Fantastic explanation! I love the cut list as well. I just painstakingly repainted my daughters hardtop to factory color. We love your videos! Eric from the USA.
Thank you for this! I just finished building my own. Before anyone else considers building this, double check the price of a pre-made stand. PVC and other construction inputs are becoming expensive these days. I didn't realize that my savings was only going to be a few dollars until after everything added up at the register. I would have saved more if I didn't have to buy the PVC cutter. I'm still very happy because I can break down this stand for storage!
Groeten Bernd
Hey Neighbour, thanks for the Video. Was thinking about building one myself due to the horrible pricing for prefabricated ones. First I thought about welding some metal pipes together, but never had the idea of doing it with pvc pipes. Seems strong enough.
I used screws to attach them to the PVC caps. Because it's only screwed onto the PVC itself It's not really strong, but it works if you're careful. In the video I used fixed wheels which cannot spin but I eventually switched to rotating wheels so the hardtop stand is easier to move.
so trying to fined somewhere that sells all this is a challenge and when you do fined somewhere the total come to nearly around the same prices as buying one
Thanks for sharing ! One question, as the plastic is more expensive nowadays, would you be willing to share a simple drawing? Just the internal dimensions, where the hardtop actually touches is enough to compare costs to metal fabrication. Labor is cheaper than materials in some countries :)
I've read multiple stories of hardtops falling down and unfortunately that is the risk when you use a hoist so I would not recommend this. Just build a hardtop stand and you don't risk damaging your hardtop and the surroundings.
The hardtop is light enough to remove it by yourself. If you search for 'Miata Hardtop removal' and click on the video showing a yellow Miata, you'll see what I mean. Good luck kouhai!
Is it correct, that elbows and t-fittings are not exactly 90degrees but 87? Also it's hard for me to find any fittings for gluing at my local store. Did you order them in the internet?
@@MiataMods thank you very much for you answer! In the meantime I managed to buy the correct fittings in the internet; they are 90 degrees now :) the pvc pipes itself I was able to buy in a local hardware store. I used 50mm and the construction looks amazing and seems stirdy enough, even though I didn't glue anything together. Thank you!
Man I went to the hardware stores today to try and build this but it’s gotten to the point that it’s cheaper to buy a metal one off of Amazon than to build my own. What a shame. But thanks for the video!
Hey!!! Gave video weer! Thx alvast!
ok, i just saw the part in your video that you mention 40mm. All my commects are of no use I guess, but it would be helpful if you wrote it in the description.
Hey man, Im also Dutch and looking to buy a NA Miata as my first car. Big car guy and always loved the Miata, recently bought a super clean NB with a friend of mine. But looking to get one for myself. Since you are also Dutch you are probably also very tall. I am 1.98cm closing in on 2m in height. How tall are you, what can I do about it and does it drive comfortabel with your size? In my friends NB my hair is just above the windscreen and it always messes it up, also the steering wheel is pretty pushed up against my legs. I was thinking about removing the seat slider rails to make more space and do the foam delete or just get a new seat al together! Love to hear from you it will really help me out! I am currently looking at this one: www.marktplaats.nl/a/auto-s/mazda/m1300192599-mazda-mx5-1-6-miata-u9-1991-blauw.html?c=9b26ed2a557deff636f4f8b9c5b7a618& What do you think? Succes!
I literally fucking bought a hardtop yesterday and I was thinking how to make a stand for it. You are good man, you are good, just in time.
No problem, glad my video is helpful!
Fantastic explanation! I love the cut list as well. I just painstakingly repainted my daughters hardtop to factory color. We love your videos! Eric from the USA.
Cool now I just need a hardtop
Good luck haha
This is brilliant, took me longer to buy the pipe than make it......It works superb
Thanks!

Yeah everything is getting expensive.. but at the same time the prices of the pre-made stands are going up as well
Just did this, works amazing. Thank you for the video! Hope to see some more content from you. Best wishes!
Will make some new videos later this year, finally 😌

Bedankt Bernd!
You’re a genius! I was about to buy the hoist. You saved me big dinero. Thanks for sharing.
No problem Rolo, glad my video was helpful!
Made mine tonight since summer is coming up, it’s definitely sturdy! Thank you :)
No problem, glad my video was helpful!
Amazing work!! Anybody used same dimensions for NC removable hardtop?
As far as I know these dimensions work for the NC hardtop as well!
Been waiting for a video of this! The forums online were difficult to understand putting together. Thank you!
No problem!
Very clever; thanks for sharing! I don't have a hardtop yet, but if I ever get one, I'll be making a stand just like this!
Thanks, no problem!
Great video. I'm in need of a good way to store my hardtop. Always love your tutorials.
Thanks Tracy! Good luck with building your own 👍
Amazing stuff ! Just got my NA today, and I was thinking how to... and here you are with the perfect solution! Thx Bro !!
No problem! Welcome to the club!
Hey Neighbour, thanks for the Video. Was thinking about building one myself due to the horrible pricing for prefabricated ones. First I thought about welding some metal pipes together, but never had the idea of doing it with pvc pipes. Seems strong enough.
Yes it is, and a lot lighter too!
Thank you very much!
I built the stand, but used bolts + nuts instead of glue.
This way, I didn't need to dryfit - also I couldn't source the glue
Just standard pvc glue? That’s weird.. anyway, thanks for whatching my video tho!
Just made mine! Looks great in the garage. Thank you so much!!!
No problem Anthony, glad my video was helpful!
Just made one here in Puerto Rico, cost me about $80 though. Damn that Jones Act!
Well the fact that you build it yourself is satisfying enough right?
@@MiataMods It was fun and very satisfying
Good! 💪
Never even thought about this, definitely something I’m going to look into now
Good luck building this and if you post it on social media, don't forget to tag me so I can see the end result!
I was waiting for this! Thanks!!!
No problem! Will you be building one yourself?
Yes. The NB2 hardtop has the same size?
Joan Barrera Ortega yes is the same size
Yes they are the same size
Nice job man ! Thanks for the video
No problem Thomas!
Your editing is so much better without the old memes you used to use lmao. Love your videos man
Thanks man! Yeah that was my old editing style and I'm over the whole meme thing..
Great video ! greetings from Slovakia :)
Hello Michal 👋
@@MiataMods Hello Johan, i sold my NA MX5 and bought GT86 , but still love your videos. Great work as always :) I
😔😔 but a GT86 sounds pretty good if I’m honest haha! Enjoy 👍
How did you add the wheels? What types of wheels and how did you attach them? Thanks
I used screws to attach them to the PVC caps. Because it's only screwed onto the PVC itself It's not really strong, but it works if you're careful. In the video I used fixed wheels which cannot spin but I eventually switched to rotating wheels so the hardtop stand is easier to move.
Excellent! Thanks my friend. I think I'll be making one soon.
Cool, good luck!
Cool, I’ll make that for my Corvette hardtop
Yeah I guess that will work as well! Good luck!

Hello Evren, sorry but I don't have a drawing of the internal dimensions, but you can use the PVC pipe sizes to convert that to a drawing. Good luck!
What did you measure on the hardtop to get stand measurements? I have an old mb 450sl thati would like to make a stand for....
To be honest, I just guesstimate the measurements and went from there
I know what I am doing this weekend. Thanks for the great video!
No problem! Did you build the stand already?
Neat and tidy. Good job 👍👍
Thanks!
DIY hardtop hoist please!!!
Muhammed Mujahid I second this!!!
I've read multiple stories of hardtops falling down and unfortunately that is the risk when you use a hoist so I would not recommend this. Just build a hardtop stand and you don't risk damaging your hardtop and the surroundings.
@MiataMods senpai, i don't intend to leave the hardtop in the hoist, i just need a way to remove the hardtop by myself.... halp
The hardtop is light enough to remove it by yourself. If you search for 'Miata Hardtop removal' and click on the video showing a yellow Miata, you'll see what I mean. Good luck kouhai!

Is it correct, that elbows and t-fittings are not exactly 90degrees but 87?

Awesome video! If only i could find an hardtop for my NA here in italy :(
Well if you do, now you know how to store it properly haha
Really helpfull video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks man!
great video - just made a stand £30 - sorted :)
Good job! 👍
Please make more video's😭
Love from Greece😥
Next how-to vid will be online this Friday! Sorry you had to wait so long 😅
Hey!!! Gave video weer!
Really great video, btw I also live in Netherlands
Well hello fellow Dutchman!
Excellent...
Super cool!
Thanks!
Great video, i also like how you googled "how to be less gay with a miata"
Hahaha I wondered if anybody would notice that ;-)
Can you please tell me what's the diameter of the tubes?
I believe 40mm?
ok, i just saw the part in your video that you mention 40mm. All my commects are of no use I guess, but it would be helpful if you wrote it in the description.
I’ve added the info in the video description, thanks for the tip
@@MiataMods where I am, I've found 1" and 2" pipe. 40mm is 1.5". Would smaller be ok too, or is 40mm the minimum for rigidity?
pistachoo no don’t go any smaller. Go for the 2”
Old vid, hopefully I’ll get a response! Do you have a link for the wheels you used or similar?
Eh no not really but if you Google ‘small caster wheels’ you will find what you are looking for
Great vid! Now i just need to save up some more for a hardtop ;-;
Haha good luck man!
Probably, but there is only one way to find out
I'm going to re-engineer this for a wall mount.
Awesome, thanks so much.
Do you also sell miatas ?
No I do not
