@@snipper1ie I got there somewhat late: Sep 1983- Aug 1984, Jul 1987- Jun 1988 and Oct 1997- Nov 1998. Good old days of military service whereby we were afforded overseas tours of duty.

@@henrygrey346 I remember many happy times playing 'murder rugby' in the surf with yourselves and you always raided the orange groves to send us back with bags or oranges. Happy times. A friend who served with me then, in later years, was working in London. He went to a rugby match where Fiji were playing. He shouted ON THE BALL FIJI BATT and all Fijians within earshot turned around and shouted ON THE BALL IRISH. We were ordered to stop saying ON THE BALL.

@@snipper1ie I remember some suggestions that the Irish were "white Fijians" and the Fijians were "black Irishmen" because of the similarities in temperament! But undoubtedly, we were always happy to mingle with you IrIsh folks because you just "clicked" with us and vice versa. Bless you folks. You're good company.

Very smart turnout in KK. Compare with Irish 114 infantry Battalion March Through Donegal. Reminded me of FCA recruit camp in the 80's. ''Keep in step. Kick your heel''.Glad they got it together in the end.

The band should be using bagpipes or uilleann pipes.
Nonetheless, brilliant from them all. You've made Ireland proud

    • @jamie8032

Bagpipes are Scottish, Uíleann pipes are more of a civilian thing unattached to the military. Most countries keep military and civilian traditions seperate. For example, It's why you don't see the German Army wearing Lederhosen

The red berets are military police, the green hats are glengarrys worn by the cavalry and the black berets are the standard berets for everyone else.

There would have been a lot of dead and wounded Irish Defence Force personnel. You cannot measure the experience and skill of the RoI's troop against the significantly more experienced British Army. In addition, the British Army would have air support - RoI does not have any offensive air assets (defence of RoI airspace is provided by the RAF through QRA assets when required).
