper alternatives by using another PSU inside the old one.
    - RAM, ddr3 is going back in price, if you wanna max out the available ram, well. That's pricey 35 - 40$ per slot (8 gigs)
    - CPU, if you wanna go for a high-end CPU (x5690) unless you buy a refurbished CPU from china (which still costs 50$ per CPU) you won't really be able to find good deals.
    - Motherboard, if you have faulty ram buses (i got 2 faulty buses) and you wanna consider a refurbished one, well. Expect to pay from 140$ to 200$
So.. even if you got it for free, unless you just wanna upgrade a little bit it might get kinda pricey.
Last but not least, I do like a lot the cyberpunkish vibe, sadly you won't be able to see it as the aluminum panel will be covering the side (i might consider adding a custom cut plexiglass panel) with extra plastic mounts (still need to think the design tho).
May I ask which components you decided to sand?

You're slackin buddy. No on-screen scrubby dubby or side panel mods? By the way, normally I get notifications when you upload. Not this time. Kinda dig what you do with old pc's. Now if gpu prices could come back down to earth, with a reasonable availability, the Modstek world would be a happier place.
For the record, I got an HP Pavillion 500-336 for free last summer. Came with an i3-4130. Hp was nice and specifically listed all the cpu's that will work in this system. I'm eye-ballin an i7-4790...do you think the stock cooler would be sufficient from i3 to i7? It's an 84w processor.
I keep looking at the gtx 1650 low profile card for this system but if you find one for sale, yeah, it's a little overpriced so I'll wait a bit longer. I know a psu upgrade would be a good idea because stock is 250/300w.

Here in the uk one of those is between 500 and 700 pounds which is probably somewhere between 650 and 1000 dollars and that’s without a gpu and the current state of the market surrounding Gpus is atrocious it just makes PC gaming not even a viable option any more, not when you can get a ps5 for 400 pounds or 550 dollars, there isn’t a chance you could build a pc that will rival the ps5 for anywhere close to that price, in fact I challenge you to do a video on it, don’t get me wrong I’m a pc gamer myself but for the time being until the market sorts itself out console is the way to go
