To stop it from bobbling and falling off, buckle the helmet. A helmet is completely useless unbuckled. The point is qhen you fall, it stays on your head to take the impact instead of your head. When its unbuckled, itll bobble and fall off whenever you fall down
Even more, a properly fitting helmet should stay put without the buckle if you tilt your head sideways, or look down. Make sure to keep a hand below the helmet in case it doesn’t fit properly, so it doesn’t fall on the ground, some helmets are made to protect you extremely well but can only handle one “real” fall because of it before they get less effective. Most good helmets have some mechanism to fasten them around your head (the expensive ones can have a turning wheel, the cheaper ones often just have an adjustable plastic strip) Then fasten the buckle leaving some room around your chin (to leave enough room during certain movements) I’m pretty sure this is the case for all helmets who are meant to mainly be about protecting your head during a fall. For helmets that are meant to protect your head from things from above they don’t have to fit as perfectly, while ski helmets and such should fit really well
Thank u. I swear most people think it cool not to wear one, but I have a lot of stacks so far each time I have had a helmet on no worse than a concussion
@@headshot2.031 yeah, as a begginer skater I wear palm guards, elbow protection and a helmet, I just dont find knee protection as necessary. I always skate in long and cheap trousers tho, to minimise loses after falling

@johnnyringer I don’t skateboard, but I mountain bike. Mountain bikers are generally really good about wearing pads and helmets. We hide pads under our clothes, and have worked helmets into looking cool. someone without a helmet is just viewed as stupid. For pad being uncomfy, you just have to pick the right pads.
Even if it looks bad, always wear a helmet and wrist guards. If you look at the way he falls even when rolling, it’s instinct to put wrists first, and if your going fast you will break your wrists, it’s a lot easier to fall without hurting your knees or elbows badly than your wrists. And a helmets a givin
Guys if your wear baggy cloths you can throw the pads under neath the cloths, the cloths might get wrecked if you fall but distressed look is in rn anyway
I always always ALWAYS wear a helmet, no matter what I'm doing. I'd rather be sweaty and look bad than get a head injury so bad I can never skate again. As for the rest of it, I almost always wear knee pads and wrist guards, usually elbow pads as well. Sometimes I skip them because "it's hot, I don't want to put all that on, I'm just cruising in flat ground anyway" but every single time I don't wear the pads I get hurt. I'll be doing something I'm 100% confident with, like literally just slowly going straight forward, and of course something always happens. The other day I was on my way to the skate park, and I didn't want to carry my board, but I also didn't want to take everything out of my bag, so I just started skating to the park with just my helmet on, it was a pretty smooth sidewalk so I was sure I'd be fine. But then I hit a huge crack, fell on my side, hit my elbow on the crack and left a big gash, scraped up the whole side of my leg, and had to spend the first 20 minutes of my skate session trying to wash off the blood and put on a bunch of bandaids. Now I have bloodstains on my shoes, my shirt, and my water bottle. Worst fall I've had in a while, but if I'd been wearing elbow pads and knee pads I would have probably just gotten a bruise on my hip. Also it sucks because whenever I fall like that it destroys my confidence, I couldn't even work up the courage to drop in on anything. Don't be stupid like me, be safe
And then you learn to fall by doing pretty much knee slides exclusively, because padded up skaters do knee slides everywhere and never develop the ability to save themselves from anything else as a result, (I've seen this happen, yes wear pads but also learn how to fall right regardless)
The other day i went skating on a paved trail wearing my pads and a helmet- didn't fall once. Then i got cocky and took everything off since it was uncomfortable, went down a slight slope on the same trail- fell and scraped all the spots my pads would have protected 🗿 (except for my head thank goodness lol) I learned my lesson, safety is the priority
Idc what anyone says: As someone that studies film, art and 3D sculpting my hands are the most important thing in my life. You got a broken arm you can’t work. I’d rather look stupid than fail all my classes or not be able to do what I love.
Only one that will keep you away from bleeding hands is literally hand protection to prevent your wrist from breaking, and protecting the inside of your hands. I don’t think that messes with the fit tho
For those wondering if a helmet is truly worth not looking cool, I have this story. A girl, who should’ve graduated with me, died four years before we were to graduate. She was at the skate park, hit her head, and thought she was fine. The next morning, her mom went to wake her up, but found the girl unresponsive. She has a concussion and massive brain bleed from the injury. She passed away from her brain bleed three days later. She was 14 years old. The medical professionals said that if she had gotten checked out, or if she had been wearing a helmet, she would’ve survived. This, and several other cases from my hometown, are the reason why we push for proper helmets. It doesn’t matter if it’s a motorcycle, football, skating, or bicycling, we push to make sure everyone is safely wearing a helmet.
I’m a new skater but I can do some basic tricks, like ollies and even jump down a few stairs, but I’ve realized that, I can only wear elbow pads and a helmet. Turn out I have a high risk of leg problems. And wearing knee pads stops the circulation in my legs, making them go numb. So if I want to have at least some movement in my legs when I’m 60, I can’t wear them. 😐
when i was a kid a high school-aged skater wasn’t wearing a helmet on a hill by my house and he hit his head and died. i always wore my gear religiously as a result, and actually pretty soon after that i ran headfirst into a utility box so hard that it cracked my helmet in half. the tragedy of the kid who died may just have saved my life
The different view thing gets to me so much, I really like skating but i get afraid of falling sometimes, the pads give me more confidence about things like falling but make me feel super insecure and anxious about the way other skaters will view me
Experience from my brother who also learned how to properly fall by getting two concussions and getting sent to the hospital, helmets are always a must. The knee pads you can live without, but helmets lets you skate longer.
also: as a roller skater, helmets mean i can’t wear over the head headphones, and earbuds fall out to easy for me. my one rule is i won’t skate if i don’t have wrist guards
had a friend die in high school from not wearing a helmet. Dr said his death could have easily been avoided by wearing a helmet. If you don’t wanna wear pads whatever but do your loved ones a favour and wear the brain bucket, everyone thinks it won’t happen to them until it does.
my friend tried to go out with SHORTS on, i told her “dude, that’s a terrible idea” and she said “i’ve done this a hundred times!”. anyway, we got to the park and i watched her skate for about 10 seconds until she fell on the pavement. she had rocks in her knees and bled a LOT. we had to go to the park bathroom so we could clean her up. never gave someone a bigger “i told you so”. i don’t like kneepads i wear thick sweatpants to prevent scrapes. i typically don’t wear a helmet because i’m just a cruiser but if i’m going to the skatepark, 100%.

The one thing I always enforce when I have taken kids I babysit skate/longboarding is always wear a helmet. I would prefer them to wear pads too but even their mom has difficulty with it (their ADHD/Autistic and have trouble with the lack of movement compared to normal) so we agree that no helmet, no boarding. I can deal with scrapes and such, even broken bones should it happen for whatever reason but I refuse to let them crack their skull open or badly injure their head. Even from a medical standpoint, take the hit on the arms and legs when possible as they are considered (in the grand scheme of things) less vital than the head. If im doin tricks i always wear a helmet however if im just skating down the street i usually don’t and the only time i wear pads is when im trying a really hard new trick 😅
hypothetically. i do fashion design, would any of y'all be interested in actually good looking pads that actually look cool and more like an accessory than protection?
If Andy Anderson can wear a helmet and still be the best modern skater, then theres not really any excuse not to wear one. The pads are whatever but protect your head
I've only ever scrapped up and smashed my hips and sides and there aren't any pads for that 😭
My math teachers nephew got permanent brain damage because he didn’t wear and protection and he was a really good skater too
why not wear the pads under 🤷🏽♀️
i feel like it would chafe, no?
What you gonna put the helmet under?

You buckle the helmet so it doesn't bobble...
Fun fact if you button the helmet it doesn’t bobble
I can get why someone wouldnt wear pads. Theyre uncomfortable and limit mobility, but a helmet isnt uncomfortable and doesnt limit mobility
