There was nothing tarnished about John Wayne. Times were different when he was living.

Don't judge John Wayne by today's standards. He was a hero in the America he grew up in. His history is real,
unlike the history taught in too many schools nowadays.

as a WWII veteran said to me "unless you drink from the same cup , you have no idea what it tastes like" - so no one has the right to pass a "judgement" unless they have experienced exactly the same (in this case) "life"........

as my dad always said to me, "watch what stick you use to measure others with for it will also be the stick that measures you."
also the american way is not "out dated" the love of country, the denouncement of communism is not "out dated" it's needed now more than ever because those that say the american way of life is "out dated" are the very communists we denounce. John Wayne is welcome in my household. communist opinions on what it "out dated" are irrelevant.

Also remember... Playboy magazine was a VERY liberal publication. How much of that interview was real and how much was a hatchet job???

Wayne's Genghis Khan production was downwind from a nuclear test site. The speculation was that nuclear fallout killed John Wayne and others associated with the movie production.

I was born in 1946, and I admired John Wayne. I enjoyed his movies, especially the "Shootist." RIP my hero. I was in Vietnam 1966-67, but the only star was Martha Rae, She was tough and funny and brave enough to come out to our small camp.

Very informative, his start in B movies was also contributed to his horsemanship skills.
Jumping off roofs landing in the saddle, feet in stirrups, whipping the horse with the reins, and galloping off to the rescue…

Wayne's time may be dated, but he was who he was, no less than you and me. My cousin loved him as a hero and actor, and to that he was truly great for his time. Let's not discount that.

Frank Sinatra once declared that he would not perform in a Las Vegas casino because they discriminated against Blacks and Sammy Davis Jr. The casino changed its policy. John Wayne railed against "the Blacks" and Native Americans. I enjoy watching Wayne's movies, but the MAN himself was a racist.

What can you about a pathetic individual who refused to serve his country by taking a soft deferment and later calling those who refused to go to viet nam cowards? I respect those who went to fight out of loyalty to their country and I respect those that did not for moral principals but Marrian Morrison was not principled. He saved his own ass and condemed others who did the same thing. He wasn't a man. He was the worst.....
