The Orchid Tube Project
มุมมอง 2.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a way to grow Bulbophyllums and other orchids that have long rhizomes between their growths. It has the added bonus of adding humidity to the immediate area around the plant. What could be better?!?! This does require a bit of work and some tools to complete but I think the results will be well worth it. Hope you enjoy.

When to Water Catasetums
มุมมอง 4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Catasetinae come out of dormancy at different times. This will give you a better idea of when to start watering and also repotting tips!
Mounting Orchids
มุมมอง 1.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Many orchids need to be mounted to be at their best. This is a demonstration of mounting an Angraecum didieri. There are also tips on mounting orchids with other needs. As I mention in the video, mounted orchids typically need humidity over around 70% to do well.
Back To Basics: How to Repot Paphiopedilums
มุมมอง 4K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Many people buy Paphiopedilums and are unsure what the best method and media is to repot them. Hopefully this will answer the questions. If there is something you'd like to know, please add a comment and I will do my best to help you. Thanks all!
December 2019 Greenhouse Tour

Merry Christmas to all! I hope you enjoy this tour. I had some problems and had to edit this twice because the save file corrupted but at least I had the original copy.
September 2019 Greenhouose Tour
มุมมอง 8K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Summer's end beckons the start of the Catasetum season, a family of plants that go dormant during winter. Habenaris are in bloom which also go dormant during winter. These are both good for growing in homes where the winter's heat causes humidity to plummet.
Dividing Grace Dunn
มุมมอง 4.9K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows how to divide and repot Catasetum alliance plants. It also shows a lot of the cultural methods that I used with Clowesia Grace Dunn 'Looking Glass' that received a 92 CCE/AOS in January this year. Hope you enjoy it.
Repotting Dormant Habenarias
มุมมอง 1.9K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Habenarias are extremely easy to grow and bloom with one caveat: the go dormant in the fall and stay dormant through winter. I made this video to show how easy it is to repot the dormant tubers.
Dendrobium victoria reginae
มุมมอง 3.6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a beautiful Dendrobium that has been blooming in the greenhouse. This is difficult to grow without greenhouse conditions.
A Stenorrynchos for Christmas
มุมมอง 1.1K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a genus of easy to grow terrestrials and two of them flower just in time for Christmas for me. Hope you enjoy this and warm holiday wishes to everyone!

What is the width of the flower? I have NOID orchid that Google lens says it’s this orchid, mine is 6”
Is your intermedia fragrant? And if so what does it smell like to you? I'm looking to id an orchid and it has an amazing fragrance and intermedia is one of my guesses but I've never been around one or seen or smelled one in person
Who was it you said made that tolumnia? Or where is it you get such different looking ones? I'm always looking. -L
Gosh. Just amazingly beautiful. Don't know how I haven't seen your channel before but I subscribed. Love the illustry?? No idea how to spell that but it is very very nice. What do you think it smells like to you??
Hi Wade. This is such a great video. I have a pleurothallis rowelli amd shes not doing great. Im going to try putting her in a terracotta pot with sphagnum moss but i cant work out if she has rot or heat stress on her leaves...how can i help her?
Beavis and Butt-Head on his shirt- "He said moneyshot"
Hi Wade, I hope you are doing well, I wanted to say I really miss your videos
this nepenthes is a boy. won't get seed from it
How Tall are these phrag in maturity?
They really are fairly small. The flower spikes are about 14 inches tall.
Maybe I best not buy this one, my house in san francisco is 60F at night most days of the year and goes up to maybe 65-70 in summer only
Hi Wade, I hope all is going well for you, I miss your Greenhouse tours and seeing you vast Orchid collection. Take care
Fantastic video🌿💚🌿
Beautiful
I soak the barks mix before I repot ….
A lot of people do that. It’s not practical when you have to pot up to 100 plants a day.
I bought this orchids - beautiful - ❤️ not rebloom …..
Wow! It’s a beauty. I’ve been hoping to find a coelogyne cristata but can never find it. Thanks for sharing, Wade. I’m thinking of adding this to my collection instead as it’s available to me and just as beautiful. I have the perfect spot in the garden. 🥰
Best for you
Wade can you tell me if you can divide the bulbs to propagate the Psycosis Thank you
They hate being divided. Even repotting can be fatal. Anything that disturbs the roots should be avoided if possible. This video was a number of years ago. I repotted it and it never grew another bulb. The spikes bloomed for a couple years and the leaves held on for a long time but no new growths and it eventually died. 😪
After repotting, should you place the plant in lower light for a while as I heard that might reduce stress?
Ok
It is a species that originated in Korea, Japan, and China.
What's the name of the third orchid? The transcript are never spelling things correctly
It is Stenorhynchus speciosum. I had thought that it was glicensteinii but it’s not.
Thank you, I just started getting into jewel orchids, for the moment I have 3 varieties. The Macodes petola, the ludisia discolor, and sanderiana x limii hybrid
Thanks for this great indepth video. If you are still around, which would you say are the most warm tolerant species? winter gets cold here but summer nights are never below 22 c/ 72 f
There is a place called Andy’s Orchids. Go on that site and look at the temperature requirements. Pleur. grobii is very tolerant. Masd. florabunda and Restrepia straita are good picks. Try potting with sphagnum moss or NZ tree fern fiber in clay pots to keep the roots cool. Best of luck!
@@wadesorchids7219 thanks so much for the recommend and website! ill have to investigate the temp diff created by a wet leca tray or pot. bare in mind that cold to touch can just mean highly conductive! 20c air is warm but 20c water is cold!
Hi Wade, I was wondering why you use clay pots for this Psychopsis and not the usual plastic and have you ever just used Sphagnum Moss for a Psychopsis
Sphagnum moss will do fine for Psychopsis. I made the video several years ago. Clay works for me because I can water frequently. Plastic might be better for you. Remember that you want it to be a bit moist but not soggy. Hope I’ve helped.
@@wadesorchids7219 ❤ thank you
Magnificent ! I really like your practical setup too ! 😍. I would love to see a video on that too thank you for sharing
Who's channel is this,? If it's the guy in the blue shirt, great. Get rid of the other guy who keeps talking over you. He's annoying.
Best informative video for cuttings. I appreciate your dedication and love for these plants.
I just planted mine in cactus mix with extra pumice pearlite and orchid bark in a terracotta pot so hope it works. Found it in a garden centre planted in soggy soil I thought too airy of mixture might shock the roots. No clue what kind of cymbidium it is
Wow, amazing blooms Wade, I am on my brother's computer... it is me Ileana Valerio Padilla... lol Amazing as always.🥰🌸💮🌺
I just bought this kind of plant and I am trying to find info on it. Strange question, is it okay to take it outside and hang it in my outdoor patio on warm muggy days?
Love your oncidium collections. I will look at your videos for some updates, I am glad I found your channel. Thanks.
Thanks
I know this video is 8 years old (!!!) but I just love your channel! Every time I I go looking for orchid info YOU have already made a beautiful and useful video on it! You and your channel are an incredible resource! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much! Btw, I made a hybrid with bractescens and Enc. Mary Motes. The first one is in bud. I’m looking every day for it to open!
"Dendrochilums" sounds like an awesome veggie Dendrobiums grow in an occasional break from growing flowers
You have beautiful orchids.
What’s the best potting mix you use for Onciduim?
Do they need dark pots or are the clear pots just as good ?
Does anyone know how long it takes for these to mature or develop a spike ? I bought mine awhile ago and was told it was a mature orchid. It is a nice size and orchid and It's really beautiful just as it is BUT I really can't wait to get a spike and a bloom .
A mature plant will have a leaf size of about 10" tall.
@@wadesorchids7219Thank you for getting back to me. It looks like I was fibbed to or else the orchid dealer was unaware . My longest leaf at this time is only 9 inches after all this time of having it. Well at least I know now and I guess I will be enjoying the leaves for a while longer until I finally get that spike I am so looking forward too appearing . Thank You again.. I really enjoy watching and learning from video's on orchids as I am just learning to care for them.. Hopefully this old dog can learn a new trick and get the hang of them..
Would this mix work for a Zygopetalum Louisendorf Rein Moonlight I have. Two of the bulbs are nearly the size of lemons?
I have Zyg. Louisendorf. Zygos grow in straight sphagnum moss for me. As long as you don't overpot they should do very well.
@@wadesorchids7219 thanks,
Thanks so much needed your expert instructions from a few of your videos Thanks!!!!!! Love Carolyn
I just purchased this orchid. Can you help me as to what type of medium I should pot it in? I live in northern Ohio. It will be in my home in a west facing window. Hanging from my ceiling studs. I would appreciate any help. It’s too beautiful to pass up on. Thx. Love your channel and knowledge. Thank you.
When you water those will you soak...for how long? Or will you just run water through several times? Thanks
I just water them from the top with the other orchids. Very small seedlings (just out of flask) get a heavy misting almost every day.
@@wadesorchids7219 that's what I've been doing. I have a couple of large ones I let soak a bit. I mist then have a fan running till the mist drys. Thanks
Amazing blooms.
Wade, Where can we get lava rock? I’ve only found it for bar-b-cues…? Becky
Would love a Grace Dunn orchid when you sell them...please
“And wade touches them quite a bit”😅
Just wondering if you stopped posting on TH-cam
Hello! Thank you for your informational video. I just acquired a Mtssa. Shelob 'Okika' today at our local orchid show. I had a beautiful Brassia rex years ago, but lost it to root rot/watering issues, and also am currently struggling with a Bllra. Your "leaf spotting" portion was very helpful!
I’m currently trying to remember to spray monthly with a fungicide (Cleary’s 3336) in hopes of keeping the leaves clear. I’m not getting complete success but it does help. There are other wide spectrum fungicides available but some get expensive.
Got two orchids from you in the MD show, looking forward to visit your greenhouse
