  • Welcome back! We're almost at the end of the season. Today, I'm going to talk about episode 7 of Silo, the Apple TV+ series based on the novels by Hugh Howey. The episode is called "The Flamekeepers", and it's a game-changer for the show. In this episode, Juliette, the engineer turned sheriff, discovers a hidden group of rebels who fought against the Silo's elite and tried to preserve the memory of the outside world. She also learns more about her mother's past and her connection to the mysterious relics. But she's not the only one looking for answers. Sims, the head of security, is watching her every move and has a sinister plan in mind. What will Juliette find out? Who are the Flamekeepers? And what is Sims hiding? Find out in my review of Silo episode 7, "The Flamekeepers". Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more videos like this. See you soon!

Juliette's Dad's story is my favorite subplot. He's so sympathetic, and does a good job to contrast from the kind of tale where everyone is secretly a bastard. He has the very relatable flaw of being meek in the face of adversity, while the choices he makes come from a deep concern for what will be best for his family. Ian Glen really pulls it together with his performance.

He definitely gives off that vibe. He seems like a decent person who was forced into doing some questionable things.

I think the dad took the implant out of his wife. He was already doing the Silo’s dirty deeds - I can’t imagine he’d have the heart to do it to his wife.

Good theory. He would have to explain to the higher-ups how the birth control failed though. Still, I could see him breaking the rules on her behalf and perhaps convinced the powers that be that he's going to keep an eye on things.

So many backstories revealed this episode. I believe Hannah was allowed to have two kids because her husband knew a lot so he held some leverage over the people in charge. It was more that he was rewarded with two kids than that Hannah was alowed to have them. Also, I think he knew about the cameras the same way other people knew about some form of surveilance around the Silo. There are quite a few rumors about people being watched going around. We heard from more than one person how there are people watching. I think everyone is aware to some point but they just decide to ignore it or they justify it as something that is done for the good of the Silo.

My first observation is that the "The Flamekeepers" is a pretty badass name for a group of rebels 😇 But that excitement quickly soured when I put together that Judgement not only had fairly extensive records on the relics, but that they also knew (and allowed, apparently) some of them to be passed along and tracked (the watch, Pez dispenser, etc) and by whom (George, Regina). AND that they seem to know who some of the Flamekeepers are (seen via their actions with Gloria and of the secret eugenics policy). So is Sims secretly sympathetic and/or even a member of the Flamekeepers? Or is he Regina's terrifying "The Man Who Knows Everything" from episode 6, simply allowing them to exist as a source to catch bigger fish -- or maybe even as a controlled outlet for social unrest pressure?
Also LOL at 3:07 🤣. You can tease just a good as the episode 3 writers! Tip of the hat for another great recap :)

I always look forward to your comments, ravenlord. Sometimes there are hints that he may be a sympathetic character who can be turned, or perhaps our impression of his intentions is being manipulated through the story to make him appear more sinister than he actually is. As you already stated, he also lets certain things slide that you expect a more extreme response from. What's up with that? Im leaning towards calculated measures to catch more dissenting (Siloers?). I'm still not sure about him. Wolf in sheep clothing or the inverse? lol
