This is the answer across the board All ceos got together for rich people crime pass times and discussed ensuring no one makes a good camera, and the market is to be drawn out for 30 years until phones are superior for value
Its like that story of the East German fridge company who made fridges of the same standard they always did during the unification days, and everyone bought their fridges, best selling fridges that existed in the 90s, but then sales dropped, why? Because these fridges were too good, they lasted forever and the company went bankrupt in early 2000s.
If Fuji spent their Instax money on their software department they would be the absolute best APSC format manufacturer and a no brainer for most people. But they don't. The software department is where they cheap out. It's really easy to see that they need stronger development in Autofocus, but recently switching from the X-S20 to the Nikon Zf has shown me it's more than just autofocus algorithms and software. It encompasses so much more. Like all the little bonus features and customization of how the camera can work for you just isn't there. They are quite lacking. Also - Nikon in camera RAW processing > Fuji. Fuji can't even show you the preview of the final JPEG in real time as you are changing settings.
I shot fuji for years , I think the xt5 af was the worse of all of them ; single point was pretty reliable for actual photography if somebody was picking grapes off a vine or something . I recently dropped Fuji and grabbed the zf brick and man it’s the jam clam from Shabam. I love it and the af is really reliable .
@ I guess it really depends on what your are shooting , the a7cii will smoke all of the Fuji’s in performance but you will be stuck with 1/4000 max mechanical shutter speed which imo blows door knobs . I have 2 Sony a7iv’s for work . The zf is my hobby camera . I would never shoot Fuji for work unless I was taking pictures of grandpas with hemorrhoids running on a beach .
@@socialbender I’m not planning on shooting any sports or fast action stuff I imagine that would be the main problem with the 1/4000 shutter speed? I don't know why I'm bothering to wait for the firmware 'upgrade' to come to my X-T5. Unless Fuji pleasantly surprises me quickly, I might be selling my camera and five lenses.
I even downgraded my XT5 to version 2.10, it's much better (as soon as you downgrade, you can tell how bad the latest firmware is) but it's just back to the previous "OK-ish" Fuji AF. If you shoot video....there's no reason to use Fuji at all. Stills it's fine...on downgraded firmware.
I am on the same boat. Been shooting Fuji for 10+ years (as a hobby) but lately, I've noticed some times half my shots are out of focus. It has become incredibly annoying. I am down to two bodies (X-T5 and X100VI) and just 2 lenses (16-55 Mk2 and 18 f1.4). I sold all my other lenses and bought a Sony A7cii to dip my toes in that water first, before deciding weather or not I will be completely moving away from Fuji. It honestly brakes my heart lol
@@Ramiel77I recently got to work wirh a a7c briefly. Man, oh man, the AF was something else. Even with adapted lenses. Never thought I was going to think of AF as needed in my work until then. And I could use my Focus Pro with all my cameras but it’s not really worth all the setup and rigging. I hope my Fuji gets to have a decent update so I don’t have to worry about it as much.
@@plagueofkoalas Same here on v2.10 as each update was a downgrade so far. As far as it looks judging from the latest X-H2s update, we can be happy if the upcoming firmware will at least be on par with v2.10 for stills.
Fuji execs just don't listen to their camera customers about autofocus and get to the heart of the issue. Still waiting on a X-T5 firmware improvement!
Last year, when I was using a Fujifilm X-H2, I had no problem photographing birds and wildlife, but AF was noticeably unreliable for moving subjects in video. I switched to a Nikon Z8 earlier this year and it has much better video AF, but is similar for stills...
I’m happy with my X-T4. It doesn’t show the AF problems as you showed. It’s not perfect but much more accurate. Still I hope the AF issues will be solved and more than that. Fujifilm show us your program for fixing the AF issues for every camera on the line. DO IT.
I am finding so far the X-M5 to be reasonable but I am still getting a handle of the misses vs the hits to get a more grounded assessment. Note that I am doing stills, not video. So far if I use video and I am trying to do something in-house (just as a quick test) it seems to do well, I need to give it a swipe at doing wha you did of walking and having people passing by to see what happens. Will try that in the next couple of days.
Maybe the Fuj just needed some extra warmth for its AF to work properly. And not just the warmth from your heart, I mean, the opposite of active cooling. It's cold outside after all. It worked inside. Give it a shot, some sort of heating enclosure for the street. Maybe there's some face recognition like Sony has in their firmware, and you could add a couple random faces, so it's trying to focus on them instead of on everything else and stays focused for longer.
The problem with the 7.1 f/w is that it is hopeless with multiple people in the frame, just like you are proving with your street stuff. All the YT reviews that have it hailed as being better are always from a case use of a single person in the frame. I have done several professional jobs now with 2x XH2S's running 7.1 (Stills and Video) and it is possibly the worst f/w of all of them when it comes to multiple people in the frame, it has no rhyme or reason as to who gets selected, no way to make it stick on that person, it constantly jumps to other people and then no people at all. 5.03 was better at reigning in the subject detection features and having the AF just chill out more... what a mess..
Oh man. I could listen to you for hours talking about the telephone book ... :-) Back to some more serious topic: Could you share your exact AF-settings used during those test sequences?
