    I’m an old gal, but noting replaces the experience of an old fashioned chalk board. I have an antique slate and the famous metal chalk holder with vintage chalk and eraser. Nothing is better. Sigh 💕Anyone else remembers the special treat of cleaning the chalkboard or “clapping” the erasers as a special treat. The smell of the linseed oil. Love it.

      @@TheGiddyGardener When I moved to NC back in 2000 the older buildings in the elementary school where I had been hired still had chalkboards and overhead projectors. Because 3 of the teachers in 2nd and 3rd had transferred or retired I actually got to choose which classroom I wanted which is not something that happens often. The one I chose actually had chalkboards on 2 walls. 1 on the length and the other on the width because the classrooms in the new buildings had white boards I was allowed to use some of my materials money to purchase white board panels which the maintenance crew installed on the longer wall. As a new teacher in our school system I was given an extra $500 to purchase supplies for my classroom which was a blessing because other teachers had taken pretty much everything out of my classroom and I literally had 1 teacher desk, 1 chair, a file cabinet that was empty, a empty storage cabinet and no student desks. They were able to locate most of the teachers manuals and a few textbooks for the students and they had to purchase new items to replace everything else. The same thing happened when I switched to first grade 4 years later because they were expecting a much larger number of students in first grade and I actually moved into a kindergarten classroom which had tables and not desks. I had to separate anything that was kindergarten so it could be stored until needed and gather the first grade materials from each of the other teachers on the team. I got really lucky and was brought brand new student desks when our principal put in the request for desks for me. It really is crazy how much everything has changed in education because kindergarten is more like first and almost second grade and head start preschool is more like kindergarten. It is really interesting to see how different the schools are and how different the curriculum can be in each school district and in each state. I have taught in 3 different states and 5 different schools as I earned my teaching degree as different universities start your exposure to the classroom setting at different times some in your freshman year and others not until your junior year. I definitely prefer starting earlier because it makes you feel more comfortable and confident in what you are doing.

  • @purplesmooshything
    @purplesmooshything 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Phillip, no truer words were ever spoken than your closing words. All of my children are adults now and I can't explain how much I miss them being tiny humans. Many of my friends were so eager for their children to grow up. Not me! One of my best, fun memories was while feeding my babies their baby food, I would teach them to stick out their tongue and do the pfffft sound. Baby food would go all over them, all over me, all over the floor, etc and we would laugh so hard (which only made them do it more) then off to flood the bathroom floor from all of the splashes. Regarding the fumes from the paint.....put a few drops of vanilla into the paint can and stir well. It will make your home smell like you're baking! My husband works for Bank of America and that's what they do! It really works!

      @@ecueto395 it is all AD/HD. You are either hyper or hypo. There is no such thing as ADD

    • @ecueto395
      @ecueto395 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kaymccormick2279 that’s actually incorrect…
      Under the ADHD umbrella there are three types:
      ADHD-Predominantly Hyperactive, ADHD-Predominantly Inattentive, and ADHD- Combined type. You can have hyperactivity and also be inattentive, which is the combined type.
      I now know a significant amount of information about ADHD and I have done a ton of research (🤯🥵). I was diagnosed with ADD at age 8/9 in the early 2000’s but nobody actually gave any real information on what it meant, why I had it, what the characteristics of it were, etc. all I was told was that I was being diagnosed with ADD, my dad had ADHD, and it was basically because I was behaviorally problematic. It was very rare for girls to be diagnosed with ADHD at that time, if you were a girl you were typically given a diagnosis of ADD. Since ADHD’s hyperactive characteristics look different in girls than it does in boys (typically) they missed a lot of people with ADHD in my generation because of the diagnosis being so misunderstood by so many, including those that were doing the diagnosing.
      I’d definitely recommend doing some research on it since so much has changed now that there is a more accurate understanding of it. There were/are so many misconceptions about ADHD and hopefully with the new research and those that have it being more open about their experiences it can be better understood by Neurotypicals as well as the neurodiverse people that have it. Hopefully, we can eventually change the stigma surrounding it and the misconceptions of those with it “just being lazy” or “everyone is a little ADHD”.
      I’ve been incredibly fascinated by the newer research and have definitely done a lot of deep delving (hyper-focused mode of course lol) into the subject. Also, I’ve just started reading ‘ADHD 2.0’ co-written by Edward M. Hallowell, M.D. and John J. Ratey, M.D.
      I am enjoying it thus far! I’ve heard great recommendations for it as well!
      I hope that you don’t view this comment as me being rude or trying to out do you, just wanted to let you know and share some of what I’ve researched with you so that you can be well informed. Especially since in your initial comment you used “We” so I’m assuming that you have ADHD as well!(:

      If you want any recommendations of pages to follow, groups to join, channels to watch, etc. let me know! I’ve found a few really good ones!(:

    Alex, blanching is a good way to get rid of any of the 'ugly' tomatoes with blossom rot or awkwardly shaped. Fill a dutch oven 3/4 full of water, bringing to a rolling/hard boil. While it is coming to a boil, de-stem, wash, and cut out the centres first, while the fruit is still solid, getting the white fibrous middle; blanch in boiling hot water, cool in cold water, then remove the skins (hopefully you don't have any open cuts/bug bites on your hands, if so wear vinyl gloves, the acidity will sting your sores), over a large bowl (to catch all the drips), and transfer into containers (we use empty margarine, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, oval Spinach Dip from Costco - safe to freeze in, but I always allow it to un-mold from the round container before microwaving if neccessary ) and freeze for a future large batch of homemade salsa, pasta sauce, when you have more fruit on hand or add a container/or jar to your meat for lasagne/chili, once fully cooked. Fresh, home grown tomatoes also make the best fresh salsa and it will keep in the fridge for 2 - 4 days, just portion it out, to portions for each day so that it doesn't get cross-contaminated with your dipping tortillas or whatever you choose. I love to make a homemade, farm grown tomato soup that I add a Bechamel Sauce to. Movie recommendation: Julia and Julie (2009) - the life story of Julia Child. A Canadian farm-raised (cow-calf, grain, large gardens and at one time had a tomato greenhouse from re-purposed windows; that burned in November 2017) country woman passing along my knowledge.

    When you construct the blackboard. I recommend that you make it with cork board.
    The advantages include light weight and versatility because you can pin things to it.
    You can also frame some and give each child an art space to display their creations. Each of my children also had a clear file 100 page folder to put their creations into. That way they got to keep their treasures, and could also look back and see how their skills were improving. These files also kept things tidy which helped keep me sane.

The kids would want to run around and play, but couldn't if there's workers vehicles driving in and out. Plus, staying at an RV park is fun. Plenty of room to ride bikes, meet other kids, play at the park(s) have picnics, and be in nature.
      I feel like for them, it's more about the overall experience of going to the RV park.

    Happy Friday was waiting for a video 😁.. school room is looking great! To add to the chalk board idea ,you could also do a board or wall or spot with magnetic paint . Cassidy could make lots of fun things and the big girls could too. We are buying our first home and I think I'm going to do an area for the kids . Much love and🙏... 🌻 Have a happy safe weekend .

    I know i hate the paint fumes so what i do to help with the fumes i put some vanilla extract (not too much) it does help lower the fumes. I truely love that room. Alex you and phil work well with each other 😀. I love doing projects with my husband all the time.

      I like the accent wall behind the shelving. I was hoping they'd keep it, because white walls and white shelving and trim is gonna be way too much white. Even with maps and pops of colors on the other walls.

    You guys should go down to David crocket state park in Lawrenceburg, lots to do. Amish country wagon tour is amazing, stillhouse hollow falls is a great hike (maybe when cooler outside). The park has a pool(not sure it opend this year) lots of creek to play in, and I think a small museum.

    • @carolinemikkelsen8516

      I imagine it’s less tempting to go into the house if your away from the house. Not to mention driving the RV to dump the tanks sucks, at a full hook up site no need to dump. Plus, family time

    White board VS Chalk Board ..... chalk board can produce dust in the air when erasing (unless you are lucky enough to find the yellow chalk sticks ..... plus those did not have the tendency to squeak when writing) ...... the pens used on white boards have an odor that can be very strong ...... maybe not so desirable for the little one to be breathing ...... what to choose, what to choose.
