His stagecraft here is amazing -- the laughing joking musician at the start, and then right as the song begins he's in character, without changing his clothes or anything, someone completely different. What a performer.
Bit of trivia for all you who keep asking, why hasn't he been knighted like Mick or Elton? Welp, he refuses to accept the Queen's offer. Man standing by his principles.
I have been listening to Davids music since I was about 13. I was lucky enough to see him live twice. I"m now 55 and still just as much into his timeless music. He will be very much missed.
+tom Dilbert nope, we are thoroughly recycled when our bodies die, i.e., we finally really become a part of this planet and universe, i.e., we go home.
Love this type of Bowie sound. Its dark and raaaaaaaaaww. Also like industrial inspired sounds from Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Allflaws
"The invasion by any homogenised culture is so depressing, the erection of another Disney World in, say, Umbria, Italy, more so. It strangles the indigenous culture and narrows expression of life." GREAT SONG
Besides being hella sexy in this (especially the salute), I love the fact that Bowie never does this song the same way 2x. Every performance I've seen is different (from the way he sings and acts to the arrangement) and they all sound amazing! This song is, hands down, my fav Bowie song.
Holy!! This was put on here 17 years ago? I remember when "EART HL I NG" (EARTHLING) came out in 97. It feels like yesterday. I really liked it, maybe my favorite album of his from the 90ies until he passed. This song "clicked" with me the 1st time I heard it. My wife & I took our daughter of 9 or 10 yrs to see him in 2000? - 2001? He put on a fantastic show (of course)! He played songs from throughout his entire career. After it was over, & we were walking to the car, I said I was happy that he played THIS song, My wife said which song SHE was happy to hear, & our lovely little daughter (who had just seen her 1st big concert) looked up at at both of us & excitedly said "I'M just happy he played "ZIGGY STARDUST!"! That made BOTH of US smile just as big as she did. It was a PERFECT evening!! We are all still HUGE FANS & listen to him often. We all talked & cried when he passed & sometimes it still hits hard. Thank you for the post & the memory. Posted 17 YEARS AGO?! That's what REALLY made me stop & think about it. I've watched this MANY times B4, but I only noticed it today!! I DO love this performance of this song - THAT'S 4Sure!! Peace!!
Amazing live performance... Great with the wind in his hair and all... : ) Have you guys noticed how he always introduce us to his musicians and chorists? I went to his "Reality Tour", and after having sung "Under Presure" with one of his chorists, he stepped back and gave her the whole scene for people to cheer for her. He's a great talent who also respects and encourage the talent of others... A true music legend without the Diva attitude... Love him!
The day I saw the news that Bowie I sat there with my jaw on the floor for 10 minutes and I cried I was so hurt he had to endure the pain of cancer but he used his last moments to be creative and left behind a beautiful last album which has success.
this is just PERFECT!!!!!!! 0.0 can't even explain the way i feel while i'm listening and watching this....perfect movements, facial expressions, bass guitar, drums...his voice-sexiest ever! *******David forever********♡♡♡
I was on 5 concerts of Bowie. 1983 serios moonlight Tour, it was the best concert in my life. 1990 Sound and Vision, 1988 Tin Machine, 1996 outside Tour an 2002 Reality. Bowie is my hereo. I am so thanful for his work and his influence of my life. So. so cool and warm and a very good sense of humor!
Hello, I am the one of them who loving Bowie and I am Japanese. I think he is only an artist not a politician. and think also what he wanted to say or represent was just an aspect of that time. Now I can say this song is just a song. I love it.
Damn! Bowie is such an incredible class act! Perfect video. It's as if Bowie freakin' invented..."Cool"! You can FEEL how much he really, really loves performing this song. Goosebumps!

I know I am stating the obvious, but Bowie was one of the creative and original artists of all time. I can't think of another performer that reinvented himself many times and had success most of the time having done so.
Dude was a musical chameleon and was always an innovator. Even his works that I don't care for have their own brilliance regardless of how I feel about them.
+tom Dilbert I'm sorry to read you're having trouble accepting your homosexuality. Once you stop fighting who you obviously are your hatred will subside. Until then I bid you so long.
Did you know that in another universe, David Bowie was a police officer, one of the survivors of the Raccon City outbreak, and a close friend to the US president?
To quote his alter ego Ziggy " With God Given Ass", classic pose indeed, but who's doing today?! Convincingly without eventryingwhilehe'sactingallatoncegotthat?!!!good cause I am tired...
+tom Dilbert all we can hope is to join him there for the biggest, mind blowing concert in all of history. Those who want can sign up for the mass gay orgy afterwards, which will also be fantastic
scary relevant. ...To those who say bowie didnt write political songs only need to watch his moves during this political song. He absolutely was a profit.
Alot Americans derived from Europe, were a mix of so many cultures. If thats scarry, But Ive loved you since my teens, Ibought your music, and always admired it.
I'm afraid of the American police, and whoever carried out the Vietnam and Iraq wars. I'm afraid of all the Americans who trained and supported the fascist armies throughout Latin America. I'm afraid of the Americans who're now destroying Yemen and Palestine. Just what the fuck is wrong with Americans, for Christ's sake?!
wow....this is better than most live performances. wish i woulda been there. kinda gives me chills, but like, im really relaxed listening to this.....while i do re-writes on my screenplay. This man inspires me so much!
Perfect representation of Bowie : relaxed, funny, cool, clever, sophisticated...and thoroughly rocking that house down.
I couldn’t agree more.
Hella
Song ricks my core. Its his best
And grabbing his crotch in the meantime
...or is he just acting out a character who's relaxed, funny, cool, clever, sophisticated...
If any man deserves to be immortal, it is David Bowie
flexorder YEEEES! agreeee
We are all wishing this wasn't true today. My heart is broken...
truth!
+flexorder But he is. David Bowie has achieved the kind of immortality few will ever achieve - through his incredible contributions to the human race.
he died
Dear David-any sensible person is afraid of of Americans!!!!

I'm afraid of NATO!!!
@@veritasuno3304 and canadians, but their are part of America too so...
This song was way ahead of its time.
This song might be the most timeless song I’ve ever heard
No one can deny this song speaks for the world on so many levels lol
His silk suit is killing it. Yes, he did get sexier as he got older. Can't get enough of the live videos. Such a strong performer, David Bowie.
No doubt!
+jo pipes perfection
@Laverne Johnson lol
God he was SUCH a majestic performer, wasn't he? There will never be another like him. RIP Spaceman
God wasn't a majestic performer, but, David Bowie definitely was. God is an American. Jeez, didn't you even listen to the song?!?

His stagecraft here is amazing -- the laughing joking musician at the start, and then right as the song begins he's in character, without changing his clothes or anything, someone completely different. What a performer.
unbeknownst how he did that
Yes indeed, what a great performer. So much talent in one man.
his words have an important message for america, watch out for the wolves from the Right, ESP now with putins plan to undermine america...woRking
Bit of trivia for all you who keep asking, why hasn't he been knighted like Mick or Elton? Welp, he refuses to accept the Queen's offer. Man standing by his principles.
+tom Dilbert You're back! Yay!
+Anatomy Cat Can't we just find some way to keep him from posting? Maybe flag him?
I believe he said “ I just wouldn’t know what to do with it”
The Mormons probably got him though...
Some things as such are NON NEGOTIABLE!!! I can relate
hegot sexier as he got older
+Midn Muse he sure did !!!
+Midn Muse Like me!
+Midn Muse Yes indeedy.
He kept updating his sexiness to keep with the times ;-)
did he ever...younger Bowie was beautiful, but older Bowie was SEXY
I have been listening to Davids music since I was about 13. I was lucky enough to see him live twice. I"m now 55 and still just as much into his timeless music. He will be very much missed.

why the hate Tom Dilbert!

Love this type of Bowie sound. Its dark and raaaaaaaaaww. Also like industrial inspired sounds from Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy,
Front Line Assembly, Allflaws
Great observation about how he incorporated those sounds and yet it was still Bowie. The ultimate musical chameleon.
He wrote this song with Trent Reznor of NIN so that would explain the dark industrial sound.
All very well referenced artists. Sounds like an exact representation of part of my collection of artists.
A man with a Massive Attack pp can only be right. Good tastes.👌
"The invasion by any homogenised culture is so depressing, the erection of another Disney World in, say, Umbria, Italy, more so. It strangles the indigenous culture and narrows expression of life." GREAT SONG
Don't be plastic there vero sol.
Talk about a stage presence. Expressing so much with doing so little. Gutted that he joined the ranks of artists I won't ever see live
this will be playing in the background of the 1/6 commission show tonight. Bowie looks very angry when he sings im afraid of americans, so prophetic
Dammit, I wish I would have seen him live, will miss you Dave...RIP.

Oooohhhhiieeee like fine wine.....gets better with age.
At this stage, he always looked like a guy who came to a Karaoke bar after work, and then just kills it.
I saw Bowie live in his Metal phase around this time. Pretty damn heavy vibe. Great tune. NIN version hits hard too.
