I tried my freshman year, I’ll admit it. That’s when Best Day Ever dropped and I refused to listen to it and was just hatin just to hate (that was just who I was back then). About 8 months later, this shorty I was dating ended up doing a turntable mix for me of Mac Miller song to try to put me on, and because I love Turntable scratches I’m general. She was successful, and been a Mac fan ever since. Didn’t realize how his sound was legit hip-hop til I heard scratches on the songs 😂😂

Mac is the first celebrity I’ve actually cried for, dude got me through some rough times in my life. Ended up seeing him on his Good: AM tour and shared a joint with him while he rapped on stage. He was such a kind soul. To this day my 2 year old will ask to listen to this tiny desk concert and just bob is head to the beat. Mac is a vibe and every age of person gets it.

Mac was down to earth and relatable. His music (and 2009 specifically) speaks to the masses, almost everyone can relate or empathize.
I listen to it when I’m thinking of my dad, or a few of my old home boys that I’ve lost. It reminds me of watching and living through there struggles and not being able to help them in any meaningful way. They were beautiful flawed people, and almost everyone has friends or family (past or present) that are flawed and yet still beautiful.

He also had the most growth for a white rapper. Starting with KIDS and BSP fresh out of high school and getting to where he ended as fast as he had is incredible.
Fr his whole career was nothing but GROWTH with every project. Every time we could see he was a little more mature and a little wiser. Then we got this album swimming which was a masterpiece.
And that's why it hurt so much because the dude was reaching new heights and it was so fucking dope to watch. Like some proud friends, we were like damn dude is doing something with this shit.

He loved hip hop with all his heart too. My first ever concert was Mac, over ten years ago now. This man changed so many lives, inspired an entire generation of independent artists.

Mac Miller is In the band rather than singing/rapping Over the band. And the band is awesome for every song. Mac's timing for the clean way he holds or ends notes is so controlled. Vocal lines are exciting but so lean, not one wasted 'showing off' note.

I just did a Pittsburg tour. Blue Slide Park, Frick Park Market, the murals, Daily Bread... it was really dope and really sad. I agree with Scru. He's the white rapper that I think transcended that label because he became one of the purest artists and not someone who exploited the culture for the wrong reasons. He is def missed and should be. Just so you know more details about 2009. The producer of the track Eric G said "Mac just paced around the room for a little bit with the beat playing. Then he did the first whole half of the song in a pitch-black booth with no phone or anything. I don’t even know how he did it, and for it to be so meaningful. I saw him the next day and he played it for all his close friends and everyone said they cried." Mac had to be convinced to keep it on the album. If you look up mac miller 2009 discreet podcast you'll see it.

Been a fan od yours since 2019. When Mac left us, it legit felt like losing a brother. I already lost 2 of my older brothers to drugs, so these news about Mac killed me. I didn't get into mac until after he passed and I think it honestly hurts more than if I had been listening to him while he was still around. not only am I mourning him as an artist and person, but I also end up mourning the fact that I missed out on so much. especially since circles was the first album of his that I listened to in full and that record was a window to so much hope and artistry that we'll never get to experience with him
Glad you found him though, a lot of us grew with him and he became a part of our lives. I was in my junior year of high school when I heard "Nike's on my feet" and became the "snapback kid" at school because of his influence, he helped me though high school when I was changing the most and becoming mature, I kept all those hats but after he passed I slowly stopped wearing them.
