- In today's Finale we tackle the LAST Story of Sonic Adventure 2, to see whether it's possible to beat it Without Collecting Any Rings!
We've finally reached the Finale of our Sonic Adventure 2 Challenge Series! As always I just want to thank you all who have supported this series and the channel! This was a massive undertaking over the past month, but certainly enjoyable overall, and I hope the content has been worth the wait! To get back into the swing of weekly uploads, I want to take a small break from the Ringless Stipulation and instead tackle the challenges that YOU guys have suggested over the past few months! So if there is a challenge that you have in mind, that you'd really like to see me take on, now is the time to suggest them in the comments below!
After that we will then return to this series, when we tackle both Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog without collecting rings!
We're now on the road to 2K Subscribers! I can't wait for Sonic Adventure 1, or Sonic Adventure 2 maybe I can! Can you beat Sonic Adventure 2 LAST STORY without collecting any rings? I guess I could always do so in Sonic Adventure DX; or Sonic Adventure 2 battle, Shadow The Hedgehog is my favorite character, especially his battle against the Biolizard, like Super Shadow vs Super Sonic, or Super Shadow vs Eggman! Same with Tails and Knuckles, and even Sonic The Hedgehog!!! Sonic... Did you guys read those Sonic Frontiers Leaks? Insane right?! What about Sonic Origins or Sonic Prime? Maybe even the Sonic Movie and Sonic Movie 2, I might do a Sonic Movie 2 Review when it comes out, my favorite port has to be Sonic Adventure 2 battle and I hope we get a Sonic Adventure 3 someday. For sure I'll be doing a Sonic Adventure 2 review, maybe even cover some Sonic Leaks and Sonic discussion... Honestly, I find that whole scene that contains Gerald's last words before he's executed to be even more disturbing in the Japanese version. That voice when he finally cracked... it sends chills down my spine.
Honestly I feel you there, even in sonic X where you can actually here the firing squad. This scene still gives me nightmares when I think about it
@@challengerjakku1943, I've never watched the SA2 adaptation in Sonic X but wow... I never knew that. Side note that's completely unrelated to the video at hand but still relates to SA2 and Cannon's Core in particular. So I have a friend who makes some, in my opinion of course, really good Sega Genesis/Mega Drive remixes that work on real hardware right? He made three different ones for Scrap Brain Zone from Sonic 1 on the Master System (In case you don't know, Sonic 1 on the Master System has different music for everything besides Green Hill, the invincibility theme, and title theme. It's also my second favorite 8-bit Sonic game.
Now these Scrap Brain remixes were and are meant for a rom hack that me and him are creating. It's a rom hack of Sonic 1 in case you were wondering, we call it Sonic Premix. So one day, I just had the brain idea (no pun intended) of replacing Cannon's Core's songs with the afterforementioned remixes. Now I used the standard run-of-the-mill one for the mech parts of Cannon's Core, then I used the slower, more methodical, more dire one (which was originally meant for what would technically be Scrap Brain Act 2 in the hack before it got replaced by the one I love so much more. This version does have the upside of using that one instrument from Spring Yard Zone, the lead instrument of course.) for the part that the treasure hunting characters go through, and finally, I put the one with all the hardcore elements (such as the guitar instrument from S3&K's sub boss theme) and PSG over Sonic's part of Cannon's Core, because that just made sense. Just something I wanted to mention because y'know, it was interesting and this video having Cannon's Core reminded of it. I never did publicly release that mod though, nor do I think he released any of the remixes in a full album. Then again, the soundtrack for the rom hack is still being made.
Oh yeah and Scrap Brain 2 in the hack? I'm pretty sure that can be done ring-free because of how scarce they are. There's like, 80-something.
@@Sonixthesuckydo8905 It was in the Japanese version of the show, they tried to censor the shot in the 4kids dub but you can still hear it.
Honestly that sounds amazing! It's a shame they aren't on TH-cam, I would love to hear them.
Eggman's section: You can just hold onto your lockon until it disconnects on its own, no need to backtrack. There's also a medkit baloon under the ledge before the two artificial chaos, you could have healed there.
Rouge's section: in the room with three artificial chaos, there's an invincibility behind the one on your right when you enter.
Knuckles' section: I forgot that too last time I went back there.
Sonic's section: The parallel to Lost World is intentional. That entire section is built to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds by mimicking the constructions of the ancient echidnas (or possibly the chao? it's not entirely clear who built the shrine.)
Shadow's section: It took me *months* to be able to beat that thing, trying a few times a week.

10:37 There's a Bomb capsule behind the moving blocks going upward that will destroy all the Artificial Chaos in the room, preventing you from having to play chicken with them.

Just so you're aware, the Artificial Chaos that can hide its weak point can actually be defeated fairly consistently if you use a specific strategy. Spam them with homing shots until you get close, then get right in front of them and let your melee attack hit them. It kills the Artificial Chaos regardless if the weak point is exposed or not. It's easy to forget you can do that though, and it's only consistent if there's just one of them, but it has saved me some frustration.
Oh also, that thing about the Biolizard where it can kill you by having you jump off it into the piss channel? The patch isn't perfect. I had it happen on Gamecube.
14:47 I'm right there with you on that one. It took me ages to beat the Biolizard for the first time. I remember when I first got it down to the last hit I paused to tell my older brother about it but in my excitement when I went to unpause I accidentally hit down right before I hit A, which restarted the fight. I actually screamed NOOOO! While my brother was just laughing his ass off.
I can feel the pain!! That must have been heartbreaking, did you manage to beat him in the end mate? XD
@@challengerjakku1943 I did beat him a few tries later but the accidental reset was absolutely soul crushing.
14:48 I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who found this boss to be infuriating as a child (even though it kinda turned out to be simple). I wasted so many lives on this boss alone, I thought I'd never beaten it the game because of it.
I'm right with you 😂, this boss was so brutal back then. Then you have final hazard and he's sooo easy!
IIRC, when you locked on to the ring box, you could have just kept the B button held for long enough and it would eventually time out.
Cannons core was such a pain on my first playthrough of sa2, I was oblivious to the fact the air necklace existed and also didn't think to grind lives out before playing, I ended up just using cheats to skip the level
I can relate so much!! I didn't even know about it until my childhood mate nial showed me in school, one of the most useful power ups and they hid it so well! 😭

I loved how detailed this video was and it was a great run, i do know a few things which could have made the run a bit easier, such as how going behind the artificial chaos makes it so they cant hit you when they expose their weak spot without turning around, its annoying that the rail at the beginning of sonic's segment are unavoidable though 😔 your tip about using the homing attack to keep your distance from the biolizard was very helpful, definitely a great video :)

You know what confuses me about that rail? It isn't like Sonics hanging over a bottomless pit, the tunnel has solid collision so it's just baffling they decided to keep him locked onto it. XD
I saw this video in my recommendations right after starting a different video, went "OOOH!" and immediately clicked, abandoning that other video. I love challenge run videos, and yours are _amazing,_ so this was legitimately exciting to see.

@@challengerjakku1943 A great video as usual. And call me biased, but I wouldn't count either the rings at the start of Sonic's section of Cannon's Core, or the rings you gain in the Finalhazard fight.
I don't count the Cannon's Core rings because you don't _collect_ them. They're _given_ to you. The game says *_HERE_* and shoves them down your throat. I generally don't think cases like that, where the game forces you to do the thing you're trying to avoid (coins/rings, damage, death, etc.), should count. I mean it's worse than if you just started with them, or collected them in a cutscene, but if you have no control of the character, I wouldn't count it as a failure. Because _you_ didn't _do_ anything. _You_ didn't _fail_ to avoid anything. The *_game_* did that.
As for Finalhazard, you're not "collecting" the rings, they're just "appearing" in your... inventory? Anyway, you gain the rings, but you aren't collecting anything, so that _really_ shouldn't count.
So I personally see this run as an absolute win.

Final hazard was a weird one kinda like srb2, so I did feel comfortable calling it ringless. Canons core I just never felt happy with excusing the rings at the time since sonic actually collects them, but you're right there should be some leincency for mandatory rings going forwards! 🥰
There's a mod that can fix the effects in the cutscenes like red flashing to make it actually work and take up the full size rather than just some of it. I dont' know the mod but I know it exists
I'll have to check it out! To be honest I got the cutscenes from TH-cam, since the game constantly crashes on my rig. 😅

I always find it crazy that the final story, Robotnik is actually helping to save the day, Yet once they succeed, He goes back to trying to defeat Sonic and conquer the world
I think it's because he wanted to conquer the world rather than destroying it, which just begs the question... Why did he want the eclipse cannon exactly?
@@challengerjakku1943 Maybe a bargainning chip, If they don't comply, He'll threaten to blow up the entire planet
@@challengerjakku1943 I believe like a nuke he wanted the Eclipse Cannon for threatening the presidents of Earth into giving him control. Like a "Give me the earth or i will destroy everyone." Which he prove he was capable by blowing half the moon. He simply wanted all emeralds so the charge time wasn't hours long because that would give Sonic a chance to stop him. Since with faster charging he can just treaten to destroy parts of the earth if Sonic tried to stop him.
@@darkheroes7875 That does make sense, however at the start of the last story he's bewildered at the fact that the eclipse cannon wasn't firing. So in that case I have to wonder, what was he intending to fire at?
@@challengerjakku1943 he wasn't planning to blow the planet up with the full power of the cannon, he was planning to blow up part of the country to show that he is serious about world domination.
for the biolizard it is easy when you learn the glitch where near its tail you spam and i mean SPAM there and you would go up then you would go high enough to hit his weak point and for the final hit when you float move near to the end of the platform (next to the boss) and then you would be much closer to the weak point and have a less chance to get hit and dont somersault in the bosses weak point at the end or you would get hit.
I did try that glitch funnily enough off screen, I just couldn't get it to work consistently enough.
@@challengerjakku1943 after a while of practice it gets easy and now i am doing it consistently and it is now easy so just practice enough then you will be able to do it.

Okay... not sure if anyone has told you, but when you locked on to that ring container at 5:45 you actually didn't need to do anything. If you just wait a few seconds the lock on will end and not fire. Not sure why it does that, but it does.

@@challengerjakku1943 I'd say watch my videos. XD but that'll take a while. But Vergil is fast, aggressive, loves to stunlock you, loves to parry your attacks, deflects bullets, has ranged slashes, varied combos, and from Round 2 onward will use Devil Trigger against you. Devil Trigger speeds you up, makes you hit harder, and regens HP while active, and he can stay transformed for a while.

Eggman and Robotnik are the same dude, in Japan he was always called Eggman. Robotnik is a western thing.
Gerald Robotnik is Eggman's grandfather.

Sonic heroes will be the next ringless challenge, but I'll be doing a few other challenges just for a break.
The game is just too big for me to tackle straight away.

Im gonna be controversial and say that because he doesn't have to physically collect any rings as Super Sonic, it doesn't actually count.
But it's already a loss for a lot of other bs reasons in earlier parts and even in cannons core in this very episode.
