Thanks again mate!

Bitumen? Maybe used to seal it. That’s what they used as a DPC up here pre world-war1 most times.
This is a concrete poured thing they’re horrible. By all accounts the auld boy has been burning all sorts lol
U retar you know they mean the black death 💀 good guess tho at least 200 year old 😂
Google it John Mitchell
@johnmitchell692 🤣🤣😂 ya banger
Absolutely tapped in the heed. See if you were gonnae call someone out you’d surely make sure you were right in the first place 🤪
Loving these vids, cheers - cool how we get to see the wall in stages. 🙌
No probs! I’ll be uploading some more long form stuff shortly I’ve just had a baby so I’ll be back at it shortly!
Useful, thanks 👍 You're Production skills are coming on too 👌
You’re welcome. I’m getting used to the editing now!
Where are you based?
The Scottish Borders. How come?
Looks nice and strong good work big yin 🇬🇧
Cheers ma pal!
A very cute wee wall. Must have been a nice job to do👍🏻
Killer on the back and it’s not the finish I wanted but it looks ok I suppose. It’s straight but a couple of joint issues. I didn’t rebuild the full thing.
@@ModernPracticalStonemason when the shrubs and the moss creep over it will be lovely I reckon. 👍🏻
Enjoying your channel. Good information. 👍👍
Thanks for the feedback 😎
You wasted to much mortor
You wasted your time commenting
Bien compañero❤❤
He’s a good builder 😎
Hi I'm also bricker work in ENGLAND
Do you use hardcore to fill the trench around the new wall or just soil?
There will be. Also in the base course it will have a cavity fill mix.
My favourite dressing is with stugging on the face and smooth edges framing it.
I like broached with margins
Don5 use neat nhl either. It’s as bad as cement
I think I’ll stick to what I know thanks
and don’t forget to add plasticiser 😂 best is to cover the whole thing with black jack in the end 👌
Nothing wrong with a bit plasticiser 😏
I hate block work. Quick but boring 😴
Up until 2 years ago I hadn’t worked with a bricky before but I’ve had an opportunity to add this to my skill set in stonemasonry so because I’m fairly green at it I still love it.
@@ModernPracticalStonemason Always good adding tithe skill set buddy.
It sure is mate. I’ve been lucky to be paired with 2 brilliant brickies.
@@ModernPracticalStonemasonDo you know how Gay that sounded?!
Takes one to know one right?
What ratio do you use ?
I think that would’ve been a 5:1 with sharp sand and building sand
Big Terry making an honorary appearance
Aye buldin bloak
Tidy
Cheers pal
👍
Please make a video on this bricks making
They’re made in a factory I’m not sure I even know where they’re from!
@@ModernPracticalStonemason oh... Thanks for reply brother
You’re very welcome!
Nice work 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks pal
Tidy
Cheers
Thanks mate
The 1 b4 the 1 u layed is out fella
Not bad for a first time 😏
Always wondered what this was, there's one on the bottom corner of the back of the house i grew up in.
It's a Bench Mark indicating a level about sea level usually at 50ft increments. . originlly made and used by British Army map makers which started the Ordinance Survey, Nothing whatever to do with CIVIL ENGINEERS
I did not know this. I only ever go off of what I’ve been told in the past by tradesmen of mines in these videos so thank you for the detailed correction.
They ARE used in civil engineering to take levels as they will have a temporary bench mark (TBM) on site to take level from. This TBM will likely have taken it's level from an ordinance survey benchmark like we have here.
@jimtheudb thank you Jim!! I don’t feel so silly now.
Flood level ORDANCE SURVEY BENCH MARK OBM taken from newlyn Cornwall it’s the tide level and the flood level of the area simple basic stuff
Thanks for yhis, i love information like this. My neighbours housr has a mark from the irdinance syrvey people. I wonder uf its this 🤔
I would imagine it is. It’s called an ordnance survey mark I believe
@@ModernPracticalStonemason El thicko here 🤦♀️ thanks for being diplomatic 😅 its still interesting though. I love maps too
@LizWarren-uv8pt El Thicko, absolutely not! Even noticing a thing like this proves you’ve an inquisitituve enough mind 🙂
@@ModernPracticalStonemason thanks. I live buildings. My dad was a slater sk im used to lots of different builder in the house growing up. He taught Mr the history if the buildings in Ayr, being born in 1929. Its just been my thing. The ordinance map is part of an original mansion, now in 3 houses. Its down at the step at the front door. The ordinance folj come to check it on occasion. Thanks 🙂
No thank you for telling me your story 🙂 I’m sure your dad done some good graft in his time.
Called a crow's foot in some places...found on bridges etc
It was used as a datum line, but was also used to mark military property, even on property such as roads, bridges and buildings, but even on prisoner clothing. Its origins lie hundreds of years ago. I once found one beside a Wade road near loch Morar. I believe it's sometimes called a pheon.
Thanks lads! I love constructive comments.
I thought prostitutes used them to Mark their corner/territory. That way during the day, punters knew as to which corner to call to when they became sufficiently aroused?
I wonder what it used to be
Well it used to be a fridge
Cement mortar?
Hourdex
Master craftsmen.....just like you
I won’t consider myself a master until I’m at least in my 50s.
Did you consider air lime? NHL is usually far too hard and can make damp worse.
Hydraulic lime is breathable, also it would always be mixed so it’s softer than the existing stone. In this case whin stone. Much harder than even concrete.
I don't know the mix, but at the Saint Mountain they use white color!
Where is the Saint Mountain?
@@ModernPracticalStonemason Greece,Halkidiki, mountain Athos monasteries.
My wife said to me they also use Penetron with admix for the moisture!
This is really interesting. I’m taking the kids swimming but I will 100% be researching this when I get home thank you! And please give my thanks to your wife 😃
@@ModernPracticalStonemason I will... Thank you! It's a civil engineer and obsessed with the moisture problems of the buildings.
Nice job bro!
Thank you!
Amazing sir
I can’t take credit for this, it’s the roofer I work with.
Another one for the lime perverts, cheers! 👍
