Oh I'm laughing so hard rewatching the Shadow Yukiko fight (I'm actually also tearing up). I remember how intense it was when you were doing it and how so into it you were. That was a crap ton of luck! So glad you included your reaction in the final video!
28:43 It is actually fair that Mituo's hero form gets two attack per turn; Your part still has the advantage as your party normally gets four. By action economy standards you still have the advantage simply because you party can do more things in a turn.
Having done a run where I don't use direct commands, I could never imagine setting them to act freely. IMO act freely is the worst of the commands. Ranges for the AI healing felt much more consistent on Full Assault and Heal/Support then on Act Freely. Act Freely just felt like the AI was throwing darts. IMO the most hype part of my run was Kanji dodging two Nihil Hands in a row. He's a real trooper.
You must really love a game to do challenges like this. Or be some kind of masochist hahaha. Either way, mad respect, the video was genuinely funny, hope you channel grows more and more.
I think the reason changing tactics "did nothing" was entirely because it was early game. At that point, the party's spells and physical skills essentially do the same amount of damage, so they can't really priortize anything. As for why the other tactics didn't work, I'd guess that numbers are so low across the board (hp, defense, heals, damage, etc) that the ai got confused about where the danger zone was, or had an extremely specific range. Losing 50% health early game vs late game is a world of difference. But yeah, the reason Yukiko will regular attack, party members will refuse to heal, and Yosuke will go for Makajam is entirely because "Act Freely" essentially tells the AI "click whatever buttons you want, just vaguely try to win" whereas other tactics would let them prioritize their most damaging moves and whatnot
so watching the video i was surprised to see teddie not immediately in the main party. the dude is a 2nd healer in a run where the only way to heal or res is if its in the skillset. energy shower aside.
MINOR SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE PLOT. I have a challenge run idea if you're interested: it's basically a supporting protagonist run with an addition. You have to play with specific party members, as in randomly chosen (like on a wheel). The three members you get on the wheel will be your party for the whole game. Because of the fact you get party members slowly over persona games, I have two comprise ideas; one, just in case you have to spin the wheel again to have a bonus member (especially) in the event your chosen members just happen to be late-game members (also in the case of P3 and P5, where because of the plot some members may become unavailable (eg Junpei getting kidnaped and Morgana temporary leaving). there's also that case in 3 where Yukari joins regardless in a certain boss fight. My second comprise, you start the challenge regarding the party after the first dungeon when you have at least 4 available options of party members. Now about the supporting protagonist, basically the protagonist is only allowed to de/buff, heal, ailment... items included. But no attacking. (admittingly this is an issue in scripted solo battles, eg Joker in Sae and Shido's palace. But I am aware of Tetrakarn and magic mirrors. Also, I will allow an item attack if that doesn't work. NB. this is in regard to the protag. not the members, they can do anything) Admittingly I just realized this is a lot to take. I just want to share my idea with someone, and I haven't seen a support run to a persona game as yet. Since this is a lot if you're interested in the idea you can edit what you want from it. But NO ACT FREELY. I didn't have a specific game in mind so you're free to choose there. That's all. Please rest I know this run must have been torture. And I'm 7 days late. Peace.
P3 is manageable with a support MC - you basically reroll until you can have Mitsuru and Aki in the party P4G...same deal, just hope you get Kanji, ans Izanagi has a good enough support kit that Teddie is not required, and neither is Yukiko P5R...Same deal as with 4G
bro this is basically Nitsuagamers "P5r doing nothing" just WAY WORSE god damn bro idk how you persona tubers put yourself through this but hella props
Way Worse? Heck no! I'm envious Marcos here can do social links, use items outside of battle, change equipment/personas, use the Velvet Room, and do movie theater trips. The point of the P5R Doing Nothing Run is to have no control over anything. Marco's run here, he can do anything as long as it's outside of battle. MagicMarcos has it far easier. This is less insane and sanity draining. The Doing Nothing Run was literal torture that still gives me PTSD just by running down the hallways I grinded in.
Did they “nerf” tactics from P3? I mean, P4 is on the same engine and even uses same assets as P3. And in P3 tactics DID matter, they changed the behaviour of AI significantly. Don’t tell me they decided not just copy paste it, but just make new worse version of tactics? Maybe you didn’t understand the tactics mechanic? Sorry, it is just hard to believe that they could just copy paste already good tactics from P3 and decided not to do it and instead make in worse.
Teddie is the best healer in the game though? Why didn't you think to use him lol. Also getting rid of Amrita was a massive misplay, it doesn't require RNG unlike the partner status heal. Also, I think their AI is dependent on their SP percentage as well. Maybe Full Assault removes their SP thresholds that would exist on Conserve SP and maybe act freely even if they don't use items on any mode. It also looks like the AI chooses one teammate as the dedicated healer each turn.
When I first got him, Yukiko was a more better healer because at the time because of the divine grace ability, but that didn’t matter anymore once I got mediarahan for both healers.
Sooooo. this is just a suspicion from watching all the mitsuo footage. but could it be that, if the ai has a heal skill, they dont use their sp once they hit half? im unsure if its healing dependant but it feels like that.
so there are some small differences between the AI settings. i've beaten the game without direct commands before. heal/support makes the healing threshold more generous and they'll use status healing skills like amrita or energy shower sooner. they pretty much never use buffs/debuffs from what i can tell. on full assault, the AI seems to favor physical skills for some reason. the name of the tactic is also a lie because sometimes they'll still decide to heal anyway when someone is in critical health. conserve sp basically just makes it so that they stop using their sp once they're around half or less. before that point though, they'll use it about the same as any other tactic. tl;dr - chad p3 AI > virgn p4 AI
