Two comments: 1) This is a much better exhaust mod than a new exhaust. The 'highly regarded' exhaust I put on my Boxster S had a resonance between 2700 and 2900 RPM that made cruising almost unbearable. 2) Every time I see a Boxster video when the wheels get pulled I get very nervous - the front and rear wheel studs are not the same length. The front studs are longer and if used on the rear they WILL shear off the the emergency brake mount on the rear suspension knuckle when the car is rolled out of the shop. That's only about a thousand dollar part and another thousand in labor & misc bits plus an alignment to get right. Ask me how I know ...
It looks like you got two right side discs in the front... How can they put back the wheels with that filthy calipers? Nice sound and a smart solution!
Left front disc looks wrong. The vent hole pattern is handed L or R. The holes should sweep backwards toward the edge of the disc on the upper part of the disc. Brembo used to do a Left and Right disc for 996/986
I love everything done in this video, amazing but stealthy exhaust (I love discreet cars), fixing warped brake discs though I hope those Brembos are good (something I currently have, 9 months after installing new Brembos, apparently I ran through water?! Warping seems a common issue with Brembos) and fixing wheels, which causes steering wheel judder at high speeds, which is something my mother's car has because she hit quite a lot of curbs. So a lot of satisfying stuff I would have wanted to get done myself 😄
Just a couple of questions regarding your experience . As i've now fitted the system but I do have some questions: 1) there does appear to be a small amount of exhaust coming out of the valve output when the valves are closed - is this normal? 2) the sound when the valves are closed is louder and bit more throater than stock (not a bad thing at all!) But wanted to check this is normal too? And finally, if this is normal (3) I assume the car will still pass its MOT emissions test when the valves are closed?
So here's the answer having now gone through an MOT The valves make it harder for them to test the exhaust emissions, something to do with extra air (?) and 4 "exits" instead of two (even if the valves are closed). This technically means it should fail an MOT.. a good garage will however be able to deal with it. That being said, I love the modification and installed it myself. Valves off the car sounds better and with them open it sounds like a monster. 😂
Great fun!!!!! I believe exhaust cut-outs were an option on many of the larger cars just after WW1. The gentry of the day would use them during their continental tours. I would imagine the eco nuts would have your video banned. Ha ha.
