  • Ahoy Sailors and/or Nature Lovers. In this video, my trusty first mate, Jack the Salty Dog, joins me as we sail to anchor at Willow Cove, just below the White's Landing Complex on Santa Catalina Island. Once we arrive, Jack and I explore the cove and describe the plants and habitat we find. Additionally, we celebrate 500 nautical miles with our boat, S.v. californica, and grateful for all you viewer for coming along for the ride.

Thank you for watching our exploration of Willow Cove on Santa Catalina Island, Stay tuned as we explore by sailboat more anchorages and discuss the natural history, ecology, and native plants that occur in these regions.
🦊 Caution! As a plant nerd, I admitted have more to learn about the conservation of other creatures. One example is the threat to the Island Fox on Catalina (Urocyon littoralis catalinae). Although this species has made a triumphant recovery thanks to the efforts of the Catalina Island Conservancy and Institute for Wildlife Studies, the fox faced near extinction on the island due to a lethal strain of canine distemper (virus). On occasion, I have let @jack.the.salty.dog off-leash while on island, which can lead to situations that endanger the island fox. I will correct this habit moving forward and encourage other boaters with dogs to do the same when visiting the island. For more Information, check out the story and how you can help the Island Fox In Catalina Island:

Loved this trip. I camped at Willow Cove in 2010 after sailing my Catalina Capri 22 from Dana point. Each night was a restless one with a strong breeze that came up each night. I double anchored at night and still woke up each hour to check the boat. Between that and the critters that nuzzled up to my tent I never sleet more than a few hours. Stil, it was a memorable trip.

Love it bud. Keep it up. Great plant ID's and info as well as cool info on the anchorages. Clean edits n the sound is clear. I'm a new sailor as well and am in my 4rth year of refitting my sailboat and trying to take her out as much as possible.

@@AXISMEDIATV that’s so cool! What kind of boat do you have? Feel free to message me @sv.californica on Instagram of you’d like an extended dialog. I’d love to hear your story and curious of your experience as a sailor. You’re well ahead of me. I took my first lesson last July and bought californica in October 2020. I really didn’t get to sailing her until March/April of this year.

Santana sailing sells them. I believe the author, Marc Hughston teaches courses there. www.santanasailing.com/courses?tag=Anchoring%20at%20Catalina

Is there a morring ball at willow or something already for you to clip into? Or did you drop your own anchor that part confused me?
