While Pelé does have two more World Cup titles then Messi which is a team accomplishment Messi’s individual accomplishments comes second to none this enabling Messi as the GOAT. And this World Cup shows exactly where his supporting France team falls short. I don't think it will getting any better soon. Because players like Pogba, Griezman, Kante with who Mbappe won the 2018 World Cup (and also Benzema, if he is part of the team) will be much older the next World Cup. However, today's game of football has been elevated to much higher standard of play. The competition is extremely fierce with plenty of talented players across the globe. With Messi finally realizing his dream as a World Cup champion to go along with his other career accomplishments, he's undoubtedly elevated to G.O.A.T. status.

He's just too much of a wildcard and unlike the myth that Pele was somehow even the best player in that legendary Brazil side, Messi actually is and was always the best player at every team he played for and has been more times than not the deciding factor, throw in the fact that football has gotten more athletic and tactical in Messi's time than in Pele's it is simply amazing how Messi and Ronaldo maintained the level they had in the last decade... @@MrX-il2jt Just because a player has more trophies doesn't mean he's better, not only that but as I said, football evolves, the game of Pele's time just isn't as fast, physical (they made more dangerous tackles, that's it and it's not the same as intensity) nor is it anywhere near as tactical as the modern game, scoring two hundred goals in the championship isn't the same as scoring the same amount in the Premier league, Pele's goal tally is impressive but Messi and Ronaldo's goal tallies are insane. Technically, what makes Messi the GOAT is the fact that, besides the natural football gifts he has (speed, technique, passing, composure, etc.), he shares the traits of both Pele and Maradona:
- he oficially scored as much as Pele, assisted as much as Maradona
- he is as consistent as Pele, as flamboyant as Maradona, without cheating
- he played and succeeded at the highest level as both Pele and Maradona
- he broke as many records, won as many trophies and awards as both of them... combined
- he did all that against top opposition at every level in CR7, Real Madrid, top European national teams
- unlike Pele and Maradona, he always had huge pressure to match them both in terms of expectations
Personally, like many of you, I knew he is the GOAT shortly after his debut. He didn't need the WC at 35, yet he won it like Maradona did, being the key player in a hard-working Argentina squad.

To be fair, if we talk about how much Pele contribute in 3 WC Brazil has won, he only contribute for 2 of them. The 2nd WC that Brazil won in 1962 barely has him in it, since he was injured during 1962 WC. Garrincha and Vava did all the work in that 1962 WC.

I am saying this because Everyone saw how good was young Ronaldo, his knuckle balls and long range shots. You also need talent to do that not just hardwork. And most important of all, his skills and dribbling was also very good at that time.
And for young Messi, he was a good dribbler but not a good playmaker and average freekick taker. He evolved so much from when we seen him young and now they are almost two different Messi's apart from dribbling and finishing although he is slow now.
