Hello. Thanks for your question. Under normal circumstances, the ZIGZAG is not intended to be used on a single strand of rope (SRT), that is why the field of application is "Doubled rope progression device for tree care" in the Technical Notice.
Under specific circumstances (rescue), the ZIGZAG can be used on a single strand of rope, following specific precautions, mentioned in the Product Experience.
These specific situations are :
- securing the ASCENTREE with the ZIGZAG : www.petzl.com/en/Professional/Securing-the-ASCENTREE-with-the-ZIGZAG---single-rope-work-and-access-technique?ProductName=ZIGZAG&Familly=Descenders&l=US#.VPcJn3yG90o,
- using the ZIGZAG with added friction as a second belay point on the trunk : www.petzl.com/en/Professional/Second-belay-point-on-the-trunk--without-false-crotch--evacuation-system-with-the-ZIGZAG-in-single-mode-with-added-friction?ProductName=ZIGZAG&Familly=Descenders&l=US#.VPcKLXyG90o.
In the first situation, the ZIGZAG can be temporarily used on a single strand of rope, only to reengage a cam on the ASCENTREE in the eventuality where both cams would have been accidentally opened.
In the second situation, the ZIGZAG is shown with a Munter hitch as an evacuation system, requiring a two hands operation.

This video makes the job look amazing and easy. Of course it it when you have huge cranes with anchors in to make the climbers look like it’s effortless. Rubbish self promoting. I use the zig zag and yes it’s a cool tool but petzl should be fined for false advertising
