I think a pretty standard rule of thumb for industrial sewing machines is a light oiling for every 4 hours of use. Yes, sometimes equipment does need to be disassembled for cleaning. Its less of an issue if the user has been lubricating with straight mineral oil than if grease, or a wax based lubricant has been introduced.
