Hi John! Thank you so much for your review! I have had one for 6 months now, and I learned a couple things from your video! Just in case anyone is wondering, I have played with it with everything, including Phantom power turned on with a Mic and Guitar, and gone easily 4 hours without running out of battery (one downside is that there is not a battery gauge), I also have the latest generation Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th generation, and the sound quality is comparable apart from the focusrite's air feature. Truth be told, I've not used the Focusrite since getting the Joyo, seeing as it's so much more versatile. It works well with a charging brick too. It's the best interface I've used. Loopypro on the iPad for effects and recording, and stream live to the Iphone with the other USB out. It's a brilliant design that has a real edge over the others due to its functionality.
Hey 👋 Thanks for this. Yeah after reviewing it I tried to drain the battery and actually got bored! 🤣 That’s great you’ve had 4hrs with phantom power! Brilliant. Anything portable I’m doing I’m going to be throwing this in the bag as it’s just so versatile! 👌
Hi John, the doubling effekt is caused by the Latency on the path mixer --> ipad --> looper app --> ipad --> mixer. Can you measure the latency. For live performance the latency is absolutely crucial. You could measure it by recording the output and zoom in on your daw and set the yout timlineformat to milliseconds.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Oh that is absolutely spectacular! I thought because you mentioned it didn’t have preamps and that the sound quality might not be as good as a regular audio interface. But this really may be a one of its kind answer for those of us who use both our iPads and computers simultaneously in Live and production situations without plugging our iPads into the audio inputs of our regular interface.
I am learning piano and looking for a way to hook my android tablet (usb-c) up to the midi on the keyboard (yamaha p225b) so I can use an app like SimplyPiano or FlowKey for their note detection, and then hear my keyboard and the app audio through my headphones. Would this mixer let me do that? I don't have really any experience with this stuff, but I'm guessing I could hook my tablet up to the OTG port, headphones into main out, keyboard into the instrument in ports, and that should do it?
Yes. You would just need a way for the keyboard to connect, via midi / usb to the android tablet other than audio cables so that it can send the midi commands when you play the keys. 👍🏻
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Hmm. The tablet has one USB C port, and the keyboard has a USB B host port to send MIDI to the tablet. Do you think if I plug the tablet into one OTG port, and the keyboard into the other OTG port , that the tablet will then get the MIDI signal?
Cool find... Things went by a little fast. Can you clarify that it can mix 2 stereo sources such as 3.5 mm TS jacks (perhaps with adapters) to a stereo out?
Yes. It has an aux in (that you will have to control the volume at the source) and also a stereo instrument in (2x mono 6’ 35 jack cables) as well as 2 separate mono combo jacks for guitar or mic. It’s a little beast.
Very cool device, and one I‘d never heard of - thanks! I don‘t stream (yet), nor do I record, but I wonder whether this little box might also serve me and many other solo performers well as a mini sub-mixer, e.g. for extras that don‘t need total sonic fidelity, such as an active, battery-operated stompbox and hihat pedal (Meinl), a BeatBuddy, etc. That would reduce all the extras to a single output, making it easy to input everything (in a balanced way easy to readjust on the fly) into a single Aux input of whatever guitar/vocal pedal one happens to be using. Do you think it would work for that?
Yeah I’ve been thinking about this and thinking of making a separate video about doing something similar. Would be a great mini mixer. It’s so light and compact that it would be nice for that. Only thing is the ‘spider’ like look with a load of cables sprouting out of it but if you had left or right angled cables or wireless then I might not be so bad.
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Good point about the „spider cabling“ (which you had also kindly mentioned in your video). But I use right-angle EBS patch cables, anyhow, and frankly the look of the thing wouldn‘t bother anybody, since it would sit on the floor off to the side of my pedalboard plus stompbox/rhythm devices. Currently I‘m using a passive mixer that doesn‘t color or degrade the sound of those devices at all: Rolls MX 41 b. Thomann here in Germany recommended it to me at the time, also based on their using it in their studios for demoing various speakers. If the Joyo doesn‘t degrade my sound (or hiss) too much, it would be great to have it as an active mixer, instead, giving low-output sources a bit of a boost. I wish some cool TH-camr out there would do a comparison of passive and battery-powered active mini mixers for such a purpose, with a side-by-side „hiss test“ using decent, hi-fidelity speakers (such as the Everse 8). That would be valuable (hint hint). ;-)
Can it pass usb midi from one device to another? If for example I plug drum machine into usb port with both usb-midi-audio will it exchange that data with iPad via this mixer? (any Roland aria compact, elektron devices…)

Hi John! Great content! I was wondering if this device could be used as a pseudo vocal reverb box for playing live gigs/open mics? Basically just running a dynamic mic into the Joyo with the reverb on and then going through to the PA/Speakers via one of the 6.35mm main outputs - thus giving reverb effect to my live vocals. Would that be possible?
great video and overview. I am sold and was not even looking for another device. kinda like the old iconnect devives with multiple ios connections. really cool
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I posted your video on the facebook group for ipad musicians and there are quite a few questions about the device. Not like you need to answer them but I will post the link here, if youtube will allow.
Hello John! thank you for your awesome content about looping. I am looking for a simple and portable device that I can use for mixing the whole band. The question is: do I understand right that for loopy pro it only shows left and right inputs? And all the hardware inputs send to them? For example, I need an input for my mic for recording a flute or percussion. At the same time 2 more musicians: a mic for vocal and one more input for guitar. What device can provide this like functionality?
Hi John! Let me ask you something. Lately I have gotten into software amps and Im pushing latency. I stick to AUM and LP as I can set buffer lower than Cubasis, it really helps. There is two things I was wondering about. Maybe I can skim down 1 more ms by plugging straight into usb-c on an iPad, forgoing a camera connection kit or adapter. I would have to run the iPad of the battery but Im willing to try it out. Would it eat into my latency if I livestream while using amp sims? I want to showcase jams.. I was thinking as the audio is sent out on a seperate usb channel i wouldent have hear that, it would only be heard on the stream. Is that right? Would it perhaps influence performance anyway? Thanks for your thoughts. Bonus question! Can I run the Usb out straight to another ipad/phone that can combine the audio while filming?
Hi JP and thanks for this review. During the video you indicated we were seeing and hearing the video via OTG2. What device were you using? An iPhone, Mac, something else?

In terms of Audio capture and quality, the Focusrite has 120dB of dynamic range and can record 24bit/192khz - therefore has the edge when it comes to recording. Think of the Momix Pro as a portable mini mixer more than an audio interface. If you’re all about recording then it’s the Focusrite.

I recently found the Gigmix 4 and bought it. It arrives today. Could I have bought this instead, and would it replace my Allen & Heath as adequately as the Gigmix? Or am I better off using the Elite Acoustic Gigmix for live performances? I know the Gigmix has built in effects and sweepable mids. It runs around $150-$200 and is all digital. Can the Momix compete? I was considering giving it a try. Thanks!
I use a Taylor T5 and it has two outputs. One for my LR Baggs Anthem, and the other for the T5 onboard preamp. I’d need to mix both channels completely separately and have a mic input. I’d only be using 3 channels, but I thought that information might be helpful.
