Great advice on the root growth Wade! It seems how roots get used to growing, is most likely how they'll thrive (not changing on current growth media/environment). Even with the most harshest extremes (most likely less water/humidity); roots can find a way to thrive better (thicker velamen, cortex, etc...). Nonetheless, transitioning to a new environment is indeed key! Your videos are so laid-back. Much needed (now).

Thank you for sharing your technique. I agree too that cork bark is better for orchids. When I mount orchids, I use it.

If you are mounting your orchids especially on cork, if you use Spag moss with them it will help raise the humidity around the roots. I live in SW Sydney Australia and mainly grow Bulbophyllums but I also have Sarcochilus species, Coelogyne species and Dendrobium species. Our weather is caried and considered temperate. We get lows of -3°C and Highs of 50°C humidity can be anywhere between 30-60% I water my mounted orchids daily and use a variety of mounts, Cork, hardwood, tree fern and branches off of callistemon, leptospermum and melaleuca species. If your humidity is low you must water mounts daily! Even in winter.

This was "in the can" for almost a month. Looking at the plant a month later it hasn't grown much in topgrowth or roots but the weather but I don't think it's unusual. The plant looks very healthy and will probably start active growth when the weather warms a bit.

Heya, I was wondering if I could shoot you an email to talk to you about your journey as an orchid grower and hybridizer, and what you look for in your crosses or plants. It would be amazing to have a quick interview with you!

Hi from South Africa. Thanks for the lovely video, I mount as many orchids as possible in my collection as it saves space by growing vertically and it helps with preventing rotted roots by overwatering....also the plants just look more natural. Can you please do a greenhouse update soon?
    Kind Regards

Hello Yusuf. I'll be doing a greenhouse update soon. Because everyone is staying at home because of Covid 19 I will try to do more videos.Be safe and be thankful. Even though we are seperated from one another, we are all together in this.

That sounds like an excellent idea! I should save one for myself before they're all gone and do the same thing.

Another masterpiece Wade!! When wrapping the fishing line around the orchid and its roots , would you have placed some sheet moss or sphagnum moss over the roots so the line doesn't cut into the roots or the orchid?

It doesn't seem to bother the roots. Also, as I mentioned in the video, these roots were pretty much arial and just wrapped inside the net pot with almost no media and as such probably wouldn't tolerate being covered.

Wade, do you have any of the yellow and brown Oncidium you have in a video from 2016, I think. I want to buy one. Thanks.
