    Floor and you are excellent with this. I've watched all of her masterclasses. I have a voice, but i haven't had the teacher. If i had a teacher like Floor, i could be a universal star by now (high hopes 😔). It's too late for me, but her classes are a real joy to watch. She's so humble and educational. I had a couple of lessons with Beth from the Beth Roars channel. I am not a singer at all and don't intend to be, I just enjoy it and would like to be better! She spotted me rolling up my tongue inside my mouth, so she made me sing vocal warmups with my tongue hanging out. It was really funny and I had so much difficulty doing it without laughing at myself. 🤣
    I swear, next time (it'll be a while, not going to waste money before I'm definitely putting the practice in) I will make sure to have a flannel (washcloth) next to me in case she makes me do it again.

    As an instructor in a different field, I cannot but echo what has been said here. To be sefl-taught without a means of analysis and reflection, is the way to build your skills on a foundation of errors.
    When you finally give up and seek the help of an instructor, we spend a large amount of our time simply undoing your bad technique. It is far easier to learn correct technique right at the start, than to undo years of bad technique.

    Didn’t think about how much is actually involved with singing as I’m not a singer...but watching your channel and listening to her discussions about it really has made me realize how much muscle memory and breathing and focus on placement of sound and resonance makes things sound the way it does (either good or bad). Great singers are definitely athletes in this regard and almost all great athletes have a coach that helps mold /improve /refocus their technique. Hell, even as a HS athlete 20 years ago I used video and certain biometrics to aid in performance improvement. Great video and I would pay a lot of money for Floor to just say...”Yeah you should stick to heart caths because your singing is terrible” -she’s so nice it seems though it would be a lot less mean than that. 😂. Keep up the great work..wish I had the time to catch more of your live streams.

      He absolutely should! Thanks for bringing that up. :)) I have also suggested to Charlie to consider listening to the "Ann" trilogy in its entirety and give his impressions. A big undertaking, but would be one of the best reaction / analysis videos ever, just to see how songwriting and performance take subtle changes for each story of the trilogy, and still coalesce into a breathtaking whole! And Dianne just totally inhabiting her roles with passion will fittingly prove that last step to "God level". :))
      For a "quick shot" of Dianne's greatness, some of her recordings with XANDRIA can also make a welcome discovery.

    I have seen plenty of ultra popular singers that stopped working with a coach and that have developed really bad habits with breathing or way over the top singing. To me you need an external objective listener to tell it to you straight, other your entourage full of yes men will steer you wrong.

    • @andrewkarp5067
      @andrewkarp5067 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to add to a very good point... many skilled singers who are pro or semi-pro level often forget about how much your speaking techniques and environment can affect your singing. For many rock vocalists, imagine that you are playing a loud, packed club, and you’re just talking with fans, bandmates or local press. The room is loud as hell and in order to be heard, you have to speak much, much louder. Next thing you know, you’re coughing and sputtering and can barely get a sentence out. Your singing voice is toast for the evening... Looks like you’re gonna have to work on how you speak, so this doesn’t keep happening or damage your voice badly, atrophy your vocal cords, etc, etc...

    • @shuriken4852
      @shuriken4852 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewkarp5067 Good point, but I was more meaning that you start to get bad habits on stage and since there is no one to call you on it, they can become problematic. Good examples of it for me are Tori Amos which I use to find astonishing on stage with just her piano and later on she was doing way too much with her breath and dynamics to the point I found it annoying or Christina Aguilera which is technically one of the best singers on the planet, but she just went crazy with her runs and vocal acrobatics to the point that she became a meme.

    • @andrewkarp5067
      @andrewkarp5067 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s all very fair indeed. You could easily be 100% accurate.🤷🏼‍♂️ I think Christina’s main issues were that she routinely toured heavily after the Strip record, did boatloads of speaking or on camera interviews now that she was an established superstar, and didn’t live the healthiest of lifestyles for a singer (alcohol, etc). As far as Tori goes, I couldn’t tell you what her vocal issues were rooted in. I saw her many times between 1992 the end of the ‘90s and even even took her to lunch somewhere in there (I was a long time A&R guy at Atlantic, her label), and she was about as chill as you can imagine. I have no clue who her voice teacher may have been as she was already married and living in the UK by the middle of the decade. Christina was, I believe, a Seth Riggs student (could be wrong on that)... but who knows if they had any accompaniment on tour.
