I made this for dinner tonight, followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great. I think I put in a little too much salt. After it was done baking it was still a little soupy around the edges but that went away after the rest period. I rested it for 30 minutes which I think is too long. It was perfect for the two of us, with a piece left over for tomorrow night.
After viewing this, I did do a small lasagna for 4, actually for 2 but left overs for 2 more. Usually only make lasagna for a crowd. Much more manageable making smaller size. Also tried the fried artichokes, I really do like artichokes but never er had fried before. To be honest: it never made the salad. We snacked on them & we're very, very good. Bigger batch next time. Thank you for great recipe.
You need to do more small recipes like this. Have a whole cookbook worth of them. It’s such a pain to scale down and hope it comes out like it should. It doesn’t always.
They do have a whole cookbook of them, a few actually. There's a big one called Cooking for Two (650 recipes) and it was published over ten years ago. The updated 10th Anniversary edition of Cooking for Two was published earlier this year. There's a smaller All-Time Best Dinners for Two (may be out of print), Vegan for Two and the upcoming Baking for Two.
@joshuafranco1570 ATK already has one. Great cookbook. Though I just do the full recipe version since friends & family come by often so already have seconds on hand for unexpected company.
I've been wanting to try a dish I had at an Italian restaurant where you take 2-in cubes of frozen lasagna... bread and deep fry them. Alfredo for dipping. It's pretty fantastic
I discovered by accident that artichoke heart slices pair very well with shrimp cocktail sauce. A great alternative for parties to have a simple vegetarian option to shrimp cocktail. I'm going to try my air fryer with potato starch instead of the corn starch to make a crispy coating on those artichokes for this meal. Thanks for this weekday lasagna idea!
Looked like a regular "loaf pan" ... you can pick them up about anywhere, made out of metal, glass, or ceramic.. my basic "go to" for banana nut bread...
I don’t like frozen leftovers that have been pre-baked. They’re too hard. I don’t pre-bake any casseroles if I can avoid it for this reason. Since it just two of us, I use 8x8 pans and divide the casserole into the two dishes (instead of one 9x13x2 inch pan). I think I’ll try this recipe, and if I Ike it, double or triple it.
I really have a problem making a lasagna for 2 people. Think I will TRY using your recipe....will let you know how it goes lol. UUMMM....would really like to see your puppers in one of the video!!!
The whole meal looks so delicious! I wish you would adapt your recipes for the people out there who have to measure in grams and liters. Nice videos tho. 👍
@@garywallenphd885 That's your educated comment on the topic?!?!?!?!?!? If I can make the effort to speak, write, hear in English, I can use other systems than the metric one also. Just for your info: The USA among some few small countries (Republic of Palau, Liberia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federate States of Micronesia, Myanmar) are THE big exception worldwide. They are still refusing the metrification (that means the implementation of the metric system which is an international decimal-based system of measurement). In this context, my kind suggestion/request doesn't seem to be over the top...
With out the horizontal cut, the onion pieces will not be a uniform if you slice vertically straight through the onion unless you cut radially following the arc of the onion's rings.
I can’t believe you put that lasagna in the oven without putting a baking sheet under it. In the real world, that WILL bubble over, and you’ll be stuck cleaning the oven. Other than that, looks good, but as others have noted, I’d never bother making one that small.
It looks like it did bubble over, but seeing as we didn't see right into her oven, how do you know there was no sheet pan already in there on either the rack where she placed the lasagna or possibly a rack underneath? 🤔Or maybe Wolf just comes along and replaces the oven when it gets really dirty.
That is from Le Creuset. I think I have a similar sized baking dish, in red I got from TJ Maxx I think last year. May or may not be as deep as hers though.
Come on!! If you want to teach an Italian recipe, teach it well! 😂that's not ragù alla bolognese for Lasagna that's another dish! Stop stealing Italian products that don't exist. Recipe Pork belly, carrots, Celery, Butter (not oil), white wine, milk and a little broth, sale e pepe. Sorry to everyone, 😂 But the reality is that your teacher teaches wrong and unoriginal things 🤗🤗
There's no such thing as bad lasagna. Frozen, from a can, or is fancy as you want to make it. Relax. That's the nice thing about recipes... If you don't like one of them, there's a thousand different versions on the internet.
Pasta is an essential part of a good lasagne recipe. Make real pasta at least DeCecco boiled for 4 minutes. American version of Italian recipe is not good. Julia you know better!
Did you try it? I've never had bad lasagna. After I've worked the 12-hour shift, frozen lasagna works just fine. If I want to make it myself, It's probably going to be fancy but it's all pretty good.
It's so nice to see a recipe for 2. We are older and this was really perfect. So thank you very much.
Agree!! We are empty nesters!!

Lasagne, perfect for one hungry person 😋
Very hungry. But I like recipes that don't serve 6 or 8 people, there are too many of them on youtube.
I find that I can use regular uncooked lasagna noodles if my sauce is ‘saucy’ enough. They come out just fine.
Timing is everything. I used to think getting the best ingredients was all. Slowly, I learned.
This delicious meal, and dessert, is just to die for, Julia. BRAVA, my friend!
Love Julia and her video’s! ❤
Perfect Dinner! Ciao

Looks delicious 😋 but lasagna is not worth all that effort if there won't be any leftovers in the end lol
Agree. Like a lot of things, it tastes better the next day!
Double or triple up on the recipe and it’ll be worth it. Good packed lunch the next day.
That’s what I was thinking… Great comment!
Great recipe for a single person (who eats moderate size portions)

90% of all Chinese dishes use corn starch.
My lasagna is fussier so I’ll try yours for my family. I love the idea of fried artichokes, thanks!
She's gotten more beautiful over the years
OMG !!!!!
the artichokes Looks Delish on their own
Thanks again for a meal plan!
looks too easy! love it!
I love fried artichoke hearts but have never made them. I think I might just make this whole dinner😍

I believe it's by Le Creuset.
Be sure to place your lasagna on a sheet tray while baking because it will bubble over.
thank you Julia , ❤

Onion technique is great, but scraping the blade of the knife along the board is like hearing someone scrape their nails down a chalkboard.
The chianti is gooo but the chianti Classico DOP is much different
Only basil and garlic..? Guess that's as simple as you can get...

Americans are still having to to convert everything over from the metric system.

Raw eggs in dessert? How do I make them safe.
Use a high quality shop bought custard instead of the raw egg as a substitute.
What do you mean make them safe? …use pasteurized eggs if you are concerned.
Only 1 in 20,000 eggs contain salmonella. Are you feeling lucky?

Making a horizontal slice in the onion does nothing to help chopping the onion.
