Note to those following this tutorial for the *508A* cartridges for the HP M552 & M553 printers: HP have redesigned the cartridge. The tutorial is still mostly relevant, but there are a few differences: 1) there are now two springs on top, and no spring underneath. 2) there is no longer a lever to move to the side in order to separate the two halves (toner & waste units). 3) the charge roller in the waste unit is now not so easy to remove, it has a new holder & spring-loaded bearing design. The bearing on the contact side is VERY fragile; don't try to remove it; it will snap in two as it is made of a conductive brittle black plastic. 4) the gear set is a little different, just make notes of which gears go where, and leave the big gear attached as per the instruction in this video. 5) removal of the developer roller is now different. The end cap on the *contact* side needs to be removed first, with the few white plastic transmission parts. Then another cap underneath that (again on the *contact* side) needs to be pulled off to free the developer roller, but it is held in place by one heat-fused plastic pin. Drill 2-3mm into the centre of this pin to release the end cap holding the developer roller in place. 6) the contacts on the contact side are now made of a conductive black plastic, and are less easy to identify as such. This cartridge has a major design flaw: if the printer is only used sporadically and turned on/off very frequently, the waste collection unit of the cartridge will fill up before enough toner is used. The waste collection chamber will then start to overflow, not only dumping toner inside the printer but also on top of the charge roller contact spring. The charge roller then fails to apply a charge to the imaging drum, which means the imaging drum will start to pick up A LOT more of the toner and dump that straight down the centre of the cartridge onto the scanner & lens units, making the problem very much worse. If these 508A toner cartridges all of a sudden start dumping loads of toner, possibly the waste collection chamber is full and the spilled toner has compromised the electrical contact of the charge roller contact spring. I am currently reconditioning my HP M552 printer that developed this problem; I will report in a few days time if following the above instructions, emptying the waste chamber, and cleaning the charge roller contact spring has worked. But first I also need to disassemble the printer and remove the transfer belt unit and scanner unit for cleaning; so it will take a bit of time...
Update: unfortunately it didn't work. The magenta and cyan cartridges are still dumping loads of toner down the sides; it looks like there is a problem with the doctor blade seal on the sides. These are the original OEM cartridges the printer came with, but they are now 8 years old. As a result of us only printing one or two pages every now and then, this printer has run a relatively large number of calibration and cleaning cycles relative to actual print cycles (that happens every time you turn it on, can't switch that off). This probably has taken its toll on the mechanical parts of the cartridges, but it also looks like the toner itself may be getting too old. Time for a new printer as HP have dropped support for Apple MacOS and no longer provide drivers (Apple's own Airprint is totally inadequate in its colour management, it doesn't know/care about any printer profiles and colour accuracy is _garbage_ ).

Is the spring correctly inserted? there is the over the developer roller? If not the developer roller blade may be defective. But I think there is a component out of position, try disassemble and reassemble the cartridge again

They are used for the calibration. If the lines are not right you have to make a calibration procedure.

On one website, they sold kits with 40 grams of color.
You can buy 3 bottles, or try Uninet or Delacamp, they have that bottles. However most of the HP color toner powder will work
