Rewatched the scene with this in mind, and holy hell. I recognised the voice of the dolls despite its higher pitch! She really is a chameleon. EDIT: Despite growing up on Shrek and rewatching it and gaining a new appreciation for it as an adult on its 20th anniversary, I didn't put two and two together despite also having played REmake in October of the End of the World as we Knew It (2020). I guess it's because I went with Jill on my first time round, and when I played my first Chris playthrough in 2022, it was a long while since I saw Shrek.
The HD Remake was the first RE game I ever played, and I’m in love with its use of fixed camera angles-every angle feels intentional, purposeful, and eerily beautiful. The only thing I regret about my experience with this game is that I already knew Barry was supposed to be a good guy, so I knew I was “supposed” to trust him. If I’d known nothing about the story going in, the choice to trust him or not (in the final Lisa Trevor encounter) would have been a difficult and tense moment; I envy any player that went into this game blind.
When I first got REmake for the GameCube it was my first time playing it and I went in blind. To say that I crapped my pants when I first saw a Crimson Head is a huge understatement. They replaced Lickers as my favorite enemy.
The worst mistake Capcom did with the RE remake was releasing it as a Gamecube exclusive, I am a Chilean and everywhere I saw in South America was households in which the PS1+2 dominated during that era, if Capcom had released it at a later date for the PS2 like they did with 4 it would have been a success
Yes it most definitely would have sold on PS2. We would have at least gotten a RE2 remake better than the one we ended up with. My only gripe is all the remakes be doing too much. Even the RE1 remake
@@kewldude7825 gamecube discs hold less data than normal DVDs the PS2 used. so space isnt an issue. but the specs might have been. however they could have ported it, the PS2 was capable enough, just would have taken more time
i appreciate all the editing, research, history and entertainment factor here. most "retrospectives" are just people retelling us what happens in the game - which if you've already played, you know, and if you haven't, it's all spoilers. finally, some perspective
been looking forward to the next one in the series for ages - I regularly watch them all on repeat. Especially when I get in bed. Your sense of humour is so good. Excited for this at 1hr 30!!!
No fucking way. Thought you'd never post again. Found you yesterdy and binged all the RE retrospectives and then saw you hadn't posted for 8 months 😭. I felt so sad and now this outta nowhere I'm so happy 😭😭
Iirc Lisa indeed was confusing people with her parents so it's on the realm of possibilities that she just took some guy's face thinking it was her father
I have been introduced to your retrospective series recently thanks to the youtube algorithm, and I have to say that I am very impressed with the quality of reviews that you produce. While your structure is the same as when you started the retrospective series a few years ago, your analysis and comedic timing, as well as the art to accompany said moments, has drastically improved. REmake was my first mainline game and my second RE game, right beside Outbreak Which i play religiously since 2019 on the fan recreated servers. I cannot wait to see your take on Outbreak, as it is such a great game when played with friends, not so much NPC's, though its still a fun game if you just turn the AI off. You've given a retrospective analysis that i pretty much agree with. While REmake is my favorite mainline RE game next to CV, there are a few quality of life things that it misses, like the abilty to use an herb when interacting if your inventory is full. I am also glad to see you share a similar sentiment with the new offered control scheme in the HD Remaster. Although it isnt for me, i wont say i am against the controls, but it definitely makes it so youre breaking zombie kneecaps with how quick you go around them like a Basketball player schmoving like youre the team point guard. And usually, if someone is intimidated by the Tank controls, I will generally say they should give the alternative controls a shot, but it might take away from the expereince that the game is trying to give from its original 2001 Remake. Anyways, sorry for the long rant. I am super glad to come across this channel and these retrospectives in particular. I really hope youre able to get even more views, because the work you do is absolutely astounding. Amazing job, and keep up the excellent work! P.S. if you ever wanna play Outbreak online, lemme know, would love to see another RE fanboy join the scene.
They do get annoying on a first play through when you are basically going does this key work here or here & you basically loop round the mansion two or three times trying to figure it out. I feel like the way that the HD ports on PC for the other games do it where you can skip the transitions is helpful when you are doing this whole looping thing. But when you know where you're going they aren't bad at all but I do think a button to skip them would help for the stressful headache that is being a bit lost. I know it annoyed me more in Code Veronica though as Code Veronica has those doors that go ba bum ba bum & have the controller vibrate & you have to wait what feels like forever which is annoying but the other games they feel nice & swift better than a boring load screen like in Fallout games.
Always love seeing your retrospectives come out. Your content is always great and super well done. I tend to forget you drew my pfp because I always think of you as the RE Retrospective guy, lol. Personally, this was how I experienced Resident Evil 1. Despite RE being one of my favorite game series, I've never actually played the original, and I had a great time with the remake.
And the best thing about REmake (which, imho, makes it the best REmake, even to this day): NOTHING WAS REMOVED. Everything was expanded upon. No garbage "we wanted to include spiders but then it turned out to be too difficult, so you can have this re-skinned version of a zombie instead" or "yeah, dead factory was a cool and kinda unique level but we wanted to re-use assets from REmake2, so here is generic sterile laboratory # 14!" Edit: I have not played REmake4 yet, so I don't know if they scrapped stuff there.
Maybe I'm weird, but I've always preferred Chris's playthrough over Jill's. Despite being harder and slightly more inconvenient, I actually prefer the challenge of six inventory slots. Though I do wish Chris would have been given a weapon better than the shotgun similar to Jill's grenade launcher. I also prefer Chris's story, as it sets up Chris's most consistent and defining characteristic in the whole series. Chris has a lot of empathy, as this is shown when he blames himself for Richard's death. But what I also appreciate is the added scenes between chris and wesker that Jill doesn't have. Makes Chris and Wesker's bond seem stronger and makes weskers betrayal all the more impactful.
What do you mean I found a Resident Retrospective series that isn't compete yet bc they're still making the videos?! My binge watch!! 😂 Finger-crossed once you're done you'll compile them into a nice 12 hour video! Keep up the good work!
I love that they kept the cheesy action movie repeat shot thing when you kill the Tyrant with the rocket launcher. It's classic. Also, I tried the alternate controls when I first played the HD Remaster on Steam. It was terrible. The original version of RE2 was my introduction to the series, so tank controls were already part of my repertoire and it was nice to get back to them after so long away.
35:49 - id have to say i was one of the people that wpuld die on that hill like you. But after i was on the other side of it with the Tomb Raider Remastered, id have to disagree when you say it destroys the game. And you can change that in the configurations anyway. Best of both worlds for everybody. (But yeah, the door transitions are bull 😂😂) Also, loved your vids... watched all of them in one day.
Touching on what you said in your conclusion, this is why I feel ANOTHER RE1 remake is unnecessary. The 2002 remake is not perfect, but it's still a wonderful love letter to the original - paying enough tribute to it, while still adding some QOL changes to make it more accessible to a modern audience. I only got into RE a few years ago, so I never had the opportunity to play the original - so to have this as an alternative to start my RE journey through playing the games? I'm grateful for it, and it's one of my faves in the series. Awesome retrospective, dude. I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts. :)
1:17:45 pushing crates was a prevelant occurrence in early 3d gaming. It was pretty novel at the time to be able to interact with the environment like that. If they were going to modernize it like half-life 2 did vs HL1 by putting a new spin on the floating bridge puzzle that would be cool. But either way. It would be weirder to just remove that obstacle entirely.
i think the crates puzzle in the aqua ring is there because after you drain the water, you can't walk across them. so it takes longer to reach the roots to use v-jolt. the player can choose to fight plant 42 if they think it takes less time.
Forest appears if you Clear game as Chris and Jill on the same save file. If you want to avoid one dangerous zombie mode just use different save file for each character. Infinite handgun unlocks if you beat game under 5 hours. Director message unlocks even if you beat invisible enemy mode in very easy. Original Biohazard ps1 game had Hard written under Chris ID and Easy written under Jill ID but it was not in American version. So originally creators wanted players to know Jill was easier and Chris Harder.
This was such a well done and thorough analysis of this game. Your criticisms were so fleshed out and in depth that i sometimes wondered if you didn't like this game, but i realize that you were just giving it a fair critique so as to not leave anything out. I have watched so many youtubers discuss this game for almost two decades and I just now realized that most of them really left out where the game dropped the ball, so it was very eye opening to hear you discuss how this game doesn't live up to its predecessor's post-game modes or lack of replay value and i also agree that i felt the puzzle that replaced the life stages of a man was lacking. I love REmake but i never knew that the original had a remix of the camera angles and forest's discovery avaliable in a new playthrough. I'm so sad that REmake never implemented that. I loved how detailed this was. I can't wait to see how you feel about Zero. I could never get into that game, but i could never pin down why i didn't like it. I hope seeing your thoughts will enlighten me to how i felt myself.
As impressive as the realistic visuals of the RE Engine Titles since 7, i don't think any of those games will hold up as well graphically as Re 1 Remake has.
I find that you can consistently blow off zombie heads if you blast them when they’re about to land a grab. Paired with the loud shotgun makes it very stressful to do
I think this REmake shows why the RE2 & RE3 remakes fail to do the games justice. See RE2 redid all the story but didn't do it from understanding its flaws & strengths just a vague kinda remember the points from 20 years ago & just winged most of it leading to characters feeling off & the story being a messy mix of A & B for both characters. RE 2 Remake also completly changed the style of the game which kinda hurts its remake ability by changing the core soul of a game to appeal more to modern audiances the game you end up making feels like a bit of a shallow reinterpritation but RE2 Remake had people who understood the gameplay flaws perfectly & where able to improve it vastly even with the change in core they made it work so well that the Nostalgia will make old players miss the flaws in the story & new players don't have as much of a frame of reference & likely know from 5 & 6 & 4 that the story is a bit of an after thought & just enjoy the ride so they ignore the flaws as the gameplay is the core of the game. This allowed RE 2 Remake to despite being a bit of a hollow remake its outer shell was made of dense lead & thus was hard to dent without deep looking at the rusty parts to see the holes in it making it a well loved modern classic. However RE3 remake did this same thing but it had a few problems 1 it was rushed, 2 it was made by a more minor team that maybe wasn't the best suited to remake RE3 Nemesis & so the games story suffered & its pacing was broken. It also missed a few key locations & events & reused the Nest place from RE2 remake leading to a game that divides fans. It tells the RE3 Nemesis story terribly for the most part bar most of the Mercanaries (Carlos & Tyrol especially). But it mucks up the whole Nemesis & as a result feels more like it could be called anything else & change the characters names & it works perfectly as its own thing as its not very connected to Jill's original character which was very consistent till they made the Remake. But the game ain't bad its just terrible at being RE3 Nemesis Maybe had the team been given more time it could have been closer to RE2 Remake but alas it fails. Why RE4 Remake also succeeds is cause its just like RE 1 Remake it fixes the tone to be more serious & improves the dated graphics (which for RE4 aren't dated much) & it stands as a good remake. RE 1 Remake also added what had to be cut originally allowing it to breath better & work as the perfect replacement & is alone in this type. RE0 remake is unknown how much it changed from the N64 version as it was never released to us but we can assume some changes occurred to make it in line with RE1 Remakes well tone & story changes. I hope one day the N64 version is found & made playable as I know it has some changes to the formula which may have made it worse or better but we can never know unless we have the original unfinished version to compare it to. I'd rank the Remakes as follows RE1 replaces, Re2 is a great companion, RE3 is an alright racoon city story, RE4 is a more serious toned version of the original, RE0 is lost to time. Edit: this is on tank controls & all. I think RE2 & 3 remake should've used the classic formula. Also as someone who originally played the Resident Evil Remake with the alternate controls I can say they are the pain. I think the people who complained about the controls where the ones using the damn alternate controls. This makes fixed cameras pretty archaic because they hinder you. But if you use Tank controls well then the game is perfect. I wish that we get the next remake if its of Code Veronica in the style of Resident evil Remake as well it works as it is it just needs parts fixed up to make them not doom you. Like hints that the BOW gas rounds are best saved for a boss & then that the Steve thing is not made a pain then the game becomes perfect in balance compared to now. Also maybe remove some of the infinite zombie areas as well you don't need like some of them like the Moth thing should be dealt with by fire or something. I hate the damn moth room in Antarctica key to saving & to getting most key items because you find something on the bottom floor for the top floor but wait moths & thus you lose some health & are poisoned & maybe get a parasite thingy. Stupid moths. Anyway as someone who once didn't understand how amazingly balanced tank controls are I'd say they are perfect. Just use the D-pad not a Joystick as well its not helpful as it makes you kiss the walls but D-pads make you walk straight unless you point the side parts to turn so unlike a joystick where you might have a minor turn to the stick D-pads are for tank controls. Edit 2: on the difficulty of Chris thing I can back up your claim that it is horrible for new players. When I played it first I'd just finished the start of 0 a while back so I was still going like I should pick up everything & if I don't need it I can drop it down. This basically ruined my first play through & I gave up for months till I saw a video on TH-cam saying how Chris is basically hard mode so I came back in a party with friends who where playing fortnight or a COD game & we had banter & I started Jill's. I was terrified of Crimson heads & burnt every body I found & got through the game. I forget most of my play through but I know had they said Hard mode on Chris or given a description to him it'd have helped. Like Chris is a tank but he has little space for ammo & Jill is light & nimble or something. Also Jill does feel like playthrough one as it does more of the red herring stuff & has an easier time assuming you don't know what you need whilst Chris has less inventory meaning he is best saved for when you know what to do meaning you won't waste time & inventory on useless stuff. Also I feel like the save point at the start should have an item box close to it as well a new player might pick up everything & kinda soft lock themselves here unless they had an idea of the item box. I know this was my thought but after playing Jill I knew there was a Item box just down the hall past the dead guy with a camera & then on through the creppy hall with the cage & the cuffs on the wall. the little cupboard having a item box & Kerosene. I think you're right about the games map being very much easy to remember I've played it like what 3 or 4 times as Chris twice & Jill twice getting six endings (I cheated a bit by using a save to allow me to finish with Chris saved & finish without him saved in Jill & vice versa) One day I'll go back & get the last two endings but that'll be later. Also I want to add something for George Trevor I think a theory I heard explains why the guy who made the mansion wasn't able to escape saying he was possibly infected with the T-virus & so he was losing his memories. They then said maybe he is the Proto-type Crimson head which is the only thing I am kind eh on but him being infected would explain his odd behaviour & I guess if he died of starvation somewhere he mightn't have even been where the diary is & so couldn't escape. I had something else to add but it escapes me.
The story is better if you think about the idea that MAYBE Rebecca Chambers was working for wesker. He admired the young recruit, he had creepy pics of her in his desk. She came up with the idea of blowing up all of the evidence. Barry assumed wesker activated the self destruct but no, Rebecca. Re zero remaster has wesker mode, where Rebecca is his little mini valentine servant, easily a nod to the whole thing. Bravo team's chopper was obviously sabotaged but never once does Rebecca look into this in re zero. Neither did the rest of the team, but they probably wouldn't ever suspect the rookie anyways. Rebecca was Wesker's little accomplice
Og Re for the voice acting. I always look at it like this. Og-Someone telling you the story for the first time. It has mistakes and the flow is a little off. But you can tell they are really invested in it. REmake-Someone who has told this story a few times. Does enjoy it, but has now just started giving the cliff notes version. Told competently. but lacks anything worth remembering.
Me taking the piss out of "Greatest Remake" is that I saw ALOT of people pretty much confirm that they largely think so BECAUSE it just UPDATED the bells and Whistles along with making it look MORE pretty! I did see some criticism of DARING to update the script and making it LESS silly despite the fact them SAYING in the same breath that "they were trying to be serious and ended up being too comical instead!" I don't know, I think the only genuine HATERS of RER were just those who hate REMAKES in general! I don't LOATHE them by default, the ones I hate are LAZY cash grabs. But I do have my grips with RER such as it felt EXTENTED abit compared to the Original, I'm more referring to dealing with Lisa around when you go into the Caves! But that's a MINOR grip since I always get this version EVERY time it gets a rerelease (Have it on my PC, My Switch and pretty much my PS3 I keep around to play old PS1 and PS2 games since I can't play my PS3 games sans RER due to disc drive breaking LONG AGO, my PS4 well PS5 due to my PS4 dying on me two years ago! So got the PS5 to save TIME for IF it starts getting games I LIKE that are exclusive to it! So far the only EXCLUSIVE is Armored Core 6, FF16, FF7 Rebirth, and the RE4 & Dead Space Remakes! Ironic that both remakes came out around the same time frame as there ORIGINALS did and just like the OG I bought BOTH of them! They were my FIRST Horror games, As I was a baby who was scared of Horror till I hit my 20's when they came out and TOOK THE PLUNGE AKA they were on sale USED at gamestop, so I figured, if they sucked or I couldn't overcome my FEAR, I'll just return them.....I never return them should tell you they SUCCEED! I then just went about buying all OLD Horror like the RE OG Trilogy, new GOOD Survival Horror, I don't like the horror where I'm MAJORLY playing Hide and Seek with NO ability to even DEFEND myself! Though I do like to WATCH them! And I got into HORROR FILMS because of this! But Tangent aside! Other then THOSE, Everything else is just a PS4 game getting a PS4.5 treatment and Cyberpunk AFTER patching is just "A lucky accident") as even when GRIPS, I still LOVE this game. But then I love it like I love RE2 Remake! Despite their problems, they are GAMES, I HAD LOTS OF FUN and they STILL hold up to my standards of FUN years later! So I'm happy to come back to them, especially in droughts of games only holding my attention for 6 seconds! (This year alone other then remakes the only NEW games I think I got was Unicorn Overlord....I like the game as I like that genre and I love Ogre Battle which it's a spitual successor to plus Vanillaware is LOVE for me! But it's sad it's so DRY in new games catching my interest this year! Even later on I'm only looking at the new Mario and Luigi RPG! DQ3 is a REMAKE to my FIRST RPG so that's a definite, but still "A REMAKE!" so not anything NEW! hopefully something will come up) And yeah I hate when GOOD shit bombs! When that happens, it just gets used as FUEL by the "SUITS" to screw over the customers and just invites MESSES! I ESPECIALLY LOATHE when they pull the "Lack of sales means no one wanted it" (Funny how despite being a FAILURE like the Mega Man Legend games, it sure gets ALOT of remasters for the newest consoles! This always happens with ALOT of LEGENDS that failed on the BIG SCREEN but made GANGBUSTERS OFF of it! I hate that it feels like I HAVE to buy the game at the LARGE price tag on WEEK 1 DAY 1 just to "SHOW SUPPORT" and not LATER when I can afford it cause the suits are more concern with First week impressions then STAYING power!) I also get being on the gamecube MIGHT have hurt it because I'll admit DESPITE having the gamecube. Putting it and RE4 on that instead of on the system It's largely BEEN ON (Sony) kind of was a BAD MOVE because the fans were ON the Sony console and not many were on the Nintendo Console who were likely HAPPY to get a RE game for their console, but it was just bad luck not that many were ON it! And me I got on it back on the WII remaster! as Gamecube was back in my "I hate HORROR" days, so I saw it, found it interesting, but any demos I shy away from at the gamestops because "scary game!" Also I don't CARE much for "playing how it was originally MADE" (I really LOVE mixing Classic and Modern Controls! There are points where CLASSIC Tan is the BEST! Hell I never HATED the Tank Controls, I never hated Third Person starting from RE4, Hell I love it ALOT more then FIRST PERSON Starting from RE7, PLEASE let 9 not copy RE7-8 with First Person! Or at least make a TRUE mix of BOTH choices! But what I LOVE about Tank Controls is well, I still feel like I'm playing a CLASSIC survival Horror. Instead of the ACTION it seems to be VEERING to, not that THIRD PERSON completely MADE IT 100% Action as RE2 RE SHOWS you CAN keep the CLASSIC feel of "limited ammo and encouraging you to AVOID combat more!" Something RE3 RE just like OG RE3 seem to VEER away from (RE3 OG only gets LESS flak because you still ARE kind of VEERED to playing it like the OLD RE sans forcing Nemesis on you....ALOT along with AMMO check areas where if you DIDN'T save or get the right ammo, well HAVE FUN DYING! At least RE1 was LESS Ammo Check and RE2 was SPARSE with the Ammo Check areas and RE2 R was KIND to you if you REALLY NEED ammo the moment a boss fight happens!) Also Tank is YOUR FRIEND when you have to do "the walk of if you run, SHOOT or take a HIT, have fun BLOWING UP" as you can CONTROL the Run and move better walking SLOW! REALLY should have made NO respawning enemies the moment that FUCKING Explosive got put on you so ONLY the enemies you FORGOT to kill on the way were left, and seriously why CAN'T you use a gun? Taking a Hit or Running makes sense, but a GUN shouldn't make you MOVE that much unless it's the Launcher or Shotgun!
You’re wrong about the modern controls with the camera perspectives. Whatever you were pressing to go forward, if the next camera angle switches, you can keep pressing that button to keep going that direction. It only resets if you let go and then you can to press the new direction.
I like that the bosses difficulty from original to remake differs the most if you play knife only. in the original game its: Plant 42, Yawn, Tyrant (from easiest to hardest. in the remake on the other hand its: Tyrant, Yawn, Plant 42, Crimson Head (from easiest to hardest). I won't count Black Tiger because you only have to open the door on both versions, it's just funny that the boss is a lot easier without auto aim. Just want to add one thing: You can actually cheese the second Tyrant in the remake. Just mash the run bottun instead of holding it and run in circles around the helipad, if you do this the Tyrant will miss you by a lot for some reason.
Oh dang, you still exist! Man, people stop uploading for a month and I assume they're thinking about quitting. Months like this and I assume they quit and dropped off the face of the internet.
I prefer the alternate controls, sue me. There's a learning curve to both. When on alternate you need to keep the analog stick still when the camera angle changes in order to continue moving in the same direction. If you are constantly moving around you'll end up accidentally turning around when the camera angle changes. This means you still need to be careful, having a similar effect to the games atmosphere and pacingas if you were using tank controls. I played RE3 with tank controls and I can use them but alternate feels better to use for myself when playing RE remake. To be honest hearing you complain about alternate controls, you sound exactly the same as people who can't get used to tank controls you keep losing your bearings and running into walls at first until you master the quirks. There's upsided and downsides to both
I explained what you said in the video, except I also pointed out the nuances that make it poorly thought out. Specifically the effect it has on the game’s difficulty, if nothing else. I clearly understand the controls, the game just wasn’t made for them.
When I'm playing the original 1996 game, I don't really take issue with the tank controls, but I don't care for them in the remake. Such controls feel more at home in the brighter, less realistic world of the first game, while their artificial limitations on movement feel bizarre in a setting that is actually attempting to look photorealistic. It would be akin to making a new Maniac Mansion with dark, moody graphics and a bleak tone to match them, but still sticking with a point-and-click interface. Such a control scheme is too "video gamey" to be immersive. Sticking with an old control scheme during the sixth generation was generally a bad move, thanks in part to the move toward increasingly lifelike (for the time, at least), less cartoony graphics. In its move to PS2, Clocktower 3 wisely dropped the point-and-click control scheme that was still effective in the fourth generation but already a bit archaic by the fifth. Tomb Raider nearly self-destructed by holding onto tank controls for Angel of Darkness before modernizing itself with Legend. And, well, the reception of REmake vs. RE4 says it all.
@@WitchTaunter Yes, and that's why they now feel cumbersome to control after years of games that improved upon the design elements introduced in RE4. (It's especially a problem for RE5, which is trying too hard to be an all-out action game with controls that aren't great for fluid action.) But the switch in perspective was a significant leap in modernization, one that better suited the gaming world's shift to analog sticks over directional pads. The single fixed angle behind Leon's back allowed the directional controls to feel more intuitive. Of course UP is always forward when that's the way the camera is pointing. Like I said, I still quite enjoy RE1. The controls feel entirely appropriate for a game with blocky PS1 graphics and goofy B-movie cutscenes. It feels charmingly retro (despite a part of me still thinking of the original Playstation as a "newer" console compared to the systems I played as a kid), whereas the remake feels sadly dated, a relic in its own time. I get far less enjoyment out of it than I do from the game that spawned it. (There's a reason why Nintendo's 1994 Game Boy revamp of Donkey Kong did not control like the 1981 arcade game, despite replicating its levels at the start. If it had been that stiff and limiting, I probably would have chunked that gray brick across the room, even though I had already played the port of the original on the NES.)
Only in the sense that there exists some unseen 3rd story that somehow meshes the two scenarios together and changes a lot from what we see. Which in turn makes what we see in the individual scenarios non-canon.
Safe room music reminds me of dk aquatic ambiance edit: Excellent video. If you take away the horror from resident evil nothing of value is left. The story is crap and the gameplay is serviceable as a horrogame. That's why I dislike resident evil 2,3 and nemesis so much. And I like RE1 and Code Veronica the best. 2,3 and nemesis are extremely dumb action games. Too colorful and too much action to be scary. I was so happy when CodeVeronica brought back the horror and made me scared right from the start. And then came RE4... I appreciate the dumbness of RE4 because REs story is dumb absolute nonsense for the braindead. But the schlock is the only enjoyable part of it. The gameplay is trash, and the irony is that many games of all things imitated the gameplay of RE4...
Hi friend been watching you retrospectives and it was making me wanna play the resident evil games but have no way to play them with my dad having stage 4 skin cancer I can’t get the money up for a laptop to play them I was wondering if maybe you could help me get a cheap laptop to be able to play them with my father thank you and love the vids!!
Ok WHOA there, tiger! Now I love this video but you got to say this with me; “Horr-OR” ok? You try it; “Horr-OR” it’s a horror title not a… not what you said. There’s 2 syllables in there so don’t be stingy now! The way you say it is, well sir? It’s plain whoreable. Mirr-orr. Horr-or. 2 syllables. You don’t look in the mere and at night we don’t see terrible wh… we don’t see what you keep saying. Sir. There are children in the room. 2 syllables Please. Sir.
Wait, so you're complaining about the devs giving the players options with controls? I understand that you're very much pro tank controls, but not everybody is like that, especially new players who never played the original trilogy. Since the game got so much criticism on release about not having "modern" controls, it's completely understandable that devs would add the alternate controls. It's not like they replaced it entirely, and now forcing all the RE vets to play with the new control scheme. They gave us options, so everyone can choose what they like. I'm sorry, but it seems like such a snobby thing to complain about.
No I’m complaining that the alternative controls break the game, and then I criticize the quality and side effects of the control scheme for a game it wasn’t made for. It isn’t just me saying that I don’t like it, like people do with tank controls. And I do state that it might’ve been a necessary evil.
"I had to give up and restart halfway through" gameplay footage shows you using the shotgun on downed zombies, and handgun on leech man. major skill issue
Fun Fact: Rebecca's voice actress in REmake, Hope Levy, was the voice of the singing dolls in Shrek (the "shine your shoes, wipe your...face." dolls)
Hell yeah
That fact sure is fun.
This video: a surprise to be sure but a welcome one
your retrospectives are always a treat
The worst mistake Capcom did with the RE remake was releasing it as a Gamecube exclusive, I am a Chilean and everywhere I saw in South America was households in which the PS1+2 dominated during that era, if Capcom had released it at a later date for the PS2 like they did with 4 it would have been a success
Yes it most definitely would have sold on PS2. We would have at least gotten a RE2 remake better than the one we ended up with. My only gripe is all the remakes be doing too much. Even the RE1 remake
too big for ps2
@@kewldude7825 PS2 would have handled it incredibly
@@kewldude7825 gamecube discs hold less data than normal DVDs the PS2 used. so space isnt an issue. but the specs might have been. however they could have ported it, the PS2 was capable enough, just would have taken more time
It wouldn't have looked the way it did. Re4 was also downgraded when ported to PS2.
People often miss the fact that Lisa Trevor puts you in front of the fireplace. She’s still a sweet little girl in there-somewhere.
i appreciate all the editing, research, history and entertainment factor here. most "retrospectives" are just people retelling us what happens in the game - which if you've already played, you know, and if you haven't, it's all spoilers. finally, some perspective
There's alot of trash out there. It's absolutely true.
Thank you for addressing Barrys magnum taking 3 shots to down one zombie. That has bothered me since the original.
Underrated and underappreciated game.
been looking forward to the next one in the series for ages - I regularly watch them all on repeat.
Hope you’re still making these, man! They’re really enjoyable, and I love your illustrations.
Glad to have you back, bud!!!
From Pony RP on Gmod to seeing you making retrospectives. Pretty funny how things go.
The nuance expressed in your videos is great.
Iirc Lisa indeed was confusing people with her parents so it's on the realm of possibilities that she just took some guy's face thinking it was her father
I just discovered your series a few days ago and binged the whole thing. Sad this is the last vid for now!
Absolutely love your RE reviews man!!
Great job on the RE retrospective videos. I’ve watched them all now. You make the best ones.
These long retrospectives from small youtubers are great. More of these!
Love these reviews!! I'm playing Resident evil remake right now for the first time and it's great. Hope to get a resident evil zero video soon!
I like the door transition, it's a classic.
36:28 I really enjoy tank controls so this is cool
So glad to see you back!
you are back hell yeah
these deserve way more views
I agree with you about the fixed camera angles. capcom really perfected this with haunted ground. the angles were fixed but dynamic
Of course I know how the hunter's instakill move works!
It jumps, swipes, and instakills you. Simple as.
Sick videos. Binging them a second time. Plz keep em coming :)
You're alive! Yay.
I clicked on this video because of your pfp and was not disappointed at all. 😎
Sooooooo good and entertaining!!! So excitement to see more videos again!!! Keep them up ❤❤❤
I love your art and your videos, keep up the excellent work! 💙
And the best thing about REmake (which, imho, makes it the best REmake, even to this day): NOTHING WAS REMOVED. Everything was expanded upon. No garbage "we wanted to include spiders but then it turned out to be too difficult, so you can have this re-skinned version of a zombie instead" or "yeah, dead factory was a cool and kinda unique level but we wanted to re-use assets from REmake2, so here is generic sterile laboratory # 14!"
Edit: I have not played REmake4 yet, so I don't know if they scrapped stuff there.
Ah! Best way to start off the year!
yoooooooooooobeen waiting for this for sure
Happy new year my friend. Hope you have a great year of Contant
me see another RE retrospective in my youtube recommends: “ah shit, here we go again “
One of my favorites of all time.
35:49 - id have to say i was one of the people that wpuld die on that hill like you. But after i was on the other side of it with the Tomb Raider Remastered, id have to disagree when you say it destroys the game. And you can change that in the configurations anyway. Best of both worlds for everybody.
(But yeah, the door transitions are bull 😂😂)
Also, loved your vids... watched all of them in one day.

GOOD LORD FINALLYYYY
Something that they added in the final tyrant fight is that now he can parry your Rockets swiping them away!
Looking forward to your next video when it’s posted 13 years from now
The remake set the standard for modern RE
I find that you can consistently blow off zombie heads if you blast them when they’re about to land a grab. Paired with the loud shotgun makes it very stressful to do
Ohboyohboyohboyohboy 🤯
38:44 Bro really used that Arthur music. 💀
I like the remakes box art. I like to pretend Jill is shaking the zombie down for his lunch money.😂
Im itching for the potential of a Re4, 7 or 8 retrospective
Awsome video to a awsome game❤
Good video
I love how you can kill zombies in the same spot an only use one kerosene flask to burn them. 👍
1:26:57 - What do you mean? This is the most not-as-critical and more praises given to a game of the whole series, iirc.
it is funny how people today think there are too many remakes. But remakes have been a thing since the 90s. Remember Twin Snakes? 😅
That didn’t come out in the 90s
NGL I hated that game at first but then I learned to treat it as Snake giving a recap of MGS1 on acid and everything made sense
DQ3 is a REMAKE to my FIRST RPG so that's a definite, but still "A REMAKE!" so not anything NEW! hopefully something will come up)
And yeah I hate when GOOD shit bombs! And me I got on it back on the WII remaster! as Gamecube was back in my "I hate HORROR" days, so I saw it, found it interesting, but any demos I shy away from at the gamestops because "scary game!"
Also I don't CARE much for "playing how it was originally MADE" (I really LOVE mixing Classic and Modern Controls!
I assume you stopped watching the video to comment, but I do say this in the video.
Ok what about the police station in the second one what is the reason for the puzzles in that
Bruh. I appreciate your opinions and views even if I don't initially agree with them.
Personally I still like the originals the best. I love the look of PS1 games, they have an unmatched charm to them.
Really wish crimson heads got more apperences in the later titles
STARSSSSS!!!
"Watching previous videos is recommended"
Ok, brb lol
Wasn't the GC remake flop discussed before and it was mainly due to weak marketing since the GameCube didn't have many rated games
Still waiting for Resident Evil 0 Retrospective
Editing it now
Can't wait
@@MAMoreno you do know that RE4 and 5 both have tank controls still, right?
If it had been that stiff and limiting, I probably would have chunked that gray brick across the room, even though I had already played the port of the original on the NES.)
oh shit its a long one too
Weskeeeeer
Actually both game stories are Canon they just take place side by side.
Only in the sense that there exists some unseen 3rd story that somehow meshes the two scenarios together and changes a lot from what we see. Which in turn makes what we see in the individual scenarios non-canon.
Just give me another RE1make using the new REngine, we got 2,3,&4 so why not?

edit: Excellent video.
Resident evil 4 bombed on gamecube too. I only bought remake because my nephew had a gamecube. I got a ps2

Fun fact:
@@WitchTaunter re is amazing
"I had to give up and restart halfway through"
gameplay footage shows you using the shotgun on downed zombies, and handgun on leech man. major skill issue
What does this mean? Is this comment on the wrong video or something, because I didn’t say that and there are no Leech Men in this game.
@@WitchTaunter i think his salt at you is just being thrown at random
