- Having never been a Watchtower member, I was not fully aware of the beard policy outside of hints I got from ex-members. I had not seen any official statement in their publications, so I was not quite sure there was indeed a no-beard policy until Stephen Lett announced a "clarification" in the last governing body update (number 8) for 2023. This revealed a great deal about the organization including their cultic nature.

My father was held back his entire life for wearing a beard which covered an ugly scar on his chin. He was told that his beard was an obstacle to progress. Shitheads!

Thank you for not sugar coating the beard issue as it was always presented to the males in the JW religion. It was a crappy well enforced policy among JW elders to make a rough experience for not only men wishing to study the Bible and get baptized but also for any other male capable of growing facial hair. Lett should have taken the opportunity to make the change in policy officially sanctioned by the GB. But, no. He just had to take a nasty and disrespectful, dishonest approach to announcing the change. It was a big change in WT policy.
I just watched an old video of someone's judicial hearing that they secretly recorded. The elders most definitely had a problem with beards! When confronted about other policy changes, one elder literally told the man to "get over it already!" They are such liars.
That depends on the congregation, culture and country. I know one congregation whose Ministerial Servant is growing a beard and has been seen at the stage and an elder conducting the Watchtower has also growing a beard.
There will be opposers and some will have to slowly adjust to the GB decision.

I am a baptised Jehovah’s Witness since 2018 and came into the truth 12 years ago. I am 81 years old. I’ve watched quite a few videos such as this one, but this one I felt compelled to add my view. I have to say that I could never voice my opinion to another member of this cult without being disfellowshipped. This is my fear because I have so many JW friends that I would hate to lose, and I know with certainty that that this would happen.
I agree with everything that has been said here in this particular video and also others. I am not against JWs per se, just the governing body. You quite rightly point out that there is no mention in the Bible about not being able to celebrate birthdays. Neither is it mentioned that you must not grow a beard. It makes me wonder what else they will come up with. A good example is not having to record the hours put in on ministry work. Why though does it only apply to ordinary publishers? And where in the bible does it state that you have to do a certain amount of hours anyway? The JW Broadcasting would be a credit to a Hollywood production team. The members are so slick and professional with their talks, they could easily be movie stars in their own right. David Splane is particularly cringeworthy.

By the way, Joe Rogan recently hosted a cult expert who noted that for followers the most important thing is not really what's true or what's right, but rather connection and status within the group. An example was how Heaven's Gate followers were willing to go to great lengths for this, including castrating themselves. So, it's a losing battle trying to reason with someone with this mentality.

Nice to see you back! Just a few days ago, I spotted two young witness men doing their cart thing and one of them sported a very nice dense beard. I had to park and talk to them. I asked them since Lett gave that talk, how many men in the congregation started growing beards. His answer: around 75%!!! Like little kids suddenly being told, "it's OK, you can go out and play now"... Amazing. Another great video, hope to see more! Cheeers!

The "no beard" policy was a dress code that The Watchtower imposed upon the brothers.
They simply wanted a certain look for those associated with them, just as any large corporation that deals with the public would do.
The Watchtower has to "sell" its religion to the members of the public and so the men had to groom according to the uniform standards it put in place.
Now they have relaxed their requirements.

One day soon the blood issue and the shunning will be ended as the prohibition against beards has been. Why do we know this? We know it because the Watchtower is a business. These things and some others are holding back their profit margins.
Makes sense, except their profit marging could plunge if they stop the shunning. PIMO's would be FREE to leave without losing their families. A "mass" exodus would wake up a lot of members who MUST wondery WHY so many are leaving and FIND OUT what the PIMOs have been scared to tell them. This could lead to a wide, careful examination of the doctrine of the faithful and discreet slave, which cannot stand up to the slightest scrutiny. This would release the stronghold the governing body has on the rank and file, which they cannot afford. This is why I believe they dare not move away from shunning.

It’s also interesting how actual judicial proceedings are catching Watchtower in their ongoing lies. But I’ve also noticed that these proceedings are of no interest whatsoever to the average duped JW. So Watchtower lawyers can lie and lie again unfazed because it never costs them members. Even when two Watchtower lawyers in two separate cases were fined for lying under oath about their shunning policy no JW I know would ever hear about it or much less believe it!

I too refused to hear any thing that was against my beliefs., but at the same time l had doubts about certain practices and doctrines. I faded after the child molestation trial and other things l knew that wasn't bibical. When God's showed me that l was on a sinking ship. I had to removd myself. You could be blood guilty.” Apparently it doesn’t matter if you “stumble” some one out of the congregation in 2024 by wearing a beard. Of course this was never scriptural to begin with. Winston, the real real for the beard prohibition was, as you alluded to in the beginning of your video, was political. When Rutherford forcibly took over Watchtower when Russel died, he was faced with a membership that was VERY loyal to Russel. It was not without reason that people in WT of those days were called Russelites. To break the hold that Russel had over the rank and file, he systematically planned for 10 years to break the attachment to the name Bible Students in favor of his choice, Jehovah's witnesses - HIS name for a supposedly Christian organization, even though the name he picked was from Isaiah, a pre-Christian bible book. To further the break with Russel, a man known for his long, flowing beard, he declared that beards were not allowed. For Bible reasons? No. This was a mere political move, to help cement his iron grip on the organization he seized in what amounted to a coup.
The audacity of NOW permitting beards on the grounds that the Bible doesn't forbid it is just stunning. The very verse they use to prohibit tattoos (Lev. 18:28) that they want to honor is the one that immediately preceded by the prohibition AGAINST men cutting off their beards (Lev. 18:27) - a verse they chose to IGNORE until now. That is more than being audacious; it is hypocritical.

I asked them once, if a homeless man came there and wanted to be a JW, would that man have to wear a suit and shave, etc, they said yes, so i said where will he get such clothes? Thry said we will loan or get him a suit, then i said, so where is this homeless man going to hang and Care for such clothing? I have received much conformation in watching this video. I think that wearing a beard should be a matter of choice. If God don't want a man to wear a beard he could've made us without the ability to grow facial hair, after all most women don't have facial hair.
How can Stephen Lett say the GB does not have issue with brothers having beard? That's not true at all. Hmmm...I remember my mom reminding me to shave off immediately when my beard starts showing a little bit. On one occasion, an elder even told my brother-in-law to tell me to shave my beard because it's becoming a little obvious on my face.

Notice they said: “the governing body doesn’t have an issue with brothers wearing beards” ….well it should be, Jehovah does not have a problem with brothers wearing beards. Moses was not allowed to enter the promise land because he took credit instead of giving credit to God. For a moment, Moses had placed himself in a god like position.

I was counseled on my Wife's dress and attire. Classic and modest Lady and traditional skirt and blouse. The Elders Wife's looked like Amish plain Jane no make up and my Girls very attractive. I did notice how dowdy witness women look now! In my day we wore tasteful clothes and tasteful makeup and of course skirt length was below the knee. But now it’s like they’re emulating other religions like Amish, SDA and Mormons that have strict dress codes for the women. It’s been my observation that most religions based on the Bible have two pressing agendas: the subjugation of women and discouragement of education.

Religions are constantly in the process of being modernized and applying changes to certain aspects of their religious practices.
In the example of JW, they have been through several changes, and history proves that those changes are going to continue.
I always thought that the suggested beard requirement was a little over the top.
I complied because I didn't think it was a critical issue to be debated.
The male congregants must keep in mind culture, location and country before deciding to grow a beard.
Also, the male congregants must take in consideration that having a beard comes with extra grooming practices and maintenance.
I love having a beard. I've grown and shaved my beard several times. It's hard work to keep it clean, combed and well groomed. The effort pays off in the end, in my opinion.

I agree with you in part because, we as Christians, must consider the Bible as the authority. We must stand guard at our own minds, and nobody should own your faith.
What hurts people is lack of Biblical information and naivety. Not every elder or religious leader are qualified entirely.
Not every elder has "the gift."
We don't follow men or elders. We follow Jesus and what he had taught us about God written in the Bible.
We have the control until we give to someone or something either voluntarily, by deceit or by harassment.
Elders are supposed to be leaders and not bosses. Believe me ! There are the boss kinds out there.
Jesus had taught us to be gentle as doves and cautious as serpents. There are several congregants who are wolves in sheep's skin. No one is free from eventually becoming a "Judas." He started stealing from Jesus' contributions and then later became a traitor.
There are all kinds of people in the congregations including the modern pharisees.
We have to be informed and know how to identify those individuals to protect ourselves spiritually and take care of our own faith so not to become victims.
There are many occasions that they mean no harm. They lack full knowledge and stumble just like anyone of us.
The problem with some congregants is that they give too much power to the religious leaders and surrender their ability of reason based on Biblical principles to them exclusively in order for them to make a decision about worship and certain religious requirements instead of doing their own careful research and study and with the help of the holy spirit and sometimes that may lead to frustrations and disappointments.
Holy spirit is given to all who believes and continuously ask. God will give the answer and direction. We have to be spiritually awakened to receive when it comes.
Believe me or not, eisegesis is a real thing, it is more common than most people perceive, and most people don't' understand it.
We have to stop giving some these volunteers ( not all of them ) our full trust.
People are changing and so will the religions, the political part and many other branches of this wicked system.
The JW organization has gone through many "changes" and I believe they will continue doing so.
Religions are huge and wealthy organizations that keep growing astronomically. If they don't make some changes nor adaptations, they can quickly lose support and the truth is that they can't volunteer their way into paying the utilities without monetary support.
