Clients deserve good representation from someone they trust, whether their lawyers believe them or not. Don't forget, sometimes they really are innocent. Until a reliable lie-detector is invented, this is still the best way!

However, I will attempt to give a very short answer! No, the two accused will not receive legal aid if they wish not to be represented by a solicitor or barrister. They can, if they so wish, conduct the litigation in person without lawyers, whether they plead guilty or chose to fight a trial. If they wish to have a lawyer, of course they must have one, whether they plead guilty or not just as those EDL members (if that is correct) who have burnt down a mosque should so be entitled.

Ugizzat, while I agree with you that probably a majority of those charged with crimes have committed the offence in question, you are wrong to suggest that the lawyers encourage them to plead not guilty in order to line their own pockets. Firstly, most clients choose to plead not guilty, lying to their lawyers, in an attempt to escape punishment! Secondly, many law firms firms make a loss on the legal aid work, which are subsidized by other areas of law. It is not well paid.

I am not sure how you conflate legal aid with what happened in Woolwich. You clearly have no experience whatsoever in the Criminal Justice System. This little reply box is too short to explain 800 years of legal history, concepts of justice, democracy and the rule of law. If you had any idea I do not think you have even dared ask such a question.
