It sounds weird also because a note is missing : the D note on the fifth string should be played 3 times time before hitting the F# on the fourth. Same thing when you go down to C and E.
After playing the guitar for 13 years I felt it was time to finally learn this master piece of a song. Great work with the breakdowns of each section! Keep up the good work!
Yes. For me I can't pick that fast without losing all control. I can't really find any exercises that actually work to speed up my picking. It seems most have problems with the fretting hand. Not me I'm like Paul Gilbert with my fretting hand but Lil Wayne with my picking hand.
@@drewjohnson4794 it’s been a year so i’m sure u found a work around but for me, making sure i have my bottom palm rested in the same place helps me get better with picking!!
Your One of the top 5 Instructors on YT, maybe top 3. I so appreciate what you do brother. Thank you so much. I've gotten to be a better guitarist just by learning the tunes from you and practicing them very slowly and consistently. These are the keys to success . At 58 years old anything is possible. I Wish I had youtube when I was a teen. I'd be incredible.
Great lesson as ever, Carl. I wish I had discovered your channel years ago. My guitar technique and song list has exponentially improved since I found your online tutorials. I find I just really, massively enjoy playing on a guitar again. Cheers mate. 🤟😖
If you're in the mood for golden oldies how "Since I've been lovin you" or "Achillies Last Stand" by Zepp and or "Radar Love" by Golden earring please.
REQUEST : Please make a lesson for Iron Maiden - Journeyman. I had been searching in it TH-cam and never got a proper lesson. And thanks for all your works. You are by far the best Guitar tutor in TH-cam. Good Luck
It was a great lesson, but not quite got the timing on the verse. On the original recording it's played with hammer ons on the power chords and a slightly different rhythm.
It's a lot to ask, but I'd love it if you were ever willing to do some melodic metal stuff, either Scar Symmetry, or In Flames. I get that this stuff is way out of playable range for a lot of people though. I'd just like to see you do some really technical stuff.
I can’t play that more difficult chord where you add the A for some reason I’ve been trying and if I do it my hand can’t stretch to the point where if my finger is on the third fret of the A the open D string won’t ring out with it
Up the Irons Carl! Your the man. If you see this, please try and upload a lesson for "That Song" by Big Wreck. There is no real definitive version on the Tube and I know you'd nail it. Really want to cover it this year and have used many of your lessons in the past to practice other tunes the band has covered.
what a really nice guy you are, what a great accent (what area is that from?) what a great channel and great ideo this is, many thanks for your tuition!
This is my new religion. I'm finding it a lot easier to alternate pick the into rather than use all down strokes. When I started playing, I recall a vidow John Petrici posted saying you should really focus on alternate picking where possible for efficiency sake. Is there any good reason why alternate picking isn't the right way to attack the intro on this song?
Can you do some Iced Earth please. Such a great band and almost no lessons. Burning Times, Stormrider or Desert Rain would be great. BTW Thank you for all your lessons.
I can't pick fast enough to play this song at 100 speed. How do I control my pick hand? Every time I try and pick fast at a certain speed my hand becomes more like a twitching frappe machine. It's either slow and controlled or fast and wild. What do I have to practice just picking 8 hours a day? Ugggh it's so annoying. Any pointers anyone? I've been playing for 20 years. I can play all sorts of SRV licks and Zeppelin style but at a certain picking speed I lose all control. Someone help me please I know I can do it because I see 10 year olds all over YT who can shred.
Play more metal. The main riff for this and the Master of Puppets intro are both excellent for practicing your down picking. The key is to find the right bpm to practice it at. If you practice too fast, you won't learn anything. If you practice too slow, you also won't learn anything. Take a metronome and find the highest tempo you can play the riff completely clean with no mistakes. Then slowly increase the bpm by small increments until you can play the riff completely clean at the new tempo. Rinse and repeat and you will eventually be able to play up to speed. Don't get discouraged if it takes a while, all guitar players had to go through the process of learning to play faster.
If you are anything more than a beginner-level guitar player you should be able to figure out Sweet Leaf very easily. Just play around with power chords and you should be able to find the right ones.
Flyin' Ryan Of course. But if Karl doesn't get around to teaching the solo, there are software programs available to slow the song down without changing its pitch, for example: bestpractice.sourceforge.net/ Also bear in mind that Tony Iommi usually played a guitar that was tuned WAY down.
one of the greatest riffs and songs in heavy metal history!
Most definitely...
ehhh
You are exactly right!!!
This whole album made heavy metal history
@@borritoman_6782 agreed. it is by far my fave Maiden album. Bruce's first with the band and Clive's last.
Ride the lightning, breed, No Quartar and now Number pf the beast. Carl you're killing me. Keep the classics coming.
Never realized how weird the intro sounds without the bass, really shows Steve's importance in the bans. Great lesson
HaliniSnow the intro is completely awesome. You must be a millennial.
@@crystaldavis6169 he didn't say it wasn't.. He said it sounds odd without the bass
@@maximilliansus6487 ikr lol

You make it look easy. This song is more complicated than it sounds. And so many changes. Dave Murray and Adrian Smith are so freakishly awesome.

I’ve yet to try an Iron Maiden song out of fear of sucking bad. Well gotta try sometime. What better Maiden song to start with

@@Bean-hm4ob thanks. I have gotten better at guitar since I have posted this but still afraid of maiden lol. The Tropper huh? I’ll give it a try
Carl you should do more Iron Maiden. Like Wasted Years or Aces High.

Thank you . Because it make it easier for me to follow.
Damn, its hard to palm mute the verse at speed. I fall apart at around 185 beats per minute. Brutal. My hats off to your skills.
Easier mixing in alternate picking.

YES and great lesson
In case you missed it, he recently made a video with hallowed be thy name
