Finding An Alternative To Sakura Craft Lab Gel Refills

  • If you have one the pricey Sakura Craft Lab pens you might have noticed that the company uses strange refills, like their proprietary Sakura Craft Lab R-LGB05A ( ebay.us/g3bqFy ). These refills aren't easy to find and they are hard to replace with more common pen refills. I did a lot of testing to try to find a solution to this problem.

    I'm a huge fan of the Craft Lab pens.
    I have been using the refills from the 'Sakura Ballsign iD Gel Pen'. They just need to be trimmed to length. The other dimensions match. The ink feels almost exactly the same.
    I've tested this hack in the 001, 003, 005 & 007. For Craft Lab 003, the cut went into the goop follower. The 004 uses D1 refills. I don't own the 006 & 002. The 006 is on the grail pen level.
    Thanks for all the pen videos they have been super helpful.

    Sakura gel refills are readily available in all colors at JetPens. I picked up the blue-black and green-black colors for my 001 and love how they write!

    During my journey to find compatible Gel refills for my Montblanc Ballpoint pens, I found that the Jetstream 101 refills fits well even the old and thin Noblesse series. Just trim it down to size and fatten it up in a certain area(s) if necessary. Although, now I can 3D print a sleeve and/or an adapter for it. As well, the spring may need to be shortened too. For other models, I did find a Gel refill that works but need to thin out some area too. 🙂

    Maybe try the slim version of the Cross Gel refill for the Craft Lab 2 pen.

    Wow, what a lovely collection of pen designs, but that's a massive disappointment that they try to lock you in to proprietary refills. Terrible business practice that just totally ruins these otherwise beautiful utensils.

    Thanks for the information! Maybe a solid piece of extender will work for 001?

      Yea I’m still perfecting it! Often a toothpick works for example

    Why not just re-used the refill, by injecting ink into it and sealed it with follower?

    • @unsharpen
      @unsharpen  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ve successfully done this before?

      @@unsharpen I have successfully done the stabilo bionic injected it with Pelikan 4001 ink, it writes perfectly. for this smaller refill, I have yet to try it. But I am gonna test it out when I used up my refill.

    I was just wondering about this, thanks. While probably mostly meant to make the pen proprietary, does the snug fit on the refill at least prevent rattle and tip motion, etc? I would love to find more pens that have the 'refill solidity' of the TWSBI Precision and stuff like that.

      Yes there is no rattle. It’s definitely a perk with a tight fit like this
