    The "Fire Nation Man" wrestler is just a character he plays in the ring. He's still an earth bender from the Earth Kingdom. It's a concept in wrestling called a heel, when a wrestler takes on the roll of a bad guy for the audience to root against.

      I mean odds are the dude is just a Fire Nation Colony born dude who can earthbend. I'm sure some of the local populace has been integrated in with fire nation culture by now considering the fact that it's been over 100 years since the war started and Sozin built colonies while Roku was alive

    On Toph's parents I can offer some insight as a disabled person. It's shame. They're ashamed of having a disabled daughter which is why they hide her from the world. They don't even say she exists and after seeing her fight not only do they have to tackle their ableism and infantilization of their daughter, but also the fact that she's doing something so "improper" like fighting. It would bring a lot of shame amongst nobles if that got out. Also her dad realises she could very easily fight back again st her parents if she wanted to. I love Toph so much and I wish more people talked about the ableism she faces from her own family because it's unfortunately a very relatable experience for a lot of disabled people.

      They're not ashamed of having a disabled daughter. They hide her because they believe that is the best way to protect her. You're trying to mountain out of a molehill. She's their only child. And don't forget, they're basically the richest family in the whole world. If someone found out they have a blind child, they would have tried to kidnap her for ransom.

Mfers are running around with flamethrower hands, she gets the soles of her feet burned and nearly dies a dozen times. All that being said she’s probably my favorite character.

      But who are you to say it doesn’t matter? It matters to Arianna so that should be enough. She doesn’t know what’s coming (well, she didn’t when they filmed this) and so any small thing could turn out to be a major plot point as far as they know.
      The world building in this show is insane and it’s awesome that people get caught up in the “little things”. The fact that Katara can heal, Toph can metal bend, and Azula can bend lightning is a really cool aspect of the show.
      I wouldn’t have responded but the fact that you commented 3x*, including a comment basically stating that their editor needs to correct their line of thinking. And that is bizarre. Let people enjoy the thing and catch what they catch. It’s not the end of the world if they miss something and find out about it later (through comments or reading articles or even a rewatch.) I’ve seen this show many times and I still catch new things. That’s one of the many reasons A:tLA is so freaking amazing.
      *I missed that the comments were responses to other people both times. So I retract that part. Although it was still doubling down on the strange gatekeeping.

    Yes, you can kidnap someone the same age as you. Kidnapping is just taking any person away illegally by force, age is irrelevant. In theory, a 12-year old can kidnap a 70-year old.

    The Russian Firebender was just a heel persona. Heels are bad guys in wrestling. It's quite common for a wrestler to create a heel identity based on a political and ideological enemy of the United States such as a Soviet Russian that extols the virtues of communism while decrying the evils of capitalism and the US, all while speaking in a fake heavy Russian accent. Quite often, they would sing the Soviet National Anthem before starting their match. This fire nation character is probably inspired by real life wrestlers Nikita Koloff and Nikolai Volkoff.

    Yes, though some people quibble over semantics, bending seems to be genetic. You need to be from an earthbending family to be a earthbender and so on. "Fire Nation Man" is just a WWE-style character. He has a Russian accent because we irl used to have people who'd pretend to be Russians/Soviets (or Iranian, or whatever other nationality Americans don't like). The WWE/WWF used to have wrestlers like The Bolsheviks and Nicolai Volkov who would pretend to be Soviet citizens just to give the crowd and enemy (a "heel") to root against. So "Fire Nation Man" was an Earth Kinggdom citizen who was play-acting.

    You don't have to be from a certain nation to bend their native element. Waterbenders can be born in the Fire Nation, Earthbenders born in the different water tribes, etc. It's generally genetics, like an ancestor that bended an element different than the nation their descendant lives in could pass on that gene. It would be unusual, however, for any bender besides an air-bender to born among the Air Nomads, as they typically keep to their own and don't mingle with the outside world... yet.

Just found this channel from the Edge of Tomorrow reaction being recommended to me. This is one of my favorite series of all time and love seeing people enjoy it for the first time since I can't watch it for the first time again XD. Looking forward to seeing you guys watch the rest of the series!

    The way Toph uses her bending to "see" is just the coolest thing ever. Her "seismic sense," as it has been called by fans for years, was a brilliant idea to include. I love this character, and all of the blind jokes that come with her haha.

    Bending comes from genetics, at least for the most part. The fire nation earth bender has someone in his family line that could earth bend. Also, not everyone is a bender as you probably already know.

    12:52 This is just an act. It's a reference to Nikolai Volkoff in WWF playing a Russian heel, just like the Boulder is just the Rock. He's not actually from Fire Nation.

    13:00 Yes "Fire Nation man" cant possibly be from the firenation. And hes a play on the heel wrestlers (I wrestling a heel is a wrestler who the crowd is suposed to cheear against while a face is a wrestler they're suposed to cheer for) who were suposedly from the soviet union.

    You actually can be born having any of the for bending skills in any of the nations. So a water bender could be born into the earth kingdom. Though, if you live in the earth kingdom, you're more likely to be born an earth bender.

    So all the Earth R u mble fighters are based on different wrestling archetypes. (Though not an exhaustive showing). Fire Nation Man, specifically, is a heel. Hes playing up a villainous character meant to hype up the popular wrestlers. A common trope during the earlier days (mainly the 80s) was having Soviet characters being easy "love-to-hate" characters due to the Cold War. Hence him donning Fire Nation gear and a bad Russian accent.

    I feel like you guys overthink the wrong things a lot, like there’s a war going on against the fire nation so obviously a guy named “fire nation man” wouldn’t be an actual fire bender because he would be arrested.

  • @Matrim42
    @Matrim42 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fire Nation Man is just a reference to old WWF where you had guys like Nikolai Volkoff or Boris Zurhkov who played Russian characters during the Cold War because it was an easy way for a heel to get cheap heat.

  • @patrickcromwell7554
    @patrickcromwell7554 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not entirely Correct, but it IS the origin of the individual benders. They each originate from their unique cultures, but they don't NEED to be from there to bend a specific element. Also Fire Nation Man is just a character that that guy is playing. Before the Fire Nation started their war , there was most probably people travelling and falling in love with other benders. A child of two different benders will inherit only one of their parent's elements and it isn't absolutely the element of where they were born. As an example, let's say an air nomad fell in love with a water bender and settled down in the Northern Water tribe city. Their child can be born with Airbending but be from a water tribe nation.
    But that isn't something that was very closely observed as we've seen. Most bending factions tended to live their entire lives in their own territory so that supports your theory, it really does, but it isn't like law of nature or anything.

    Fun fact: Toph’s bending is different from all other earthbenders because she _learned_ it differently from the rest of the modern benders. Toph’s style is based off of Chow Gar, or Southern Mantis Style Shaolin, while every other earthbender’s is based on the real-world Hung Gar style.
    In fact, ALL of the bending styles are based on _real_ martial arts, and many of the fights are choreographed by actual masters of their respective fighting styles: waterbending is based off of Tai Chi, firebending is Northern Shaolin-Do, and airbending Ba Gua Zhang - which is a largely evasive, non-lethal style, exactly like Aang!
