  • Watch Greg and I as we cut out this sandstone lintel and replace it with the one I dressed last week, you’ll find how I made it on my channel.
This was a straightforward enough job, the scaffold went up in the morning and the lintel was replaced and scaffold down by 15:20.

Cheers Greg, your video's are really useful. I can lay brick & block but stones a black art as Ive no source to show me what Im doing. Same goes for slating on to sarking in scotland before TH-cam I just had to make it up as I went along. Dying arts so yeah really useful having you teach some tips. Ive a sandstone house, blonde dressed stone with a lightly tooled face, alot of the stones have heavy erosion 3" into the building. Am I best cuttting them out and replacing them or build them with some mortar from masons mortar (how long would that last)? Also whats the best way to clean the building up? A wire brush on the tooled stuff and maybe reface the smooth stuff with a cupdisk where needed? Ive a steam Genny but Im frightened I start off more some more stones to blow. Whats yer thoughts?

I’m glad they’re useful. (My names Callum by the way, Greg is the bricklayer I work beside lol) English style roofs are nailed to battens rather than sarking can I suggest following Compass Roofing in Edinburgh on TikTok they have some handy videos.
So your stonework. I would always replace but for me that’s bread and butter work so if we manage to get some decent work I’ll be putting things up, I’ve discovered a love for video now as well as masonry. A relevant mortar from there would probably last 15-20 years and for me isn’t worth the money. Although it has a place.
