    Oh my God! I have never seen anybody cut through the crap as fast you just did here. I watched it because of the 120T review, but kudos! The way you present should give anyone who is not seeing the wood for the trees (but has a brain, unlike most the folks commenting below) a key to the door of understanding how to light. Love the 640 iso at 6 feet, now I know what that light does. Thanks!

    Jay P., at 7:18 you say is that it has a battery that comes with it. I think you meant to say that it has a battery mount with it. There is no battery that ships with the 120T.

    Good video Slanted Lens but let's make it clear to your viewers, you're not advocating for hot, tungsten bulb lights vs LEDs. I have come to really hate our hot bulb light fixtures. We MUST have AC power to use them. They are VERY HOT and I and others have burned our fingers on several occasions and because they are so hot, we cannot pack up the kits for quite awhile until the fixtures cool. The bulbs are fragile. They can't be dimmed without changing the color temp. You have to use something like a softbox on them because if you use frost or something like that, it melts if it comes in contact with any part of the fixture. LEDs are great! None of those problems and they run on battery!!! Color cast is getting better and better all the time on LED fixtures. Heck, they have them now where you can push a button and match your LED fixture exactly to whatever color temp the lighting is in a room, even other video production lights. And for the person who thought $600 was a lot of money, there is a well known company that begins with A and ends in i, that is still selling a four light hot bulb tungsten kit for $3,800. That averages out to $950 per light and...see problems mentioned above with bulb fixtures.

    New LEDs that have come out in the past year are now fully capable of handling 3200k and 5600k some even have adjustments for all colour temps in between giving that natural tungsten light look as well as daylight and more. The new generation of LEDs are really respectable now so this should be updated.

    What's the difference between using gels with tungsten LED and daylight LED to get different colour temperatures? Advantages / Disadvantages? Will I be better off getting one over the other? Thanks

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no difference as to how you use them. It is just that your color temperature starts out at a different place. Tungsten starts at 3200 and daylight starts at 5800. Most people want to get daylight balanced lights because we are more likely to be matching our light to daylight than we are to tungsten.

    I'm a big fan of tungsten but I ended up getting a Godox ML60 because it's such a great portable light (it is my first light). Is there any solution to make a daylight light warmer? - are gels a good idea? can they be used together with a soft box, or is that a bad idea?

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gels are a great idea. A full CTO on your Godox light will give you a tungsten color balance and work with your softbox if you make sure no light escapes the gel. If the gel does not cover the light completely your color balance will not be consistently tungsten.

    How does this compare with the cheaper and very similar PixaPro LED mkii+?

      @TheSlantedLens  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't used it, so I'm not sure. But I'm always wary of products that are much cheaper but very similar. They are usually able to cut costs by using inferior products that don't last and don't produce quality results.

    Why can't we use Daylight balanced lights and use gels ? i feel that daylight balanced has a lot more power, but putting on gels will slightly reduced light power. I really want to use this light but don't really know which one to get ! since i wan't to make to most use of this light on set i feel daylight will be the way to go ! but one still needs 1/2, 1/4, full cto gels to balance CT each time for a shot right? Thanks ! +The Slanted Lens

    • @davepov
      @davepov 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nicholas, I'm with you. I like daylight lights because I run into offices and even homes with tons of daylight streaming in. I can't fight that. I can't blackout all the windows. I can turn off practicals. So, that's what I do and leave the window lighting coming in then light accordingly with my daylight balanced lights using the windows as the motivator for where the light would be coming from. I have used gels. They don't always work as well with LED fixtures as they did with tungsten bulbs but I have a tons of gels to choose from in many different strengths so we've never had a problem.

    • @srroberts07

      Wilson Newman, hes metering 1/48th or if you don't have that 1/50th which would be the set shutter speed for 24p.

    I'm so lost about using continious lighting on photography, i saw tungsten or hmi lighting on great, expensive photography works, people who are great photographers. i have some inferences but not sure still.

    • @wiliamprimrose5545
      @wiliamprimrose5545 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't' use hmis ever. the reason is, the ultra violet rays are dangerous if the light is defective. there are actors who refuse to work with hmis. basically it burns the retinas causing blindness, which may take months to heal, and can burns the skin.

    Four reasons we need a Tungsten Incandescent Light, OK so let us _buy_ your reasoning ...
    Duh, and so what are you selling. Your selling an LED Light that is not color temperature variable and is 100K off from Tungsten Incandescent and 200K away from Tungsten Halogen. Not that an LED would have the same bandwidth and distribution but the ability to vary slightly would indeed allow a closer match.
    Or, you could just sell us a regular (200W) Light Bulb (with a regular Dimmer), like *you* recommended.
