Refinishing Outdoor Rocking Chairs | DIY Whitney

Outdoor wood furniture can get pretty worn with age. I took some rocking chairs and restored them with semi-transparent stain and finish. This made them look better and sealed them to make them better protected against the weather. When staining old furniture, you need to sand it well, which takes time. Semi-transparent stain reminds me more of watered down paint than it does stain. It will hide some of the wood grain, but it also will help cover up imperfections/damage, which can be good for older, weathered wood.

120 sandpaper
Valspar Neutral Base Semi-transparent Exterior Wood and Sealer: low.es/3kdTk1l (color: river oak)

I used the spray timber deep penetrating oil on a rocking chair I only sanded once and it actually worked pretty well. It was dark but you could still see the wood grain. Fun video

why not try Melange One paint? self leveling primer and top coat all in one? just a thought , hate to see you work so hard on just sanding:(

I'll keep that in mind if I do it again! I didn't realize the semi-transparent stain I used would be more like paint. I was hoping more of the wood would show through, hence all the sanding. 😅
